Please include course code and title for each reading list you wish to be able to edit. 2. Go to Aspire at http://liblists.sussex.ac.uk/index.html and sign in using your ITS login and password. If this doesn t work first time, repeat the sign-in process. 3. Next, you need to install the Add to My Bookmarks link. This will enable you to add books and other resources you choose, into your reading list. You only have to do this installation process once on each computer you use. 4. Click on My Bookmarks 5. Click the Bookmarklet Installation button and follow the onscreen instructions. 6. An Add to My Bookmarks button will then appear in your browser window. Page 1 of 6

Editing your list 1. Click My Lists and then click on the title of your list. 2. Click select action and choose the Edit option from the drop-down menu. 3. You can add new sections to your list. Click on New Section, hold down the left mouse button and drag the new section over to your list. You can choose where you drop the new section just let go of your mouse button. 4. If you need to reorder your sections, click the Table of contents show/hide button. You can then drag and drop the sections. Remember to save your changes by clicking Save Draft Page 2 of 6

Adding books to your list 1. Open a new tab in your browser window and navigate to the Library catalogue. 2. Search for your book then click on the title to display the full record. 3. Click the Add to My Bookmarks link. 4. The book details will be harvested. Click the Create button in the bottom left corner. This will add the book to your list of bookmarks. 5. Click the tab in your browser to return to your reading list. Page 3 of 6

6. Click the refresh button in your browser window (or F5 on your keyboard). Your book will then appear in your list of bookmarks. 7. Drag and drop the book into the appropriate section of your list Alerting the Library 1. To let the Library know how many copies to buy, click Set Importance for each book you add to the list. 2. Select one of the options from the drop-down menu: Student purchase, Essential, Recommended or Optional. 3. If you need to add a note for your students such as read chapter four, click the Edit notes and importance button. This edit box also gives you the option to leave a note for the Library. If it is only a single chapter that is required, we may be able to get a digitised copy and make it available that way instead of buying multiple copies of the actual book. Adding a journal article to your list You can also add links to your reading list to the full text of journal articles. 1. Keep your reading list open in Edit mode. 2. Open another tab in your browser window and navigate to the Electronic Library. 3. Select the link for Online Journals. 4. Search for the journal using a title search, then click on the SFX icon to the right of the title. Page 4 of 6

5. Browse through the journal to find the year, volume and issue required. 6. Locate the actual article and click on title of the article or a link that will provide you with the full details of the article (exact wording will vary between journals). At this point, you are looking for a page that shows summary information about the individual article, but not usually the full pdf article. 7. Click on Add to My Bookmarks. Check that the full bibliographic details are displayed. This works best when a DOI has been used in harvesting the article details. If fields are missing and a DOI (digital object identifier) is available, you can copy and paste the DOI into the DOI Look Up field. With JSTOR articles, the full details are not harvested, so you will need to add the author and article title manually. 8. Click on the Create button in the bottom left corner of the window. 9. Return to your reading list 10. Click the refresh button in your browser window (or F5 on your keyboard). The journal article will then appear in your list of bookmarks. 11. Drag and drop the article from your list of bookmarks to your reading list. Adding other resources to your reading list Web pages and YouTube videos can be bookmarked in the same way as books and journals. Find the webpage or video you want to bookmark and click on Add to My Bookmarks. Add new fields to capture additional metadata and then click on Create. For a book that is not yet held in the Page 5 of 6

Library, find the item on Amazon and bookmark as above. If you cannot find online details for the item, you can use the Add Resource form. 1. Go to My Bookmarks and click on Add Resource. 2. Select the required fields from the Add field drop-down list. Ideally, include author, title, publisher, year of publication and ISBN (if the item is a book). 3. When you have added as much information as you can, click on Create. Publishing your list and sending it to the Library When you have finished editing your list, click the Publish button. Next, you need to send it to the Library so that new items can be purchased. You do this by clicking the Request Review button. Page 6 of 6
