From Mac OS X If your Macintosh is running with Mac OS X, the process you have to follow to connect to a Caldera workstation is different from the previous one. Retrieving the needed files Via the integrated web server You can get the needed printer drivers from the webpage running on the Caldera workstation. 1. Open a web browser (usually Internet Explorer or Safari). 2. In the Address field, enter the name or the IP address of the Caldera workstation (for instance, http://192.168.1.10 if the IP address of the workstation is 192.168.1.10). 1

3. On the page that opens, click the Mac and Windows PPD/PostScript Drivers Download. 4. On the next page, click Download PPD's. 5. Choose the needed driver, and click its name. It will be downloaded and placed on your desktop. Via the shared folders The Caldera workstation shares a Tools directory. 1. In the Finder menu, open the Go submenu and choose Connect to Server... 2. In the Address field, type the name or the IP address of the Caldera workstation, and click the Connect button. 2

3. Select Registered User and enter caldera in the Name field. The caldera user does not need any password. Click Connect. 4. Select the Tools volume and click OK. 5. The connected volume will appear on the desktop. 3

On a Caldera server, you can connect to the following volumes: Tools: Several tools are found in this directory, such as PostScript drivers, their matching.ppd files, save tools, shortcuts meant to purge the temporary directories, and patching tools. Public: This directory is used to store and transfer images from your Macintosh to the Caldera workstation. Save: This directory contains the saves of your Caldera system (operating system not included). To save your installation and software configuration, please see the corresponding chapter. Installing and configuring a LPR (Line Printer) printing queue Configuring remote printers 1. Open the Applications folder. This can be done by double-clicking the Applications icon on your desktop. If this icon is missing, open a Finder window by clicking the Finder icon in the dock, then click the Applications button in the buttons bar. 2. Select the Utilities directory. 4

3. Double-click the Print Center icon. 4. In the Printer List window, select Add. You will then be able to configure the LPR allowing you to create a PostScript printing file, and to retrieve it on your workstation. 5

5. Configure the LPR printing line. First select: The printing line: IP Printing. The IP address of the Caldera server: Printer's Address. Uncheck Use default queue on server box. Then, in the Queue Name field, enter the name of the printer as it is declared on the Caldera server (usually, this name is caldera ). The model of the printer (.PPD): CalderaMac.PPD. 6

NOTE: If your printer is a specific model, please select the *.PPD file that you have downloaded earlier on. (Please see the Selecting a different.ppd file part.). Once again, please note that the aim here is to connect to the Caldera server, which will act like a virtual printer. Then click the Add button; the newly added printer will show up in the printers list. Selecting a different.ppd file 1. In the Add Printer window, select Other... in the Printer model section. 2. Select the.ppd file corresponding to the printer. If you have downloaded this file from the web page, it is located on your desktop (select Desktop in the From selection list). 7

If you have connected to the Tools folder on a Caldera server, type /Tools/psdrivers in the Go To field and click the Choose button. Then select the file you need in the MAC or PPD folders. 3. Once the appropriate.ppd file is selected, click on Go. From a Windows client Downloading the files To acquire the Caldera printer driver for a remote Windows client, download the Caldera printer driver from the integrated web server: 1. Open a web browser. 8

2. Type the Caldera server's IP address in the browser's address field, for example: http://192.168.1.10. 3. Click Mac & Windows PPD/PostScript Drivers Download. 4. Select an Adobe PS driver, and save the file to your hard drive. 5. Right-click the PPD file you need, and save the file to your hard drive. NOTE: Internet Explorer might display the content of the PPD instead of downloading it. Click the link with the right mouse button, and select Save as in the menu. Internet Explorer will add the.txt extension to the PPD. Change.txt to.ppd. Configuring for remote printing To create a connection via TCP/IP between the Caldera server and a Windows client, first try launching the PostScript executable program you have downloaded in the previous step (.exe file). If you are unable to view your Caldera server on the network, you will need to use an alternate method. This method is described immediately after the typical installation. NOTE: The Caldera server is the one we have given as an example (caldera). 1. Launch the installation executable PS driver. 2. Click Next and then Accept to agree to the license agreement. 3. The system will display the following message: "How is your printer connected to your computer?" 9

Select Network printer and click Next. 4. In the Network Path window, there are two ways to select the printer: a. Type in the network path for your printer using the following format: \\COMPUTER\peripheral. For example: \\CALDERA\caldera. b. The other method, which you can use if for instance you do not know the path to your printer, is to click Browse, go to your Caldera server and double-click the printer file. 10

5. The following window will then open: Click Browse, and go to the location where you saved the PPD. 6. Select Caldera Printer. 11

7. Select whether you want to make this printer your default one, then click Next > Install. 8. At this moment, you can either select Yes to configure your printer or No to continue. 9. Click Next > Finish. 12
