1 Fiery Installation Instructions for the WorkCentre 7300 Series This document describes how to install and set up the Fiery Network Controller for WorkCentre 7300 Series. IMPORTANT: The complete installation will take approximately 1 hour. Carefully review all the overview steps below before starting the installation. If you do not follow the overview steps exactly as directed, the installation will fail. Overview Step 1: Complete the Installer Steps on page 2. Then proceed to Overview Step 2. Do not continue with the installation until you have carefully reviewed the guidelines in Overview Step 2. Overview Step 2: Determine your installation workflow based on your system and network configuration. Use the following guidelines: DHCP network environment For either a full system installation (WorkCentre 7300 Series and Fiery Controller) or a Fiery Controller installation (WorkCentre 7300 Series previously installed), complete the steps in section C, starting on page 5. Static network environment Complete the appropriate sections according to the following table. IMPORTANT: If you do not complete the exact sections listed in the table, the installation will fail. Monitor, keyboard, and mouse are not available Monitor, keyboard, and mouse are available for the installation only Full system installation (WorkCentre 7300 Series and Fiery Controller) Complete sections A, B, C, and D in order, starting on page 3. Complete sections C and E in order, starting on page 5. Fiery Controller installation (WorkCentre 7300 Series previously installed) Complete sections B, C, and D in order, starting on page 4. 2 Installer Steps Unpack the Fiery Controller shipping box. Place the Fiery Controller in the stand. Check the switches on the back of the Fiery Controller: Set the power switch to Off (O). Set the service switches to normal position (away from ON). 2

3 A. Copier Preparation for Static Networks Only A1. Connect the copier to the static network. If the copier is already connected to the network, proceed to step A2. A2. Configure a temporary IP address for the copier. Press the Log In/Out button on the copier control panel. Enter the System Administrator password to log in to the copier. (The default password is ) Touch Enter. Press the Machine Status button. Touch the Tools tab. Then touch System Settings > Connectivity & Network Setup > Protocol Settings. Set TCP/IP - IP Mode to IPv4 Mode. Set IPv4 - IP Address Resolution to STATIC. Set IPv4 - IP Address to the value supplied by the System Administrator. Set IPv4 - Subnet Mask to the value supplied by the System Administrator. Set IPv4 - Gateway Address to the value supplied by the System Administrator Touch Close to exit Protocol Settings, and press the Log In/Out button to exit the Tools tab. When prompted, reboot the copier. 3

4 B. Printer Setup Icon Configuration for Static Networks Only B1. Enable the Printer Setup icon on the copier control panel. IMPORTANT: Be sure to complete the tasks outlined in this step. This step enables the Printer Setup icon, which will be used later in section D to configure the IP address of the Fiery Controller. If you fail to complete this step, you will need to repeat the entire installation procedure (sections A through D). Open a Web browser on a client PC. Type the copier IP address into the address field of the browser and press Enter to display the copier Internet Services page. Click the Properties tab. Click Security > Machine Digital Certificate Management. If prompted, enter the System Administrator user name and password. (The default user name is ; the default password is x-admin.) Click Create New Self Signed Certificate. On the Properties tab, click Security > SSL / TLS Settings. For HTTP - SSL / TLS Communication, check Enabled. If prompted, reboot the copier. After the copier reboots, browse to the copier Internet Services page again. Click the Properties tab. Click Connectivity > Port Settings. (When prompted, enter the System Administrator user name and password; the default user name is and the default password is x-admin ). For SNMP, check Enabled. For SMB, check Enabled. For FTP Client, check Enabled. For SOAP, check Enabled. If prompted, reboot the copier. After the copier reboots, browse to the copier Internet Services page again. Click the Properties tab. Click Services > Custom Services > Custom Services. Select Enabled. NOTE: The Printer Setup icon will not appear on the copier control panel until after the Fiery Controller has been connected and rebooted (after step C7). 4

5 C. Setup for DHCP and Static Networks C1. Configure the copier for DHCP communication with the Fiery Controller. Press the Log In/Out button on the copier control panel. Enter the System Administrator password to log in to the copier. (The default password is ) Touch Enter. Press the Machine Status button. Touch the Tools tab. Then touch System Settings > Connectivity & Network Setup > Protocol Settings. Set TCP/IP - IP Mode to IPv4 Mode. Set IPv4 - IP Address Resolution to DHCP. Touch Close to exit Protocol Settings, and press the Log In/Out button to exit the Tools tab. When prompted, reboot the copier. C2. Power off the copier. If necessary, disconnect the copier from the network. 5

6 C3. Connect the Fiery Controller to a power outlet, the copier, and the network as shown. For the copier connection, use the crossover Ethernet cable provided with the Fiery Controller. For the network connection, use a straight-through Ethernet cable. C4. Power on the Fiery Controller. C5. Check for the solid green light on the back of the Fiery Controller and wait for the LEDs to display 00. It takes approximately 5 minutes for the Fiery Controller to start up and display 00. 6

7 C6. Power on the copier and wait for the Start page to print. IMPORTANT: Do not power on the copier until 00 is displayed on the Fiery Controller LEDs. After powering on, do not touch the copier until the Start page prints. The wait time will be between 5 and 15 minutes, depending on the version of copier software. During this time, the following occurs: DO NOT TOUCH THE COPIER UNTIL THE START PAGE PRINTS! The Fiery Controller automatically configures the copier IP address to If necessary, the Fiery Controller installs software on the copier (indicated by the Downloading display on the copier control panel). NOTE: It may take 2 to 3 minutes for the installation to begin. After the installation is finished, allow the copier to reboot automatically. Note the following on the Start page: DHCP networks the Fiery Controller IP address listed on the page is valid. Static networks the Fiery Controller IP address listed on the page is not valid and should be ignored. 7

8 C7. Reboot the Fiery Controller and wait for the LEDs to display :00:05 Press and hold down the soft power button for 5 seconds until the green light goes out. Wait 10 seconds. Press the soft power button once to power on the Fiery Controller. 00:00:10 Wait approximately 5 minutes for the LEDs to display 00. Do not touch the copier until the Start page prints. DHCP networks only: The installation is now complete. If desired, enable the Printer Setup icon to access Fiery Controller functions from the copier control panel (for detailed instructions, see EIP settings in Configuration and Setup on the User Documentation CD). Static networks only: Proceed to section D or E. 8

9 D. IP Configuration for Static Networks Only (Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse Not Available) D1. Configure the IP address of the Fiery Controller using the Printer Setup icon. Press the Clear All button on the copier control panel. Press the Services button on the copier control panel. Touch the Printer Setup icon. If the icon does not appear, see the Note at the end of this section. Touch the password field, enter the Administrator password for the Fiery Controller. (The default case-sensitive password is Fiery.1.) Then touch Save, and touch Login. At the main screen, touch IPv4 Setup. Set IPv4 Address Type to Manual and enter the desired IP Address for the Fiery Controller. Touch Save Changes. Configure any other network settings as desired. At the main screen, touch Restart Server > Reboot System > Reboot System. Allow the Fiery Controller to reboot and print a new Start page. NOTE: If the Printer Setup icon fails to appear, do the following: Press the Machine Status button on the copier control panel and make sure that the copier IP address is set to If the address is not correct, check and reseat the cable between the Fiery Controller and the copier. Press the Clear All button on the copier control panel. Reboot the Fiery Controller and wait for the LEDs to reach 00 (see step C7 on page 8 for instructions). When the Fiery Controller reaches 00, press Clear All again. If the Printer Setup icon still fails to appear, repeat the entire installation procedure starting from step A1 on page 3. 9

10 E. IP Configuration for Static Networks Only (Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse Are Available) E1. Configure the IP address of the Fiery Controller using an available monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Connect the monitor, keyboard, and mouse to the Fiery Controller. When the Log On to Windows prompt appears on the monitor, enter Administrator for the user name and Fiery.1 for the password. Then press Enter. Wait approximately 1 minute for the blue FieryBar to appear at the top of the monitor and display Idle mode. If Command WorkStation launches the Available Servers screen, click the X at the top righthand corner of the screen to close it. Then click the X to close the Login Server screen. Right-click the FieryBar at the top of the monitor and select WebTools from the menu that appears. Click the Configure tab. Then click Launch Configure. If a security warning appears asking if you want to run the application, click Run. At the Login prompt, select Administrator for the user name and enter Fiery.1 for the password. Then press Enter. Click Network > Protocol > TCP/IP > DNS in the lefthand pane of the browser window. Uncheck Get DNS Address Automatically. For Primary DNS Server IP Address, Secondary DNS Server IP Address, and Domain Name, enter the values provided by the System Administrator. Click WINS Server in the lefthand pane of the browser window. If you want to use a WINS Server, make sure Use WINS Server is checked. Then select the IP address option and enter the address of the WINS Server provided by the System Administrator. If you do not want to use a WINS Server, uncheck Use WINS Server. (Instructions continue on the next page.) 10

11 E1. (continued from the previous page) Click Ethernet in the lefthand pane of the browser window. Under Select Gateway Address, select Manually. Then enter the Gateway IP address provided by the System Administrator. Under Select IPv4 Address, select Manually. Then enter the IP address and subnet mask provided by the System Administrator for the Fiery Controller. Click Reboot in the lefthand pane of the browser window. At the reboot message, click Yes. Allow the Fiery Controller to reboot without interruption. Wait approximately 5 minutes for the Start page to print. Disconnect the monitor, keyboard, and mouse from the Fiery Controller. If desired, enable the Printer Setup icon to access Fiery Controller functions from the copier control panel (for detailed instructions, see EIP settings in Configuration and Setup on the User Documentation CD). Printer Driver Installation Printing using TCP/IP: Installing Windows 2000, Windows XP, Server 2003, and Vista Download the printer drivers to your computer from the User Software DVD or WebTools. Go to Printer and Faxes/Printers, and select Add Printer. Click Next in the Add Printer Wizard window. Select Local Printer, clear the selection for automatically finding Plug and Play printers, and click Next. Select Create a New Port, choose Standard TCP/IP port, and click Next. Click Next again. Enter the IP address or Server Name for the Fiery Controller and click Next. Click Finish. Click Have Disk in the window displaying manufacturers and printers. Browse to the printer drivers you downloaded, locate Oemsetup.info or Oemsetup, and click Open. Click OK in the Install From Disk window. Select the Fiery Controller printer driver and click Next. Name the printer, and choose if it is to be the default printer. Do not share the printer, and select Next. If desired, print a test page and click Finish. Configuring Installable Options Go to Printers, right-click the Fiery Controller printer, and select Properties. Select Installable Options, add/remove the appropriate options/settings, and click OK. On a TCP/IP enabled network, select Two-Way Communication, enter the IP address or Server Name, select Update Fiery Driver When Opened, and click Update to automatically update the options installed on the copier. 11

12 Printing using SMB: You must configure TCP/IP and enable Windows Printing (SMB) on the Fiery Controller. All client computers using SMB must have the TCP/IP protocol installed and Client for Microsoft Networks. Print the Configuration Page to check for the IP address and Server Name. Go to Start/Run on the client computer and enter the Fiery Controller IP address (type \\<IP Address> ), or search Network Neighborhood/My Network Places/Network for the Fiery Controller by IP address or Server Name. If necessary, double-click the icon for the Fiery Controller to display the print queues. Choose the desired print queue (Direct, Hold, or Print) by right-clicking on the queue and selecting Open, or by double-clicking the queue. For instructions on setting up other printing connections, refer to the Fiery Controller documentation. Printing from Mac OS X: Installing Quit Printer Setup Utility if in use. Download the OS X folder to your computer from the User Software DVD or WebTools. Double-click the OSX installer icon in the OS X: Printer Driver folder. Follow the on-screen instructions. Select either Fast or Comprehensive. After installation has completed, click Quit. Setup AppleTalk/Bonjour: AppleTalk and Bonjour must be enabled on the Fiery Controller. Start the Printer Setup Utility, click Add, and choose Default Browser. For AppleTalk, if the Fiery Controller is not displayed in the list of AppleTalk connections, click More Printers. Choose the AppleTalk Zone where the Fiery Controller is located. For Bonjour, select the Fiery Controller with the Bonjour connection type. For both types of connections, proceed to Print Using or Printer Model selection and choose the appropriate manufacturer and the Fiery Controller PPD. Click Add. IP Printing: Start the Printer Setup Utility, click Add, and choose IP Printer. For protocol, choose LPD/LPR or IPP. For LPD/LPR, type the IP address or Server Name and the desired print connection (Print, Hold, or Direct). For IPP, type the IP address or Server name, and in the Queue field, type ipp/ followed by the desired print connection. For both types of connections, proceed to Print Using or Printer Model selection and choose the appropriate manufacturer and the Fiery Controller PPD. Click Add. Configuring In the Printer Setup Utility, select the Fiery Controller print connection, and click Show Info. Select Installable Options, select the appropriate settings, and click Apply Changes. 12
