Focus 3D System Overview Objects are measured by sending a laser beam out across the field of view. When the laser beam encounters a surface, it is returned or reflected back to the scanner. 12
How the Focus 3D Operates Single point measurements are collected at speeds up to 976,000 times per second. The result is a Point Cloud, which is a threedimensional dataset of the scanner s visible environment. 13
Powering on the Scanner Touch Screen Option 14
Focus 3D Touch Screen 1) Start Scan button 2) Parameters button: Opens the dialog to select a scan profile and to edit current scanning parameters 3) View Scans button: Preview the scans stored on SD card 4) Manage button: Manage scan profiles, projects, operators and the scanner 5) Contains information about the currently selected operator, project and scan profile. 15
Scanning PREPARATION Once you are ready to begin the initial scan, verify: The scanner is level (using the inclinometer) and in a stable, secure position. There is sufficient power for the scanner. The SD card has sufficient space. The reference targets are visible and stable. The scan site is protected from outside intrusions. 16
Module 8 SCANNING 17
SCENE - Default Project Folder To start SCENE, double-click shortcut on desktop or start SCENE from the Windows Start menu. Select your Default Project Folder location. 18
SCENE Importing Scan Data The Focus 3D stores scan data only on the SD card; you will want to transfer that data from the SD card to SCENE 1) Open SCENE 2) Insert SD Card into your computer 3) Select YES to automatic data transfer 19
Scan Projects File Structure The Project Workspace: location where you will be working with your scan project data 20
Preprocessing Scan and Auto Registration Preprocessing scans eliminates the need to manually apply filters, detect and identify features, create objects, apply photographs, and REGISTER the scans. To initiate preprocessing: Right-click on Scans folder Select Operations Preprocessing Preprocess Scans 21
22 Preprocessing Scan Data
Preprocessing Scan Data Automatic detection features are available for checkerboards, spheres, straight lines, corners, and rectangles. Select the features used during scanning 23
Preprocessing Scan Data Create Objects from Marker: Creates objects according to the object markers of the scans rather than spheres and checkerboards (e.g., planes and slabs). Update Object Fits: Updates object fits in all scans by determining the best fitting object parameters possible from the scan points. Apply Pictures: Applies pictures in all scans within the folder. Export Image: Creates an overview image for every scan and saves it in the scan folder. 24
Preprocessing Scan Data Place Scans: Registers the scans in the scan folder. Use Inclinometer: Applies inclinometer information (where available) for the registration of the scans. Fine Registration: Performs an additional registration adjustment by comparing overlapping portions of the point clouds while still considering overall target geometry. 25
