If your computer is running a 64-bit operating system, the appropriate driver must be installed before plugging in the PIN pad. PIN Pad: Determine Operating System Type (Windows 7) If your computer is running a 64-bit operating system, the appropriate driver must be installed before plugging in the PIN pad. Installation of the VeriFone PIN pad is operating system specific. Determine whether the computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. Determine System Type 1. Click the Windows Start button. From the displayed menu, right-click Computer. 2. From the displayed menu, select Properties. The System dialog box is displayed. 3. The System > System typesection displays the operating system type. 32-bit Operating System: The computer is running a 32-bit operating system. 64-bit Operating System: The computer is running a 64-bit operating system. Before the PIN pad can be configured, the hardware must be properly installed. Connect Hardware 1. Connect the USB cable to the back of the PIN pad. 2. From the displayed menu, right-click Computer. 3. From the displayed menu, select [Properties]. The System dialog box is displayed. 4. Click [Device Manager]. 5. Expand Other Devices. 6. Right-click PINpad 1000SE. 1 7. From the displayed menu, select Update Driver Software. 8. How do you want to search: Select [Browse my computer for driver software]. 9. Browse for driver software: Select [Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer]. 10. Select your device type: a. Select [Ports (COM & LPT)]. b. Click [Next]. 11. Select device driver: Click [Have Disk]. 12. Install from disk: Click [Browse]. 13. Locate file: a. Click [Desktop]. b. Select verifone_pp1000se usb-uart.inf. c. Click [Open]. The Install from Disk dialog box is redisplayed. 14. Install from disk: Click [OK]. 15. Select device driver: a. Select PP1000se-PCI PIN Pad. b. Click [Next]. 16. When the Windows Security prompt displays, click [Install this driver software anyway]. 17. Successfully updated software: Click [Close]. PIN Pad: Locate Port Assignment On Windows 7 In order for Ascend to communicate with the PIN pad, you must determine the port number to which it is assigned. Determine Port Number 1. Click the Windows Start button. From the displayed menu, right-click Computer. 2. From the displayed menu, select [Properties]. The System dialog box is displayed. 3. Click [Device Manager]. 4. Expand Ports (COM & LPT). 5. Locate Qx_PP1000 USB UART Device. 6. Make note of the port listed after the device name, e.g. COM9. PIN Pad: Set Ascend Options After the PIN pad is installed, Ascend's options must be configured. 1. From the Ascend Desktop, double-click [Options]. The Settings and Options dialog box is displayed. 2. Select the Payment Processing topic. 3. Click [Pinpad Setup]. 4. In the Port field, enter the number for the port to which the PIN pad is assigned, e.g. 9. 5. Click [Save]. The Settings and Options dialog box is redisplayed. 6. Click [OK]. - 8 / 8 -
