Press Release New Sony Cyber-shot Features AVCHD Full HD Video Recording Plus Superior Photography Functions The state-of-the-art DSC-HX5V is the world s first digital camera offering built-in GPS and compass functions Hong Kong, 13 January 2010 Sony is introducing the new DSC-HX5V to its Cyber-shot H Series compact digital camera range. The DSC-HX5V is equipped with a 25-250 mm G Lens with 10x optical zoom, as well as the Exmor R CMOS Sensor combined with BIONZ imaging sensor. The new 10.2-megapixel DSC-HX5V not only produces professional-standard photos, but also creates excellent movies with its AVCHD Full HD video recording capability (1920x1080, 50i). Photography enthusiasts will also appreciate the world s first built-in GPS and compass functions, which add geographical data to photos and movies during recording. The new compact Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V is available in two stylish colours: gold and black, further enhancing its appeal with its modern design. AVCHD Full HD movie recording capability produces professional HD movies The DSC-HX5V utilises the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec which is more than twice as efficient in compressing data as the MPEG-2/MPEG-4 codec. This allows for higher frame rates and improved bit rates to deliver fluid looking movies. The Optical SteadyShot function (Active Mode) increases image stabilisation by up to 10 times, compared to conventional image stabilisers. This function makes it possible to produce clearer photos and movies on the move. 1
The supporting AVCHD video format also assists in the post-shooting stage further improving movies. Inserting a memory stick into an optional DVDirect (models MC6 or MC10) allows users to create high-quality DVDs without a PC. Movies can be also played on PLAYSTATION 3 and Blu-ray Disc devices as well as TVs and PCs. Enhanced shooting enjoyment with built-in GPS and compass functions The GPS and compass functions allow users to access current geographical coordinates when shooting outdoors. The data can be applied to photos and movies, which is particularly beneficial when shooting overseas. In addition, the GPS function automatically adjusts the camera s internal clock by simply selecting the location, saving the user from adjusting the clock manually when travelling through different time zones. The Compass function also indicates the direction in which the camera is pointed towards when shooting. Seamlessly integrated with the bundled PMB, the camera allows users to connect it to the Internet-enabled PC via a USB cable to access the GPS Assist function. Photos and movies can then be transferred to a PC and will be displayed in the bundled PMB s Map View, showing the locations where the photos and movies were taken. G Lens, Exmor R CMOS Sensor and BIONZ combined for shooting versatility The DSC-HX5V features a high-performance 25 mm to 250 mm telephoto G Lens which covers a wider viewing range and vastly increases photographic competency. The G Lens perfectly complements the high-quality imaging technologies of the BIONZ Imaging Processor and Exmor R CMOS Sensor. The BIONZ Imaging Processor delivers high-resolution images and a fast performance; while the 1/2.4-type Exmor R CMOS Sensor with 10.2 effective megapixels is twice as sensitive to the conventional CMOS Sensors. It also has a 50% reduction in noise. The new Cyber-shot camera offers various shooting modes for capturing professional-standard photos such as quick mechanical shutters for continuous shooting; hand-held twilight mode for sharper images; and an anti-motion blur function that creates one optimised image from six superimposed frames. New Intelligent Sweep Panorama for perfect panoramic shots Sweep panorama has evolved into a more intelligent function, which now recognises movement in faces and subjects. This new functionality gives Intelligent Sweep Panorama the ability to combine photos together even those containing people to create extremely natural looking panoramic shots. Backlight correction HDR produces evenly exposed photos Backlight Correct HDR allows for a more evenly exposed photo in backlit environments. This advanced function takes two photos at different exposures then automatically overlaps them. The end result produces an image closely resembling what the human eye sees. The Backlight Correct HDR function reduces whiteout and blackout producing more detail in dark areas and preserves delicate gradations. 2
Capture in-frame self-portraits more easily With the new self-portrait timer function, users can take in-frame self-portraits more easily than before. There are two options available: Self-portrait One Person and Self-portrait Two People. Once the camera confirms the number of faces in the frame, the two-second timer automatically starts to take perfect self-portraits. Exceptional viewing experience when sharing photos with friends The DSC-HX5V features a large 3.0-type Clear Photo LCD screen, which crisply displays images and movies at a high 230,000-dot resolution. In addition, users may connect the camera to an Internet-enabled PC and open the built-in PMB Portable, compatible with both Windows and Macintosh, which allows users to upload movies and photos directly from the camera to photo sharing websites without having to download them onto a PC. The camera is also compatible with Memory Stick and the newly launched SD / SDHC memory cards. The new Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V will be available from mid March 2010 at HK$2, 990.
