The instructions are part of the unit. They contain information about the correct handling of the product. Read the installation instructions before use to familiarise yourself with operating conditions, installation and operation. Adhere to the safety instructions. The operating instructions are intended for authorised persons according to the EMC and low voltage directives. Safety instructions Adhere to the installation instructions. Non-observance of the instructions, operation which is not in accordance with use as prescribed below, wrong installation or handling can affect the safety of operators and machinery. The unit must only be installed, connected and put into operation by a qualified electrician as during the installation dangerous contact voltages may be exposed. The safe function of the unit and the plant is only guaranteed when installation is correctly carried out. Disconnect the unit externally before handling it. Also disconnect any independently supplied relay load circuits. Be careful when operating the connected unit. This is only allowed by qualified personnel due to the protection rating IP 20. The design of the unit corresponds to protection class II (EN600) except for the terminal blocks. Protection against accidental contact (safety from finger contact to IP20) for qualified personnel is only guaranteed if the terminals have been completely inserted. Therefore the unit must always be mounted in a control cabinet of at least IP 54 which can only be opened using a tool. For DC units the external 24 V DC supply must be generated and supplied according to the requirements for safe extra-low voltage (SELV) since this voltage is provided near the operating elements and at the terminals for the supply of sensors without further protection measures. In case of malfunction of the unit or queries please contact the manufacturer. Tampering with the unit can seriously affect the safety of operators and machinery. This is not permitted and leads to an exclusion of liability and warranty. UK 3

Function and features The diagnostic electronics VSE00 is designed for the connection of vibration sensors. It evaluates the sensor signals and indicates whether a preset vibration value for the corresponding sensor has been reached. Vibration diagnosis: up to 20 different rolling element bearings or up to 80 selectable individual frequencies which can be divided between 20 objects Adjustable diagnostic level Spectral analysis FFT, envelope-curve FFT, trend analysis Level monitoring to DIN 086 (rms vibration velocity and peak max.) Evaluation of -- up to 4 sensors VSAxxx or -- ICP sensor (at the connection for sensor ) and up to 3 VSAxxx sensors Maximum length of the sensor cable: 30 m 2 inputs for operating quantities (e.g. load and rotational speed): -- analogue 0...20 ma -- digital Impulse 24 V DC 2 outputs -- analogue (4...20 ma) or digital -- digital Settings with the PC software article no. VES003 Communication via Ethernet with a PC or processor The unit is not approved for safety-related tasks with respect to the safety of operators. Mounting Mount the unit in a control cabinet of min. IP 54 to guarantee protection against accidental contact with dangerous contact voltages and atmospheric influence. The control cabinet should be installed in accordance with local and national regulations. 4

Mount the unit on a DIN rail. Mount it vertically and leave enough space between the unit and the top and bottom of the control cabinet (for air circulation to avoid excessive heating). Prevent the penetration of conductive or other dirt during installation or wiring. The unit must be connected by a qualified electrician. Mounting of the sensors Adhere to the mounting instructions supplied with the sensor. Electrical connection UK The national and international regulations for the installation of electrical equipment must be adhered to. Avoid contact with dangerous contact voltages. Disconnect power before wiring the system! In particular consider other circuits at the inputs and outputs. To prevent malfunction due to noise voltages, the sensor cable and load cable should be laid separately. Maximum length of the sensor cable: 30 m. Connection using a Combicon connector (premounted). Combicon connectors are also available as accessories: Connector with cage clamps (Order no. E407) Connector with screw terminals (Order no. E4073) The outputs are protected against short circuits up to 00 ma. The outputs can be programmed to be either NC or NO. In addition the output <OUT > can provide an analogue signal (0/4...20 ma) of the acceleration values. 5

Protect the supply voltage externally (max. 2A)! The terminals of the DC supply are directly connected to the terminals of the sensor supply. The SELV criteria must therefore be met for the DC supply (safe extra-low voltage, circuit electrically separated from other circuits, not grounded). If the DC circuit is to be grounded (e.g. due to national regulations), the PELV criteria must be adhered to (safe extra-low voltage, circuit electrically separated from other circuits). Connection of the sensors Adhere to the SELV criteria when connecting the sensors so that no dangerous contact voltages are applied or transferred to the sensor! The sensor and VSE supply are not electrically separated. Monitoring of the sensor cable: In case of wire break or short circuit the output [OUT 2] switches and the LED [SENS] of the sensor flashes green. UK Ethernet connection The RJ45 socket is used for connection to the Ethernet configurable to 0 or 00 Mbits/s (= 0 / 00 Mbd). Ethernet cables are available as accessories, e.g.: Cross-over cable 2 m (article no. EC2080) Cross-over cable 5 m (article no. E302) 7

Function Up to 4 sensors VSA00 continuously detect the acceleration at non rotating machine surfaces (total sampling rate 00 khz). The diagnostic electronics receives these signals via a current interface and calculates the amplitudes of the parametized damage frequencies (e.g. inner race, outer race and rolling elements) of up to 5 different diagnosis objects per sensor consisting of maximum 20 individual frequencies. The rolling element bearings or diagnosis objects to be monitored are defined at the PC using a software (article no. VES003) and then transferred as a parameter set to the diagnostic electronics via the Ethernet interface (pos. ). The diagnosis objects are evaluated and monitored relatively to the teach value (reference value). Optionally, the diagnostic electronics also calculates the rms value and maximum value of the acceleration or the vibration velocity. Evaluation and monitoring are then carried out via absolute limit values without a reference value, e.g. to DIN 086. The diagnosis object or the level with the highest degree of damage is indicated as early warning and main alarm via switching outputs. Optionally, the measured value / object value can also be provided as an analogue signal. At the same time the diagnostic electronics separately indicates the operating status for every sensor using multi-colour LEDs. The diagnostic electronics uses its own object limit values for all set spectral diagnosis objects for early warning (yellow) and main alarm (red). The limit values of the diagnosis objects are always related to the stored teach value and therefore describe a signal fan-out. Green always corresponds to 00 %. The diagnosis value is weighted according to the set curve signal weighting to consider differences for the trigger threshold for different rotational speeds in case of a speed-variable operation. Each diagnosis object has individual weighting curves. efector octavis uses its own broad band limit values to monitor the vibration level within the time range. Contrary to the diagnosis objects, they are absolute values of the vibration acceleration (unit [mg]) or vibration velocity. efector octavis can be used with fixed and variable speeds. For a correct diagnosis for a variable speed the actual speed must be provided by a 8

0/4...20 ma current loop or pulse signal of the diagnostic electronics. Optionally another operating quantity (e.g. load) can be used for the evaluation. When using efector octavis with a variable speed ensure that the operating speed related to the set values remains constant for intermittent periods. In case of wire break or short circuit the outputs switch off and the LED of the sensor lights red. After rectification of the fault the unit is again ready for operation. Setting and operation: Only with the software for efector octavis, article no. VES003 user manual or software online help UK 9
