Accessing the Console and Re-Installing your VPS Manually This guide will walk you through the necessary steps to access your VPS console and re-install your VPS OS manually. Step 1 Access your VPS information from the Client Area You can access details about your VPS by logging into our client area at: https://freerangecloud.com/clientarea.php Once logged in, click on the VPS you would like to view the details for. Step 2 Access the Proxmox control panel Figure 1 Accessing the VPS details In the VPS Details overview, you will see a link to the control panel. You will also see your control panel username displayed. Your password should have been emailed to you, however, in the event you have lost it you may use the ChangePassword link in the sidebar. Figure 3 Resetting your password if you have forgot it **NOTE That pressing the Change password option will change your VPS manager password but NOT your client area password. They are managed separately. You will now be taken to the Proxmox login screen, you can login with the same credentials you use to login to the billing portal. Ensure that Linux PAM standard authentication is selected in the Realm dropdown. Figure 4 Login to Proxmox
Step 3 Select your VPS and open the Console You should be able to click on your desired VPS in the left-hand side bar. Figure 5 Select VPS In the right-hand side of the window, details about your VPS will populate. To open the console, click the arrow next to the Console button in the upper right corner of the screen. Please select the novnc option Spice option. Figure 6 Accessing the Console If for whatever reason, the novnc console doesn t work for you, you may need to select the SPICE option. Using the SPICE console will require additional software whcihc is freely available from: https://virt-manager.org/download/ A new window should open in your browser with the VMs console. NOTE you may need to allow popups to see the console as many browsers will block it by default.
Figure 7 VPS Console Step 4 Mounting a CD or DVD ISO You should now have access to your VPS console, as though you were sitting in front of the machine. In the event you need to re-install your OS, these instructions will walk you through mounting an ISO. If you need an ISO that is not available, please submit a ticket to: https://portal.freerangecloud.com and we would be happy to add it. To mount the ISO, first ensure your VPS is selected in the left-hand side bar. Then click on the Hardware tab. Next, click the CD/DVD Drive and finally, click the edit button at the top of the screen. Figure 8 Edit CD/DVD Drive
In the Edit CD/DVD Drive screen, select the Use CD/DVD disc image file radio button. Under storage, select iso And under Image select your desired iso image from the dropdown. Figure 9 Select ISO image Step 5 Reboot the VPS The final step is to reboot your VPS with the ISO mounted so it may boot from the ISO and allow you to re-install. To reboot, first ensure your VPS is selected in the left-hand side bar. Next, in the upper left corner, click the small triangle next to the shutdown option. Finally, press the Reset button in the dropdown. Figure 10 -Restarting VPS Return to the novnc console you opened in step 3 and monitor the boot process.
