Rack with appropriate power distribution units (PDUs) and main power distribution HC10 blade installed in BladeCenter chassis Monitor, USB keyboard, and USB mouse for setup DVI to VGA dongle if monitor has only VGA connector Planned availability date October 8, 2007 Note: Products purchased prior to November 29, 2007, will not be certified in Korea, Taiwan, Australia / New Zealand, Mexico, or Russia, and cannot be shipped by IBM or Business Partners to those countries. Description The IBM CP20 Workstation Connection Device is the end-user device for accessing the IBM BladeCenter HC10. The HC10 solution offers the benefits of server-based solutions for workstation users: Helps increase security and privacy by locating data in the datacenter Provides flexible access to workstation applications, which can help enhance productivity Helps reduce power, cooling, noise, and clutter compared to traditional workstations Facilitates centralized management and service, which can reduce costs The IBM CP20 Workstation Connection Device, placed on or near the user's desk, connects to the HC10 via Ethernet and provides ports for monitors, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals. It has no high-level operating system, disks, or persistent storage. About the size of a book, the CP20 is virtually silent with no moving parts and consumes low power. All of these features help contribute to a cooler, quieter, less cluttered workspace. Connections provided by the CP20 are: Two DVI-I video connections for monitors Four USB connections for keyboard, mouse, and virtually any other USB device using standard Windows device drivers High-definition audio Ethernet for connection to the HC10 Graphics and USB data, compressed and encrypted for increased security, are transferred between the HC10 and CP20 via a standard Ethernet network. IBM recommends use of a corporate intranet rather than public WAN for performance reasons. IBM CP20 and IBM BladeCenter HC10 I/O each use the Graphics Transmission Adapter to provide a Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) interface for management software. Third-party software can provide a connection management feature using this interface, and IBM anticipates providing a connection management solution in the future. IBM Electronic Services IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent. The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems.
