P a g e 1 Software Radio Laboratory LLC, Powell, Ohio, USA <http://www.srl-llc.com> QS1R Receiver Application Note: August 21, 2010 QS1R Driver Installation on Windows XP On Windows XP, the QS1R Receiver uses the Microsoft supplied WinUSB driver. This document covers the installation of the WinUSB driver for the QS1R Receiver on Microsoft Windows XP operation systems including Windows XP SP1, SP2, and SP3. Preliminary Steps: Please download and install SDRMAXII from http://www.srl-llc.com/qs1r_latest/lateststablerelease/ Connect the power supply to the QS1R DC IN jack on the rear of the unit. The PWR LED should illuminate. Connect the USB cable to a USB 2.0 jack on your PC and to the QS1R Receiver. NOTE: The following figures may appear slightly different depending on the version of Windows XP you are installing the drivers on. NOTE: When the SDRMAXII software is installed, the driver installation files will reside in the /SDRMAXII/ServerFiles/DriverFiles folder. The installation program will install the SDRMAXII files to the folder C:\Program Files\SDRMAXII\ by default.
P a g e 2 1. Windows Found New Hardware Wizard should detect the addition of the new hardware and ask if you want to search on line for a driver. Please select No, not this time and click on the Next button. See Figure 1 below. Figure 1
P a g e 3 2. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box should appear as in Figure 2 below. Choose Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and click on the Next button. Figure 2
P a g e 4 3. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box should appear as in Figure 3 below. Choose Don t search. I will choose the driver to install. and click on the Next button. Figure 3
P a g e 5 4. The dialog should now appear similar to Figure 4 below. Click on the Have Disk button. Figure 4 NOTE: In the above dialog box, the listbox may not show the QS1R Receiver under the Show compatible hardware and Model listbox as shown in Figure 4. This is normal and does not indicate a problem in the installation process.
P a g e 6 5. The Install From Disk dialog should appear as shown in Figure 5 below. Click on the Browse button. Figure 5
P a g e 7 6. The Locate File dialog box should appear as shown in Figure 6 below. In the Locate File dialog box, navigate to the folder where you have installed the SDRMAXII software. This is typically C:\Program Files\SDRMAXII\ServerFiles\DriverFiles by default. Select the qs1r.inf file and click the Open button. Figure 6
P a g e 8 7. The Install From Disk dialog should reappear as shown in Figure 7 below. Click on the OK button. Figure 7

P a g e 12 11. Once the Found New Hardware Wizard completes installing the driver, the dialog should appear as shown in Figure 11 below. Verify that the dialog indicates The wizard has finished installing software for: QS1R Receiver. Click on the Finish button. Figure 11
P a g e 13 12. (OPTIONAL) If you want to verify that the driver is installed you can view it in the Device Manager. To get to the Device Manager you can right click on "My Computer" and select properties. The QS1R should show up under "SRL-LLC Devices" similar to Figure 12 below. This completes the installation of the QS1R WinUSB driver on Windows XP. Figure 12
