Bluetooth Troubleshooting Guide Instructions & Advice - Setting Up Your Bluetooth Music Receiver Bluetooth music receivers are simple to use and if you have purchased the correct receiver for your docking station or stereo, will deliver fantastic quality audio. If you do experience problems, it will usually be because the receiver is incompatible, but before returning your receiver to us, there are some steps that you need to follow first. The troubleshooting guide is split into the following sections to enable you to find the information that you require quickly. 1.0 i-dock - Troubleshooting 2.0 I-SYNC Troubleshooting 3.0 BS-1 Troubleshooting 4.0 Sony, Phillips & Panasonic Docks or Stereo Hi-Fi Systems 5.0 Using Bluetooth receivers in cars 6.0 Using a Bluetooth receiver with laptops 1.0 i-dock - TROUBLESHOOTING Quick Set Up: Insert i-dock into 30pin connection in your docking station / stereo. Ensure Bluetooth is on on your phone or Bluetooth device. Hold down the button on the i-dock whilst your device is searching for it, until it pairs. Once connected you can start streaming your music. The i-dock is not powering up. If the i-dock will not power up and the lights don't come on, it may be incompatible. If you have a Bose Dock, it's likely that you have the original Bose Series 1 which requires a different receiver. Please return the i-dock and purchase the BS-1 which has been designed specifically for this dock. If you have a different branded dock / stereo and the i-dock does not work, you will need to exchange for an AUX Bluetooth Receiver (so long as you have a 3.5mm Audio-in / AUX Jack) If the i-dock won t work with your dock, it s very unlikely that you will find another 30pin receiver that will work. If your dock is a Sony, Phillips or Panasonic and the i-sync doesn't power up, it is incompatible. Please return it and purchase one of our AUX receivers. Our two best-selling AUX receivers are the LAYEN AudioStream and the LAYEN Bluetooth Plug. They do not have compatibility issues and will work with any brand or model of stereo, docking stations or speakers with an AUX connection / 3.5mm Audio-in Jack. i-dock powers up / pairs but there's no sound. This is usually a sign that the receiver is incompatible. On the LAYEN website, all known compatible and incompatible docks are listed in the product description. If your dock is incompatible you will need to return the i-dock and purchase an AUX receiver (please see first bullet point). i-dock won't pair. Important: Have you held down the button whilst trying to pair? To pair your device for the first time, you need to hold down the button on the i-dock to allow your device to search for and find it. Hold it down until connected. You will need to keep the device close to the dock / receiver during the pairing process. Once connected, transmission distance is up to 10m and through walls. i-dock still won't pair. Whether you are trying it out for the first time, or you have been switching between different devices (and have held down the pairing button whilst trying to pair) follow these steps to re-set your Bluetooth settings: Take the receiver out and turn the power off from the dock. Delete all devices from your Bluetooth Setting and turn your phone / tablet off and then on again. Turn both the dock and phone / tablet on again and start the process again to pair the devices.

Bluetooth Troubleshooting Guide Trouble connecting from one device to another. Make sure that you un-pair the first device, before testing it on a second otherwise the I-DOCK might get confused. Also make sure that your device (phone / tablet) is not trying to pair to another Bluetooth device at the same time. If you are still having issues, please turn off the Bluetooth function on all the devices you have been connecting with. Then try re-setting the two devices; turn the device you are trying to connect off completely and turn back on again; then turn your dock off and on again at the power source. Now start the pairing process from the beginning and it should work fine. Other things to check. Make sure the volume on both your dock and phone/ tablet are turned up; Make sure that the dock is plugged into the mains; Try turning the volume on the phone down and up on the dock and vice versa. Check the connection. To rule out a fault with the docking station itself, please remove the i- DOCK and insert an ipod or iphone to make sure it works and to also check the sound quality. i-dock is hissing and causing interference. You should receive crystal clear audio through the i-dock without interference or loss in audio quality. Please check that the power supply socket in the docking station / sound dock has not come loose and causing an incomplete connection. Please check the 30pin connection of the docking station with an ipod or iphone. If the back-plate is removable, remove and re-seat it. Check the receiver is correctly / securely connected. Try a Bluetooth reset (forgetting all Bluetooth devices, powering down both the dock and device and starting again). If there is still hissing and interference, it could be that it is faulty. This is rare. If this is the case, please return it for testing and an exchange. I can't turn off my Bose Docking Station. If you have a Bose dock that you can't turn off via the remote whilst the I-DOCK is connected, you will simply need to remove the I-DOCK. The I-DOCK works exactly as an iphone or ipod would. You would need to do the same with these devices, because there is a constant power supply running through, so when a device is connected the dock remains in a standby mode and will stay in that mode until its' been removed. The other alternative is of course to turn it off at the mains. I-DOCK dropping out. The i-dock will allow a 10m range between itself and the music streaming Bluetooth device. If you move beyond the 10m range the i-dock will drop out. It will automatically reconnect once back in range. If the i-dock is dropping out when the range is less than 10m, please try re-setting the Bluetooth on re-starting all devices. If the issue continue there might be a fault. Again this is rare. Please return to LAYEN for testing. Please note, all LAYEN 30 pin receivers accept analogue signal. In general most docks accept Analogue and Digital, but some (the minority) will only accept Digital. If this is the case, the receiver will power up but no audio will be received. (It will not play). In such cases we advise our AUX receivers. 2.0 i-sync TROUBLESHOOTING Quick Set Up: Insert i-sync into 30pin connection in your docking station / stereo. Ensure Bluetooth is on on your phone or Bluetooth device. Hold down the button on the i-sync whilst your device is searching for it, until it pairs. Once connected you can start streaming your music. The i-sync is not powering up. If the i-sync will not power up and the lights don't come on, it may be incompatible. If you have a Bose Dock, it's likely that you have the original Bose Series 1 which requires a different receiver. Please return the i-sync and purchase the BS-1 which has been designed specifically for this dock. If you have a different branded dock / stereo and the i-sync does not work, you will need to exchange for an AUX Bluetooth Receiver (so long as you have a 3.5mm Audio-in / AUX Jack) If the i-sync won t work with your dock, it s very unlikely that you will find another 30pin receiver that will work.

In such cases we advise our AUX receivers.

3.0 BS-1 TROUBLESHOOTING Bluetooth Troubleshooting Guide Quick Set Up: Insert BS-1 into 30pin connection in your docking station / stereo. BS-1 will automatically enter pairing mode. Ensure Bluetooth is on on your phone or Bluetooth device. Keep the BS-1 and phone / Bluetooth device within 1m whilst pairing. Select BS-1 from list to connect. Once connected you can start streaming your music. The BS-1 is not powering up. If the BS-1 doesn t power up and the light doesn't come on it's very likely that you have the incorrect receiver for your version Bose. You will in fact have a slightly later version Bose dock and so need either the i-sync or i-dock either of which will work. Bose released two versions of the Bose 1 and although they look identical and are impossible to tell apart, they run off a different charge output to each other. The BS-1 will only work on first release of the Bose Series 1 SoundDock. When looking up the serial number you will find that both say they are a Bose 1, making it difficult to determine which receiver you need. If the BS-1 won t power up, please return it for a refund and purchase either the i- DOCK or i-sync. Which Version Bose do I have? Usually the only way to tell is by testing the charge capability when an iphone 3GS / 4 / 4S is docked. If the Bose CAN T charge the iphone (a message will come up saying charging may not be supported) you have the original Bose 1 and need the BS-1. If the dock CAN provide a charge to the iphone when docked, you have the later version and instead need the i-dock or i-sync. I've already bought the BS-1. No problem, all you need to do is return the BS-1 for a refund and purchase the i-sync or i-dock instead. BS-1 powers up but there's no sound. It may be incompatible, if you are testing it out with a dock other than the Bose SoundDock 1, you will need to return it. We would recommend either testing an i-dock / i-sync or buying an AUX Bluetooth Receiver (if you have an AUX connection). Our two best-selling AUX receivers are the LAYEN AudioStream and the LAYEN Bluetooth Plug. They do not have compatibility issues and will work with any brand or model of stereo, docking stations or speakers with an AUX connection / 3.5mm Audio-in Jack. BS-1 won't pair. Whether you are trying it out for the first time, or you have been switching between different devices, follow these steps to re-set your Bluetooth settings: Take the receiver out and turn the power off from the dock. Delete all devices from your Bluetooth Setting and turn your phone / tablet off and then on again. Turn both the dock and phone / tablet on again and start the process again to pair the devices. There is a beeping sound from the dock. Please make sure that the power cable at the back is connected in the correct position. It's easy when unplugging it from the dock to accidentally twist it around and re-insert into the 4 pin. If it's not inserted in the right way it can produce a ticking / beeping noise. If this happens please unplug and twist around and reinsert until the noise has gone. Interference / Hissing / Crackling. Please follow the step above. Please also make sure that there is a secure connection between the Dock and receiver. It's important to test the dock connection with an ipod or iphone to make sure that the connection is sound. Remember these docks are several years old and there can be issues with the pins / connection. Trouble connecting from one device to another. Make sure that you un-pair the first device, before testing it on a second otherwise the BS-1 will get confused. Also make sure that your device (phone / tablet) is not trying to pair to another Bluetooth device at the same time. BS-1 is hissing and causing interference. Please check that the power supply socket in the docking station / sound dock has not come loose and causing an incomplete

Bluetooth Troubleshooting Guide connection. Take off the back-plate and re-seat it. The BS-1 should then work fine. Check the receiver is correctly attached. BS-1 is still hissing and causing interference. It could be that it is faulty. This is rare. If this is the case, please return it for testing and an exchange. 4.0 SONY, PHILLIPS & PANASONIC DOCKS or STEREO Hi-Fi SYSTEMS Unfortunately with Sony, Phillips and Panasonic, 30pin receivers often face compatibility issues. The receiver will light up, you can pair and connect, but no music will play. Now our receivers are more geared towards docking stations, though they have do excellent results with many other brand of Hi-Fi systems. Our advice would always be if you've not already tested out a 30pin receiver on your system and wanted to, we'd always recommend testing our i-dock. The i-dock is one of the best Bluetooth music receivers available on the market, so if that doesn't work you are very unlikely to find a 30pin Bluetooth receiver that will work. If this is the case, you simply need to use an AUX Bluetooth receiver instead - we have a range of AUX Bluetooth receivers available. Each comes with different features and design but all will overcome the incompatibility issue. The only difference between these and the 30 pin receivers is that they require a charge via USB (approx. 2.5hrs for around 8-10 hours playback). A small price to pay for making your stereo Bluetooth. And if you have a USB socket handy, or a USB plug most of our range can play and charge at the same time. Please return the 30pin Bluetooth receiver for a refund and purchase the AUX receiver separately. If you have already tested several Bluetooth music receivers - and to no avail - then again we recommend one of our AUX Bluetooth Receivers We have two premium and best-selling AUX receivers: The Bluetooth Receiver Plug. This is the best alternative to a 30pin receiver and because it s connected via the AUX it will work with ANY docking station or stereo overcoming all incompatibility issues. Because it is incorporated within a plug it also provides a permanent Bluetooth connection, unlike other AUX receivers which need to be re-charged via USB. The AudioStream: This is our latest AUX receiver, boasting Bluetooth version 4.0 and AptX. Unlike the plug it doesn t connect via the mains, but instead does require charging. However, unlike other rechargeable receivers, the AudioStream can play and charge at the same time. 5.0 BLUETOOTH RECEIVERS FOR CARS If you're looking to make your car stereo Bluetooth and streaming music via your smartphone without any cables, it is possible - but not with all car stereos. Compatibility is more restricted with car stereos than it is with docking stations and results can vary between different vehicle manufacturers. As a rule of thumb, the 30 pin Bluetooth Receivers will only work with stereos and docks that accept analogue or analogue and digital. They will not work if your car stereo accepts digital only. If you're not sure we'd recommend searching Google for your serial / model number to find out if it's analogue or digital, or you can get in touch with your manufacturer. If it's analogue we'd recommend purchasing one of our AUX Bluetooth Receivers (if you have an AUX input).

Bluetooth Troubleshooting Guide If you think that a 30pin receiver will be compatible or want to try one out to see, we recommend testing the i-dock. If it doesn't work out we have a no-quibble return policy and can offer a refund or exchange (just keep the item in as new condition and carefully remove from packaging so as not to scratch the device). Now if it doesn t work, it s not the end of the road you just need to use one of our AUX solutions. Newer cars will have the AUX port either in the glove box, in the arm rest, on the face of the stereo, or in some models, the port will be at the back of the head unit. The receivers are very small, so if it is on the front of the unit, they are quite easy to position in place, if it s at the back, you will need to remove the head unit, then pull the wire through the back and make a home in the glove box. Please note the receivers will enable the music to transmit wirelessly but they will not enable steering controls to function and will not offer hands free Bluetooth calls. Once you are set up, you can connect as usual so smartphones, tablets, laptops etc! (used by the passengers of course!) Most car system are specifically designed to use with Apple products only, not third-party devices, so they often struggle. In this case we advise using one our AUX receivers. 6.0 USING A BLUETOOTH RECEIVER WITH A LAPTOP (or MAC) Because all laptops are set up completely differently, customers do sometimes experience issues with connecting or trying to enable the Bluetooth function (writing this now I myself had a similar initial problem using a brand spanking new Dell Inspiron the 'Special Edition Multi- Media' model which should have had no issues!). Each laptop is different, but there are number of things you can do. Firstly check your Bluetooth is turned on. Second is to check your laptop has found the receiver. Third is to actually pair with it you may have found the device in your Bluetooth list but have you actually paired? Some other points of advice: try clearing your Bluetooth list, and turning the Bluetooth on and off; make sure you are not too far away when initially pairing; and lastly go to windows troubleshooting to assess the issue. Most times Windows will automatically solve the issue, occasionally you will need to download new drivers which will fix the issue and have you up and running. Another thing to try is switching the Wi-Fi on and off then trying to reconnect to the Bluetooth receiver. Please Note: if it is your laptop Bluetooth function that won t work or if you have an old model or have tried and failed before, then simply purchase the LAYEN BTS (Bluetooth Transmitter) which can be connected to your laptop and will enable it to transmit a Bluetooth Signal to the receiver (in the dock) and then you will be able to pair the devices.
