Executive Summary The history of electronic products started over 100 years ago. As time went on, consumer products were created and developed for use in everyday life. Today, our society is reliant on many of these technologies to get us through our day. Nowadays, these electronic systems are increasingly complex and need to be integrated. In turn, the consumer electronics market is larger and more competitive than ever, so the products that are developed must have eye catching style, the latest technology and a competitive price to be successful. Today s Product Development Challenges When creating an electronic product in today s market, there are many factors to take into account. More than ever before, the elements inside the device are more integrated and need to work together. This in turn means that the design is much more complex. The product developer must not only stay up to date on current technology, design, integrations, and innovations, but they must also understand how to implement this knowledge into the manufacturing stage, as it all needs to be flawlessly integrated with each other so the product functions per the system requirements. Pricing is another important factor in the current electronic product market. Manufacturing is more efficient than ever before and labor costs are lower as labor itself moves into countries with a cheaper 1 overall cost of living. Globalization also adds a dimension to this factor, as these products can be sold all over the world and need to fit into a variety of consumer lifestyles. for smaller and more complex products to be built. Every detail is going to make a huge difference, and impact in the design and development steps. The consumer electronics market is large and competitive. Consumers are faced with many options when choosing a product which means style, design, latest technology and performance also have a large factor in their purchase decision. Therefore, the developer also needs to be familiar with all aspects of system architecture and design from a business standpoint. For example, a device/system is not just electronic circuitry, software, firmware, packaging, mechanical, environmental issues and concerns, but also representative of short and long term business and marketing requirements. With this in mind, there are steps that can be taken during the product s electronic development process to ensure that the device is able to work within the ever changing consumer electronics market. We also have done many intelligent industrial control boards to sense, manage and communicate to other systems via different interfaces, protocols and wireless methods SunMan Engineering entered the IoT market in 2005 by introducing the connected car concept to the world at CES Las Vegas with several products including a powerful vehicle-mounted device with WiMax/4G, Wi-Fi Hotspot capabilities, Bluetooth, GPS, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, an altimeter, a temperature sensor, and a touch screen, designed to provide mobile functions for a better driving experience and safety. In partnership with Intel, Vodafone, and Clearwire (Sprint), it was the first tablet ever to feature natural language speech recognition and incorporate several applications for safety, productivity, security, and entertainment all in one device. The names DashTop was selected and trademarked by SunMan Engineering as there was no association to the term tablet at the time. SunMan Engineering pioneered the first Connected Car technology in 2005 and took several products to market, setting the stage for internet connectivity now found in virtually every vehicle produced today, as well as being the precursor for self-driving vehicles. This, and other novel technologies, have resulted in SunMan Engineering being an industry leader in original technology development. SunMan Engineering developed and built the smallest PC computer in the world in 2011, the size of a credit card and three times the thickness for the Department of Defense. This PC computer can fit into a wallet. (Demo available) SunMan Engineering recently released a portfolio of products aimed at simplifying IoT for the entire range of connectivity applications. This includes a very low cost family of small wireless and wired modules plus all the necessary sensor interfaces that self-configure themselves with full cloud connectivity for locations either small or statewide. SunMan Engineering developed the first device in the world to record 3-axis vibration and shock for the University of Michigan in 2010. It transmitted the recorded 3-axis vibration and shock in real time and communicated it to PC via Wifi. This device was so small that we could fit it into the shoes and balls to detect the movement, steps and forces. This technology was utilized by Nike for their sport shoes. SunMan Engineering recently developed a low powered gas sensor for environmental monitoring and prognostics for a one of our clients to sense and measurer CO2, O2 and NO2 for clean air indication, humidity and tempura. The gas sensor was designed to communicate wirelessly with any blue tooth device to transmit and receive information from other platforms. The Gas sensor processed the environmental data and if pre-established thresholds breached, a set of LED would light up to indicate unsafe air quality. Data continuously collected and stored on the Gas sensor board device. An associated device like a phone will be able to collect data from the Gas sensor via a hard wired connection or wirelessly. (Demo available) Currently, SunMan Engineering is working on IoT medical devices for patient remote monitoring technology to monitor body metrics and transmit the collated information to the back server.
