Multicom 2000 Database Conversion Addendum Procedure for converting Multicom 2000 MCPCA2 microprocessor database versions 4.41 or 4.42 to MCPCA3 microprocessor version 5.00. An existing Multicom 2000 MCPCA2 database file of either version 4.41 or 4.42 can be converted to version 5.00 for use with the MCPCA3 microprocessor card. If the existing MCPCA2 database files are not available, they can be downloaded from the microprocessor card using a new version of the Bogen Commander (MCPCI Ver. 2.0 or later). IMPORTANT: If you have system files, make copies of them for safekeeping before proceeding. Conversion Procedure: 1. Install Bogen Commander MCPCI Ver. 2.0 or later on your PC. To install, refer to Bogen Commander Software Instruction Manual, Model MCPCI Ver. 2.0, #54-2035-01. 2. Run the Bogen Commander program. If using an existing MCPCA2 database file version 4.41 or 4.42, skip to step 4. 3. If downloading a database file from an MCPCA2 card, create a new customer and facility Ver. 4.41 in Bogen Commander. a. With the MCPCA2 card in the system, connect to Multicom. b. Download from Multicom to Bogen Commander. If you receive a Version numbers do not match error, retry using facility Ver. 4.42. c. Save the file. d. Power down the Multicom and swap in the MCPCA3 microprocessor card. 4. In Bogen Commander, click on the facility name that you are working on. In the Software Version window (now displaying 4.41 or 4.42), type 05.00 to change the software version number to Version 5.00. 5. The following changes should be displayed in the window of Version 5.00: a. The 911 prefix box has been added. b. 5 and 6 digit dialing has been added in the Dialing Length box. 6. If needed, make any new changes that may be required. 7. Save the changes. This is now the Ver. 5.00 database for this facility. 8. Power up the Multicom system (now with the MCPCA3 installed). 9. Use Bogen Commander to reconnect to the Multicom. 10. Proceed with the upload to Multicom. C h a p t e r O n e Introduction and Installation 1 1.1 Product Description and Overview The Bogen Commander application interface provides a user-friendly alternative to programming and testing the Multicom 2000 Administrative Communication System. The Bogen Commander provides users with a flexible, easy-to-use software solution for facility database creation and maintenance. With the Bogen Commander, you can: Design and create Multicom 2000 facility databases, including system, station and schedule information, using an interface that looks like Windows Explorer. Upload or download database information to and from the Multicom 2000 using a local direct or remote dial connection. Databases are created and modified offline, then uploaded to the Multicom system. Test Multicom 2000 components, including analog, station and telephone cards, address validity and memory. Diagnostics are performed while online with the Multicom 2000 via the local or remote connection. The Bogen Commander enables you to create and configure the databases necessary to control the behavior of the Multicom 2000. Using a personal computer, you configure one or more customer-specific databases, defining facility, station and schedule details. The personal computer is not necessary for daily unit operation. In addition to initial facility creation, the Bogen Commander enables you to update, modify or delete existing database information, including data previously programmed into the Multicom 2000. 1.2 System Requirements To operate the Bogen Commander software, the personal computer (PC) must meet the minimum system requirements outlined below. System Requirements Personal Computer (PC) with: 1 available Serial communications port (RS232) CD-ROM Disc Drive Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 Chapter 1 Introduction and Installation 3

Multicom 2000 Requirements Multicom 2000 software version 5.00. NOTE: If upgrading to Multicom 2000 version 5.00 and the existing Multicom processor card is the MCPCA or MCPCA2 model, the processor card must be replaced with a model MCPCA3 processor card. In this case, purchase a MCPCA3 with version 5.00 already installed on it. NOTE: If upgrading the processor card to MCPCA3, any MCDS3 or MCDS4 Telephones connected to the system must be upgraded to version 5.12 (MCDSSW) or they can be replaced with new MCDS4 phones. 1.3 Installing the Personal Computer Interface Before installing the Bogen Commander, check the system requirements discussed in Section 1.2, Understanding System Requirements. If the PC does not meet the requirements, you may have trouble installing or using the software. The Bogen Commander is designed for quick and easy installation. This section provides the information needed to install the Bogen Commander successfully. NOTE: If upgrading to Multicom 2000 version 4.41 or 5.00, set the baud rate to 19200 bps prior to connecting with the Bogen Commander. This is not necessary if upgrading from 4.40 to 4.41. The baud rate can be set from an administrative telephone or by dialing 2** and selecting the proper baud rate. Chapter 1 Introduction and Installation 4 To install the PCI software on a PC running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, follow the steps below. 1. Close any open applications. 2. Insert the installation CD into the CD drive. AutoRun may take up to a minute to start. If the CD does not AutoRun, or if you have this feature diabled: A. Click the Start button and select Run to display the Run Dialog box. B. Click on the Browse button to display the Browse dialog box. Find and click on the CD Drive icon. C. Select CD_Start to place it in the File name text box. Click on the Open button to return to the Run dialog box. D. Click on the OK button to begin the Installation. 3. Choose software to install Bogen Commander or Flash Loader. 4. Wait for the Install Shield Wizard dialog box to open, then click Next. 5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install on the computer. 6. The setup program selects a default directory in which to install the Bogen Commander program. Selecting the default is recommended. 7. Remove the installation diskette from the drive. The setup program creates a shortcut on the desktop and start menu for launching the Bogen Commander software. NOTE: The shortcut for the desktop will not be created if running Windows NT 4.0.

C h a p t e r T w o Programming the Bogen Commander 2 The Bogen Commander enables you to: Create, modify and organize customer databases Store facility information, including contact closure, time zone duration, station and schedule characteristics Receive and send customer and facility information to the Multicom 2000 Provide access to the Multicom 2000 unit via modem or direct connection Test the system functions and individual cards installed in the Multicom 2000 system 2.1 Understanding the Bogen Commander Folder System The Bogen Commander folder system enables you to enter and store information for each individual customer and/or facility. Designed to resemble Windows Explorer, the folder system is easy to use and organize, facilitating both the entry and access of specific customer information. You determine the specific organization of the folders, including whether or not to maintain one or multiple Bogen Commander databases. There is no limit to the number of customer-specific folders that you create. If you elect to maintain one database, each customer is represented as a separate folder within that database. If you elect to maintain multiple databases, you create one or more customer folders per database. Facility databases appear as sub-folders and must be co-located with the associated customer folder. NOTE: You can create more than one facility for each customer. 2.2 Creating a Customer Folder The Bogen Commander enables you to create one or more customer folders to interface with the Multicom 2000 unit. The information entered is specific to each customer and the associated facilities for that customer. Information, including facility stations and schedules, can not be shared among customers or facilities, and must be entered for each customer folder created. Use the mouse or Tab key to move between data fields. NOTE: Additions and/or changes to the database must be saved using the Save option from the File menu. The Bogen Commander prompts you to save the database prior to changing facilities or exiting the database. However, it is recommended that when entering information, it is saved on a regular basis to avoid losing data in the case of PC lock ups or power failures. To create one or more customer folders, select the Bogen Commander icon. The Bogen Commander Screen appears on the screen (see Figure 2-1). Select the File option on the top left of the screen. A drop down menu appears on the screen (see Figure 2-2). Chapter 2 Programming the Bogen Commander 7

The fields on the Bogen Commander File Screen are: Open Database NOTE: New Rename Save Enables the user to create a new database or open a previously created Bogen Commander database. The database can contain multiple customers. Each customer can have one or more associated facilities. All Bogen Commander databases use the same file names and formats. If more than one PCI database is created, each database must reside in a different location on your hard drive. The files contained within the DATA folder make up the default PCI database. (The default path for the PCI database is C:\Program Files\Bogen\Multicom 2000\ Bogen Commander\Data.) Used to create a new customer folder and/or facility database. Allows the user to change the default or existing names of customer folders or facility databases. Saves the currently displayed database. Delete NOTE: Report Deletes the displayed customer folder or facility database. If the customer folder is deleted, ALL existing facilities associated with that folder are deleted. Enables the user to create a detailed facility report sorted by station number, architectural number, level, day or night administrator. For more details on creating a facility report, refer to section 4.0, Creating a Facility Report. Exit Exits the Bogen Commander program. To create a customer folder, follow the steps below. 1. Select the New option from the File menu, and then Customer from the drop-down menu (see Figure 2-2). 2. A generic customer (Customer X) folder is added to the screen. 3. To rename the customer, highlight the customer name and select the Rename option from the File menu. 4. Type in the associated customer name and press Enter. 2.3 Creating a Facility Database The PCI enables you to create one or more facility databases for each customer folder. The databases contain the information required to program the Multicom 2000 unit and are specific to each unique customer facility, including software version, passwords, night ring characteristics, and settings. NOTE: You can create an unlimited number of facilities per customer; however, how quickly your computer responds will depend on its CPU speed because the more data that is in the PCI database, the slower the application responds when switching facilities. To create a facility database, follow these steps: 1. Select the customer folder associated with the new facility. 2. Select the New option from the File Menu, and then Facility from the drop-down menu. 3. The Multicom Version dialog box (Figure 2-3) appears. Enter _5.00 for the Multicom Version. Then click OK. Figure 2-3: Multicom Version Enter Screen A confirmation dialog box appears (see Figure 2-4). By clicking Yes, the facility database will be permanently set to the Multicom Version # you entered. A generic facility (Facility X) is added below the associated customer folder and the Facility Database Form appears on the screen (see Figure 2-5). 5. To rename the facility, highlight the facility name and select the Rename option from the File menu. 6. Type in the associated facility name and press Enter. 7. Enter the information in each of the Facility Database fields as specified below. Use the Tab or Enter key to move between fields. The database information fields are: Software Version EPROM Identifies the current version of Multicom software. (Note: This field can not be edited and is for display purposes only.) From EEPROM Passwords System DISA Displays the software version identified by the Multicom unit following a download. (Note: This field can not be edited and is for display purposes only.) User-defined four-digit (0-9) field used to enter the setup menu from an administrative telephone. Also used for the PCI to connect to the Multicom unit. NOTE: If the System Password does not match the current Multicom System Password, the connection fails and an Invalid System Password message appears on the screen. User-defined four-digit (0-9) field used for direct inward station access. Security DISA Night Ring Admin Station All Stations Zones Twice A Day Relay Closure 1 and 2 Info User-defined four-digit (0-9) field used to access Multicom through a security DISA line. This feature requires an analog card (MCACB rev 9 or higher). Identifies the specific administrative station that will handle outside line calls received during non-business hours. Outside line calls not answered within 15 seconds during night hours trigger a ringing tone to all or selected stations as defined below. The night ring station must be an administrative station level 7, 8 or 9. A value of 0* is used to remote answer the incoming outside line call. Selecting n/a from the drop-down menu disables the night ring feature. If checked, indicates that all station speakers receive the night ring tone during non-business hours. If unchecked, only the zones specified in the Zones field (see below) receive the tone. Identifies which zones receive the night ring tone when outside line calls are received during non-business hours. A checkmark identifies which zone or zones receive the night ring tone. If the All Stations option is selected, this field does not apply and does not appear. Two times a day, two different switches may be triggered for a set period of time. These switches may be closed primarily for secondary clock control and correction. Twice-a-Day Relay Feature. The Twice-a-Day Relay (P5 pin 4) is activated at the times specified for the associated duration. Chapter 2 Programming the Bogen Commander On Time Indicates the activation time for the associated contact closure. Valid times range from 00:00 to 23:59. The PCI prevents invalid time entries. 11

Duration Schedule TV On Time / Off Time Schedule Indicates the number of seconds associated with the contact closure. Valid durations range from 0 to 59 seconds. The PCI prevents invalid duration values. Designates the specific days associated with the Twice-A-Day Relay. A checkmark indicates that the relay is active on the associated day. Specifies the time at which the TV On or Off code is sent to all remote control units (TMRC) connected to enhanced staff and administrative level stations. Identifies the days associated with the TV On and Off times defined above. A checkmark indicates that the on and off time apply to the associated day. Settings Day Start Night Start This is when the system switches to its Day mode of operation. It identifies the time period for which the day administrative station is active. Telephones with night-only outside line access are prevented from placing outside line calls during this time. Valid times range from 00:00 to 23:58; but must be less than the Night Start time. This is when the system switches to its Night mode of operation. It identifies the time period for which the night administrative station is active. During this time, telephones with the night-only outside line access can place outside line calls. Valid times range from 00:01 to 23:59; but must be larger than the Day Start time. Chapter 2 Programming the Bogen Commander Queue Timeout External Time Tone Emergency Link Station Specifies the maximum amount of time that a staff station can remain on an administrative queue. Valid timeout values range from 1 to 999 minutes. If a staff station remains on an administrative station queue for longer than the timeout, the station is removed from that queue. Indicates which tone, 1-9, is heard when a zone is activated externally through the six available pins on P4 (pin 9 is time zone1.pin 4 is time zone 6). All six zones receive the same tone. NOTE: Tone 9 only applies to version 4.1 and higher. Specifies the station that functions as the emergency link station. The emergency link station can be any administrative station that does not already function as a day or night administrative station or can be any staff or enhanced staff station. If an emergency link, the emergency caller is connected to the speaker, and the telephone rings and displays the emergency caller. If an enhanced staff or staff telephone is specified, the emergency caller is only connected to the speaker. 12

Max Restricted Digits Valid digits range from 7-15. The default number of digits that can be dialed if a station has been assigned for restricted outside line access is 10. Hourly Contact Closure Minute to Trigger Duration in Seconds Time Zone Durations Indicates the minute after the hour at which the Hourly Contact Closure or Hourly Relay (Pin 5 on P5) is activated. Valid values range from 0 to 59. For example, a value of 55 triggers Pin 5 to activate every hour at 55 minutes past the hour. Specifies the amount of time the Hourly Contact Closure or Hourly Relay is active. Pin 5 can be activated for 1 to 59 seconds. Identifies the number of seconds the time tone is active for each time zone (1-8). Valid time ranges are from 1 to 59 seconds. External Relays On Time Off Time Secs Other Options Disable Architectural Dialing Disable Pre-announce Tone Disable Privacy Beep Indicates the activation time for each of the four external relays. Time is entered in 24-hour format. Relays 1 through 4 correspond to pins 9-6 on P5. NOTE: On Time must be less than or equal to Off Time. Indicates the deactivation time for each of the four external relays. Time is entered in 24-hour format. Relays 1 through 4 correspond to pins 9-6 on P5. NOTE: Off Time must be greater than or equal to On Time. Specifies the total number of seconds after Off Time at which each of the four external relays deactivates, enabling Off Time to be programmed to the second. Valid time ranges are from 0 to 59 seconds. NOTE: If On Time equals Off Time, seconds can not be zero (0). Specifies if stations are dialed by station or architectural number. If checked, stations must be dialed by station number. If unchecked, architectural number must be used. If checked, indicates that the pre-announce tone is disabled and will not be heard when connecting to a speaker or prior to a page. If checked, disables the privacy beep. When unchecked, the privacy beep is heard in 16-second intervals during an intercom call. Chapter 2 Programming the Bogen Commander 13

NOTE: If the MCACB analog cards are used, the privacy beep is not heard if talk back has been activated during the previous 16 seconds, preventing the tone from interrupting conversations. Switch Asterisk If unchecked, indicates that an asterisk (*) preceding an architectural number will ring the telephone of the station dialed. The absence of an asterisk causes the architectural number to connect to the station speaker. If checked, the reverse occurs. Dialing Length Select the number of dial digits to use. Select 3-, 4-, 5-, or 6- digit dialing. CPC Pulse The CPC (Calling Party Control) Pulse identifies a disconnect signal. Users select one of three valid values from the dropdown menu. Data From Unit Total Outside Lines Total Media Stations A display-only field. Identifies the total number of outside lines programmed in the database. A display-only field. Identifies the total media stations programmed in the database. 911 Chapter 2 Programming the Bogen Commander Dial Prefix The 911 Dial Prefix is the dialing sequence required to access the PBX connected to Multicom in order to directly dial out emergency 911. Up to 15 dial prefixes, including pauses, can be programmed to access a PBX directly. NOTE: A Pause is represented by a comma (ex. ", " ). When you complete the database information, select the Save option from the File Menu. You can now complete the Station and Schedules information. 2.3.1 Modifying Facility Data To modify an existing facility database, simply select the facility folder, enter the new or updated information, and select the Save option from the File menu. Changes are effective upon upload to the Multicom system. For more information on uploading database information to the Multicom 2000 unit, refer to Section 3.2, Uploading to Multicom 2000. 2.3.2 Deleting Facility Data The Bogen Commander enables you to delete data on a customer or facility level. To delete a customer folder or facility database, follow the steps below. 1. Select/Highlight the customer or facility you wish to delete. 2. Select Delete from the File Menu. The system prompts you to verify the deletion (see Figure 2-6). 3. Select Yes to delete the information, or No to cancel. 14

WARNING: If you select to delete a Customer folder, ALL Facilities associated with that folder are deleted. 2.4 Defining Station Characteristics The Stations Screen (Figure 2-7) enables you to create, review or modify up to 255 stations for each facility database. The numbered stations represent the associated station ports on the Multicom 2000 system. To begin defining station characteristics, identify the customer folder and facility database to define. Below the facility selected, highlight the Stations option. The Stations Screen appears on the right hand column of the Bogen Commander Screen. For each station required, you specify the station level, architectural number, station description, administrative characteristics, outside access digits, page and time zone. Editable fields appear on the bottom portion of the screen. Station Level Indicates the station number 1-255 to configure. Identifies the station level 1-12, as outlined: 0 Out-of-Service 1-3 Staff 4-6 Enhanced Staff 7-9 Administrative 10 Outside Line 11 DISA 12 Media Arch # Specifies the unique three - to six -digit architectural number for all in-service stations. Valid values range from 000 to 899 for 3-digit dialing, 0000 to 8999 for 4-digit dialing, 00000 to 89999 for 5-digit dialing, and 000000 to 899999 for 6-digit dialing. User Field A user-defined field for station descriptions. This field is not used by or stored in the Multicom system. NOTE: When downloading from the Multicom system to a facility database, any information within the User Field is lost. Chapter 2 Programming the Bogen Commander Day Ad / Night Ad Outside Access Page / Time Zones Clear Apply Identifies the day / night administrative station. Day/Night Administrative stations must be defined for station levels 1-6 and 10. For outside line stations, the day / night administrative station can be any staff (1-3), enhanced staff (4-6) or administrative station (7-9) assigned to ring when the outside line calls in. The day / night administrative station will be inactive if the station level is out-of-service (0), administrative (7-9), DISA (11) or media (12). Identifies the type of outside line access permitted for each station type. For more information on outside access values, refer to section 2.4.1, Adding Station Details. Identifies the page and time zones associated with each station. Returns the selected station s values to the system default. Accepts the values entered for the selected station. If any fields contain values not allowed or inconsistent with other fields, the system prompts you to modify those values. 16

2.4.1 Adding Station Details The Bogen Commander enables you to define or modify stations one at a time or in groups. To define station details, select a station number from the Station column on the Station Screen (see Figure 2-7). To define station details for multiple stations simultaneously, select the appropriate station numbers using the left mouse button. See section 2.4.1.2 - Adding a Group of Stations with the Same Parameters. Figure 2-8: Current Station Settings To define station details on the Stations screen, follow the steps below. You can move between fields using the mouse, or Tab key. 1. Select the station number or numbers to define from the Station column (see Figure 2-7). The current station settings appear on the lower portion of the screen (see Figure 2-8). 2. Move to the Level field and select the appropriate level (0-12) for the associated station or stations. 3. If the station level is 1-6 or 10 (see Section 2.4, Defining Station Characteristics for Level definitions), move to the Day Ad and Night Ad fields to select an Architectural Number from the drop-down menu. The Architectural Numbers are associated with previously defined administrative stations. 4 Move to the Arch # field and type the Architectural Number for that station. 5. (optional) Move to the User field. You can enter up to 20 alphanumeric characters. 7. Move to the Page and Time Zone fields. Select the appropriate zones for the associated station. 8. When all information is specified, selected or checked, click on the Apply button. The station information will be reflected on the top of the Stations Screen. 18

2.4.1.2 Adding a Group of Stations with the Same Parameters To program a group of stations or to copy the same settings into a group of stations, follow these steps (Figure 2-9): In the station column, place the mouse cursor in the Station Field (or cell) for the first station of the group and drag down to the last station of the group. Release the mouse button. The stations selected will then be highlighted (see Figure 2-9). Enter or change the parameters if needed, but not the Arch number, and press Apply. A new window, Assign Arch # will open prompting you for each Station Number. (see Figure 2-10) NOTE: To group stations that are not in sequential order, use the CTL Key and left mouse button to highlight the desired station numbers. Enter the Architectural number for the station number displayed and click OK or press the Enter key on the keyborad. You will then be prompted to enter the next station and repeat the process up to the last station highlighted in the group. Figure 2-10: Assign Arch # 2.4.2 Modifying Station Details To modify existing station details, simply select the station number or numbers and follow the steps outlined in Section 2.4.1, Adding Station Details. Changes are effective upon upload to the Multicom system. For more information on uploading database information to the Multicom 2000 unit, refer to Section 3.2, Uploading to Multicom 2000. Chapter 2 Programming the Bogen Commander 2.4.3 Deleting Station Details The Bogen Commander enables you to restore stations to the default values. To delete station details, restoring the default values for that station, follow the steps below. 1. Select the station number or numbers from the Station column (see Figure 2-7). The current station settings appear on the lower portion of the screen (see Figure 2-8). 2. Select the Clear Button (see Figure 2-8). The station values are cleared. NOTE: Even if all station values are cleared, there must be at least one level 9 station. 20

2.5 Defining Schedule Details The Schedules Screen enables you to add, modify or review up to eight (8) bell schedules for the Multicom system. Specify the activation time, tone, and zones for each schedule (see Figure 2-11). The Schedule Details identify all currently programmed time events for the schedule number indicated. Figure 2-11: Schedule Details Screen Schedule No. Activate Tone Identifies the schedule number (1-8) to program. Specifies the time the event will occur. Indicates which of the nine available tones will sound when the time event occurs. Tones 1 through 8 are unique tones. Tone 9 is audio program source #2. Chapter 2 Programming the Bogen Commander 21

Zones Add Specifies which of the eight (8) available zones receive the tone when the time event occurs. Any combination or all of the eight (8) zones can be selected. The minimum number is one. Used to create a time event for the current schedule. When the Add option is selected, the Add Detail Screen is displayed (see Figure 2-12). OK- Accepts the programmed or modified time event and closes the Add Details Screen. Cancel - Exits the Add Detail Screen without accepting time event additions or modifications. Modify Remove Daily Schedules Used to change a previously programmed time event. The option is only active when a previously programmed time event is highlighted on the Schedule Details Screen (see Figure 2-13). Deletes a previously programmed time event from the schedule list. The option is only active when a previously programmed time event is highlighted on the Schedule Details Screen. Only one time event can be deleted at a time. Identifies which schedule (1-8) is active for each day of the week. A value of zero indicates that a schedule is not active for that day (see Figure 2-11). 2.5.1 Adding Schedule Details Chapter 2 Programming the Bogen Commander To program one or more bell schedules using the PCI, follow the steps below. You can move between fields using the mouse or Tab key. 1. Identify the customer folder and facility database to program. Below the facility selected, highlight the Schedules option. The Schedule Details Screen appears on the right hand column of the Bogen Commander Screen. 2. Select a schedule number (1-8) using the Schedule No. drop-down menu. 3. Select the Add option. The Add Details box appears on the screen (see Figure 2-12). Figure 2-12: Add Details Screen 4. Type a valid 24-hour format activation time. Valid times range from 00:00 to 23:59. 5. Select a Tone from the drop-down menu. 6. Select one or more zones associated with the now programmed schedule. A minimum of one zone must be checked. 7. Select OK to accept the schedule details. The new time event appears on the Schedule Details Screen (see Figure 2-11). 22

2.5.1.1 Setting Daily Schedules The Bogen Commander enables you to identify which of the eight (8) schedules is active on each day of the week. For each day, only one schedule can be active. To specify which schedule is associated with each day of the week, follow the steps below. Use the mouse or Tab key to move between Daily Schedule fields. 1. Select a day, Sunday through Saturday. 2. Click on the drop-down arrow and select a schedule 1 through 8. NOTE: If you select an undefined schedule, a bell schedule will not occur on that day. A value of zero also indicates that a schedule is not active for that day. 3. Continue with steps 1 and 2 until all daily schedules are assigned. 2.5.2 Modifying Schedule Details To modify one or more bell schedules using the PCI, follow the steps below. Move between fields using the mouse or Tab key. 1. Follow steps 1and 2 from section 2.5.1, Adding Schedule Details. 2. Select a Schedule No. from the drop-down menu to display the associated schedule details. 3. Select a time event from the Schedule Details screen. 4. Select the Modify option. The Modify Details box appears on the screen (see Figure 2-13). Figure 2-13: Modify Details Screen 5. Move to the appropriate field and type, select or check the updated information as described in section 2.5.1, Adding Schedule Details. 6. When all modifications have been made, select OK to accept the revised schedule details. The new time event appears on the Schedule Details Screen (see Figure 2-11). 2.5.3 Deleting Schedule Details The Bogen Commander enables you to delete specific activation times and tones within a schedule. You can only delete one time event at a time. To delete a complete schedule, follow the steps below until all entries are deleted for the associated schedule. 1. Follow steps 1 through 3 from section 2.5.2, Modifying Schedule Details. 2. Select the Remove option. The details associated with the time event selected are deleted. NOTE: The Bogen Commander does not prompt you to verify the removal of a time event. Chapter 2 Programming the Bogen Commander 23

2.6 Maintaining Multiple Databases Bogen Commander maintains the original database in a folder called Data, which is located within the Bogen Commander folder. To create additional database(s): 1. Run Bogen Commander, select File and select Open Database. A Browse for Folder window will open (see Figure 2-14). 2. To create the new folder, go to C:\Program Files\Bogen\Multicom 2000\Bogen Comander\and click on New Folder. The Create New Folder window will open. Type in a name for the new folder. (see Figure 2-15) 3. When you Click OK, your new database will appear in the Browse for Folder window (see Figure 2-16). Click OK in this window and you will be asked if you want to create a new database (see Figure 2-17). See Chapter 2.3 Creating a Facility Database to create new facilities within the database. C h a p t e r T h r e e 3 Using System Tools The Bogen Commander provides a variety of system tools to test the Multicom 2000 system. All Tools options require a connection to the Multicom system. Figure 3-1: Tools Menu The Tools option fields are: Connect to Multicom Disconnect from Multicom Diagnostics Upload to Multicom Establishes a connection with the Multicom 2000 system. Terminates a connection with the Multicom 2000 system. Initiates Multicom systems functions and cards tests. Sends facility database information from the PCI to the Multicom system. Chapter 3 Using System Tools Download from Multicom Retrieves information currently programmed in the Multicom system and loads it into the PCI. 25

3.1 Connecting to Multicom 2000 To establish a connection with the Multicom system, select the Connect to Multicom option from the Tools drop-down menu. See Figure 3-1. The system will prompt you to select the serial port you will be using on your PC. Usually COM1 or COM2 is used but up to COM8 is available. See Figure 3-2. Select the COM port and press OK to begin connecting. The Bogen Commander will begin to communicate with Multicom 2000 using 19.2 kbps Baud rate. If it doesn t connect, it will reduce the BAUD rate and try again on the same COM port It is recommended that Multicom 2000 be set at 19.2 kbps for faster communication. Figure 3-2: Connect to Multicom Screen A serial port connection or direct connection from a PC to Multicom 2000 can be made using an RS232 null modem cable. The cable connects directly from the PC serial port to the Multicom 2000 COM1 port, a 9-pin male connector on the backplane. The Bogen Commander can also be used to communicate with Multicom 2000 through the LAN. (A Serial to Ethernet Adapter or a similar device is required for this.) The LAN connects to the Serial to Ethernet Adapter and the serial port of the adapter connects to the Multicom serial port. A COM port redirect program, usually supplied with the Serial to Ethernet Adapter, will setup a virtual COM port for the adapter. This COM port, which represents the adapter, will be the same COM port that the Bogen Commander will be set to access. When setting up the Serial to Ethernet Adapter, refer to the manufacturer s instructions. Chapter 3 Using System Tools Password In order to connect to the Multicom unit, the system password on the facility screen must match the current system password programmed in the Multicom system. 26

3.2 Uploading to Multicom 2000 The PCI enables you to upload programmed facility information to the Multicom unit. To upload database information, follow the steps below. 1. Select the facility associated with the data to upload. The facility name will be highlighted on the screen. 2. Select the Tools option from the Bogen Commander screen. A drop-down menu appears on the screen (see Figure 3-1). NOTE: The PCI must be connected to the Multicom unit prior to uploading facility database information. For details on connecting to Multicom, refer to section 3.1, Connecting to Multicom 2000. 3. Select the Upload to Multicom option. 3.3 Downloading from Multicom 2000 The Bogen Commander enables you to download previously programmed information from the Multicom unit into the PCI. The data is downloaded to a specific facility database within the Bogen Commander. To download the facility database information, select the Download from Multicom option from the Tools menu. 1. Select the facility associated with the data to upload. The facility name will be highlighted on the screen. 2. Select the Tools option from the Bogen Commander screen. A drop-down menu appears on the screen (see Figure 3-1). NOTE: The PCI must be connected to the Multicom unit prior to downloading facility database information. For details on connecting to Multicom, refer to Section 3.1, Connecting to Multicom 2000. 3. Select the Download from Multicom option (see Figure 3-1). 3.4 Running Diagnostic Tests Bogen Commander diagnostic tests are used to validate system functions and cards installed in the Multicom 2000. System functions tested include the Address Write, Clock and Memory tests. Three types of system cards are also checked. 1. Select the facility associated with the data to upload. The facility name will be highlighted on the screen. 2. Select the Tools option from the Bogen Commander screen. A drop-down menu appears on the screen (see Figure 3-1). 3. Select the Diagnostics option (see Figure 3-1). Chapter 3 Using System Tools 27

3.4.1 System Tests Address Write Test The address write test writes data to ascending addresses throughout the random access memory (RAM) then reads and compares the data. If the data does not match, an error results. When all addresses have been verified, the system resets and returns to the diagnostics. Clock Test The clock test verifies that the system clock is running by saving the current seconds, delaying more than one second, and comparing current time to saved time. The test also sets the clock to various times throughout the week and day and compares the set time to the original value. Memory Tests Memory tests include an EEPROM, EPROM and RAM check. EEPROM Check EPROM Check RAM Check The EEPROM is tested by writing a value to a specific location in EEPROM memory. This location is then read and the value is compared. If the values do not match, the test fails. The EPROM is tested by performing a CRC (Cycle Redundancy Check) on the code within the EPROM. If the CRC matches the hard coded value, the test passes. The RAM is tested by writing values to RAM and then reading them back. If any values do not match, an error is returned. When the complete set of memory tests are completed, the system resets. 3.4.2 System Card Checks Diagnostics checks the Analog, Station and Telephone (TELCO) cards within the system. NOTE: To test any or all of the cards, an analog card must reside in the first slot of the Multicom unit and a speaker must be connected to the first station. NOTE: The Station Card test can also be used to see if the annunciator and ground leads are shorted together. Analog Card Test The analog card test sends tones over the speaker of the first defined station. If the tone is not heard, the analog card is defective and must be replaced. Station Card Test The station card test verifies that none of the telephones connected to the stations is off-hook. If a station is off-hook, the off-hook location is displayed on the screen. Diagnostics also checks the optocouplers. The audio busses are tested by sending a tone over each bus. A speaker must be connected to station 001. If any of the tests fail, the card is defective and must be replaced. Telephone Card Test The telephone card test verifies the ring for each of the first eight (8) lines on the telephone card. If the ring is not detected,an error message is displayed. The DTMFreceivers and audio busses are also checked. Use a phone to ring into Multicom on the proper line, then click Proceed. If the ring is not detected, an error message is displayed. Click Proceed again to test the next line. The audio busses are tested by sending a tone over each bus. A speaker must be connected to station 001. The lines are tested in a similar manner. If any of the card tests fail, that card is defective and must be replaced. 3.4.3 Diagnostics Screen Fields The following fields are on the Diagnostics Screen (see Figure 3-3). Version Clock Set Clock Identifies the Multicom software version. Displays the current Multicom time. This field is updated as the Multicom time clock changes. This field is used to set the time and day in the Multicom system. The current PC time and day is displayed. Set Baud Rate Changes the Multicom s serial port baud rate. NOTE: This feature is not available when using a modem connection. Reset System This button can be used to restart the Multicom if desired. Card Information This shows what cards are installed in which slots (1-24) in the system. The first slot is defaulted to MICRO and cannot be tested. To test a card, select a slot and click on Test Card. You can only test one card at a time. System Tests To run a system test, select a test and click on Run Test(s). Unlike Card Tests, System Tests can be selected individually or in multiple combinations. Chapter 3 Using System Tools 30

C h a p t e r F o u r 4 Select the desired sort criteria. Select the Save Report option to create a report file, or Print Report option to create a hard copy printout. NOTE: The database printout is not a secure document. All information entered into the database, including passwords, appears on the printed copy. Creating a Facility Report The Bogen Commander enables you to print a file or hard copy report of each customer facility database, including passwords. The detailed reports can be sorted by station number, architectural number, level, day or day/night administrator stations. To create a facility report, select the desired facility on the Bogen Commander screen. The facility name will be highlighted. From the File menu, select the report option. The Create Facility Report box appears on the screen (see Figure 4-1).
