1 Introduction 1.1 Validity This document applies to the operation of the SMAVIA Viewer software. 2 General Notes 2.1 Appropriate Use SMAVIA Viewer is a free-of-charge viewing software for the independent evaluation of the backups made by SMAVIA appliances and by Dallmeier recording systems of the 3 rd and 4 th generation. 2.2 Features SMAVIA Viewer is characterized by the following functions and features: Playback and evaluation of backups Available as installable and portable version Full HDTV with 16:9 display format Extensive search functions Compatible with SMAVIA Appliances Compatible with recording systems of generation 4 Compatible with recording systems of generation 3 Display of data overlays User interface in German, English, Spanish, French and Italian 2.3 Warranty The terms and conditions valid at the signing of the contract shall apply. www.dallmeier.com 5

3 User Interface After the start of the program the user interface is displayed: Menu bar Single split Performance monitor Info Fig. 3-1 Info window Control panel 3.1 Info Window The Info window displays information about recorder, camera, resolution etc. in the Control panel depending on the mode permanently. In addition, tooltips can be displayed with extended information about the respective info windows. Fig. 3-2 Example tooltip information window ¾¾Move the mouse pointer over the required info field. 3.3 System information The About dialog provides detailled information about the system, for example about the processor (CPU), graphic card (GPU), and random access memory (RAM). This information can be exportet into a text file and saved to the harddisk. This data can be especially helpful in case you need to contact customer support. ¾¾Open the dialog via? > About. Fig. 3-6 ¾¾Click the Save info button. ¾¾Choose an appropriate location for the text file, enter a file name and save. ¾¾Click OK, to close the dialog. The file can be opened with a text editor of your choosing. www.dallmeier.com 8

4 Operation 4.1 Playback Playback mode allows to play a recorded track in the active split. In addition, various search functions are available for the evaluation of the recording. ¾¾Acitvate Action > Open > Local Track in the menu bar. ¾¾Choose the necessary file using the explorer. ¾¾Confirm with Open. The selected track is shown in the active split. Fig. 4-1 ¾¾Control the playback with the buttons of the playback control (see Playback Control on page 7). ¾¾Use the Track slider button in order to navigate quickly in the track. ¾¾Use search functions for accurate evaluation (see below) if required. Adjustment Of Playback Speeds The playback speeds of the modes Forward, Fast forward, Reverse and Fast reverse can be finely adjusted with sliders or the mouse wheel. ¾¾Enable the playback of the required track as described above. ¾¾Click the button of the required playback mode. About the appropriate button a slider for adjusting the speed is displayed. ¾¾Fit the respective speeds with the slider (upwards: faster; down: slow). or ¾¾Move the mouse wheel up or down, when the slider above the corresponding buttons is displayed. After stopping a playback mode, the individual adjustment of the speed reverts. 4.2 Search Functions The extensive search functions allow accurate evaluations of recordings. 4.2.1 Simple Search The Simple search allows the direct jump to a specific point in time. ¾¾Enable the playback mode of the required track as described above. ¾¾Click the Search button. ¾¾Select the Simple search tab in the control panel for the search functions. Fig. 4-4 ¾¾Select the required date with the displayed calendar. ¾¾Enter the Time using the keyboard or using the arrow buttons. ¾¾Click the Set date/time button. ¾¾Export or print the image as described in section Image Export on page 19 if required. ¾¾Use the playback controls in order to navigate through the track if required. ¾¾Repeat the search in order to evaluate additional images of the track if required. ¾¾Click the Search button in order to exit the search function and to switch in the playback mode. 4.2.2 Fast Search The Fast search search allows to search in specific time intervals (Days, Hours, Minutes, Seconds in increments of 1 / 5 / 10 / 30) before and after a specific starting position. ¾¾Enable the playback mode of the required track as described above. ¾¾Set the required position with the Track slider in the track or select a specific point in time via the Determine point in time split context menu (Playback > Set point in time). ¾¾Click the Search button. ¾¾Select the Fast search tab in the control panel for the search functions. One step forward Fig. 4-5 One step backward ¾¾Select the required Time unit. ¾¾Select the required Step unit. ¾¾Click the One step forward button in order to skip forward the entered time interval in the track. ¾¾Click the One step backward button in order to skip backward the entered time interval in the track. The image captured at the relevant point in time will be displayed. ¾¾Export or print the image as described in section Image Export on page 19 if required. ¾¾Use the playback controls in order to navigate through the track if required. ¾¾Repeat the search in order to evaluate additional images of the track if required. ¾¾Click the Search button in order to exit the search function and to switch in the playback mode. www.dallmeier.com 11

4.2.3 Index Search The Index search displays up to ten events (for example recordings according to image compares or index marks for contact inputs) before and after a specified starting position. ¾¾Enable the playback mode of the required track as described above. ¾¾Set the required position with the Track slider in the track or select a specific point in time via the Determine point in time split context menu (Playback > Set point in time). ¾¾Click the Search button. ¾¾Select the Index search tab in the control panel for the search functions. The image to the index entry is displayed. ¾¾Export or print the image as described in section Image Export on page 19 if required. ¾¾Use the playback controls in order to navigate to the index entry in the track if required. ¾¾Click the Next index button in order to step an index entry forward. ¾¾Click the Last index button in order to step an index entry backward. ¾¾Click the Search button in order to exit the search function and to switch in the playback mode. www.dallmeier.com 12

5 Zoom Functions The zoom function allows you to zoom with the mouse wheel just in a split. In addition, it is also possible with the digital zoom in the control panel to enlarge and downsize image sections. In the control panel also display optimizations can be made. The settings and image adjustments affect only the display on the monitor, not the recording. 5.1 Zoom In Split When zoomed with the mouse wheel in a split, there is a small additional zoom window where the overview screen and the selected area is displayed. It is possible to move the yellow frame in the additional zoom window with the mouse or scroll to navigate in the image. In addition, the additional zoom window can be any position with drag and drop in the split. ¾¾Enable the required recording as described above. The additional zoom window is automatically displayed in the split right down. Fig. 5-2 ¾¾Move the mouse wheel up or down in order to zoom in or to zoom out the desired image detail. ¾¾Move the yellow marker in the additional zoom window by drag and drop, to shift the image in the split quickly. ¾¾Move by drag and drop the additional zoom window to the desired location in the split if required. ¾¾Zoom the image completely out in order to disable the additional zoom window. 5.2 Control Panel Digital Zoom This function allows the digital enlargement / reduction of the image section via the control panel. In addition, contrast and color can be adjusted automatically. The image can also be flipped vertically or horizontally. 5.2.1 Zoom Control ¾¾Enable the required camera. ¾¾Click the Configuration button in the control panel. ¾¾Select the DigitalZoom tab. ¾¾Click the Zoom in / Zoom out buttons in order to reduce / to enlarge the image section. or ¾¾Scroll with the mouse wheel in the Zoom window up and down to zoom in and out. ¾¾Move the yellow image section in the Zoom window with the Control buttons. or ¾¾Move the yellow image section in the Zoom window by drag and drop with holding down the left mouse button. ¾¾Click the Entire image button in order to return to the full image. If the digital zoom in the control panel is activated the additional zoom window in the split will be displayed at the same time: Fig. 5-3 ¾¾Click the Configuration button in order to close the DigitalZoom control panel again. 5.2.2 Display Optimizations The following functions for display optimization are in the DigitalZoom control panel available: Keep scaling on window change If this option is enabled the screen will be scaled pixel-accurate. This scaling in the split window is preserved even when on activation of new split views (i.e. window changes). Vertical Flip Horizontal Flip The Vertical Flip function allows a vertical mirroring of the display, the Horizontal Flip function a horizontal mirroring of the display. Rotation Right Rotation Left With the Rotation Right / Rotation Left buttons the display can be rotated in either direction. www.dallmeier.com 15

Contrast (automatically) Color (automatically) The Contrast (automatically) / Color (automatically) buttons optimize the display of each function. Automatical wizard The Automatic wizard function allows automatic display optimization in all areas. Demo mode If the Demo mode is enabled display optimizations are performed first in the right half of the display. Default/Reset all With the Default/reset all button all display optimizations can be reset to the default settings. ¾¾Make the required settings for display optimization. ¾¾Click the Configuration button in order to close the DigitalZoom control panel again. www.dallmeier.com 16

6 Picture Processing The Picture processing function allows to customize the brightness, contrast and color. In addition, different filter functions allows an image optimization. The display settings are saved for each camera, but affect only the display on the monitor, not the recording on the track. 6.1 Filter functions & Picture processing ¾¾Activate the required local track. ¾¾Click the Configuration button. ¾¾Select the Picture processing tab. Button Configuration Fig. 6-1 Deblock filter The Deblock filter reduces block noise when video compression and improves the quality of the video image but slows down encoding. Use the filter only if the original image has visible block artifacts. Dering filter The Dering filter reduces ring types artifacts and can thus improve the video image, but slows down encoding. Use the filter only if the original image has visible ring artifacts. Sharpen filter Sharpen slider With this filter the sharpness can be increased. After enabling the feature, the strength of the sharpening is adjusted with the sharpness slider. Contrast With the slider image contrast can be adjusted. Brightness With the slider image brightness can be regulated. www.dallmeier.com 17

Color The colors of the image can be adjusted with this slider. Digital Noise Reduction The DNR function allows reducing digital noise in four stages with the slider. Deinterlacing The Display button controls the deinterlacing. Thus, compression artifacts can be reduced when the encoding (for example, images with a lot of movement). The image display can be adjusted in four stages: normal deinterlaced mode, extended deinterlaced mode, field mode, frame mode. Default/Reset all With the Default/Reset all button all the individual settings are reset to their default values. ¾¾Make the required settings. ¾¾Click the Configuration button in order to close the Picture processing control panel. www.dallmeier.com 18

7 Image Export The image export functions are only available at a playback of a track. 7.1 Export An Image The function allows to save single images locally or export them to an external storage device. ¾¾Activate the playback mode of the required camera as described above. ¾¾Select with the search functions the required image. ¾¾Click the Picture processing button. The control panel for the image export is displayed. Fig. 7-1 Picture processing button Export this picture ¾¾Click the Export this picture button. The Export/Print dialog is displayed. Fig. 7-2 ¾¾Select the required option (see below). ¾¾Click OK. The Save as dialog in the Windows Explorer is displayed. ¾¾Enter a name for the image. ¾¾Select a storage medium and / or a directory if required. ¾¾Click Save. www.dallmeier.com 19

The image will be exported. The Modified (WYSWG) option allows to print the image with all the individual image changes as it is displayed on the screen. With the Original option the unaltered original image is printed as it is stored in the track. 7.2 Print An Image Print this picture ¾¾Activate the playback mode of the required camera as described above. ¾¾Select with the search functions the required image. ¾¾Click the Picture processing button. ¾¾Click the Print this image button. The Export/Print dialog is displayed. Fig. 7-3 ¾¾Select the required option (see below). ¾¾Click OK. The Windows-dialog Print is displayed. ¾¾Select the required printer. ¾¾Confirm with OK. The Modified (WYSWG) option allows to print the image with all the individual image changes as it is displayed on the screen.
