Logging into Cascade Server Because Cascade Server is a web based content management system (CMS), you are able to access and update your website from anywhere as long as you have a computer with internet access. Open a browser (e.g. Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, etc.). Navigate to https://cascade.udmercy.edu and log in using your TitanConnect credentials. 3
Dashboard After you successfully log into Cascade Server, you will see the Dashboard screen. Main Navigation This blue bar at the top of the webpage is the standard navigation that you will see on every page. Cascade o Search Options: Displays additional options to further refine a search within the CMS. o Publisher: Allows users to check the status of items currently being published. o Preferences: Contains user preferences to customize the CMS to a user s specific needs. Home: Returns user to the dashboard screen. New: Allows users to create new assets (web pages, images, etc.) for the website. History: Allows users to view a history of their recent actions. Tools: Cascade allows for multiple images to be uploaded at a single time via the Zip archive importer. Search Field Located in the upper right hand corner of the page, this can help find assets easier. 4
Left hand Navigation/Asset Listing Contains the folder structure of the department. Use this to navigate through the system by clicking on folders, pages and files. 5
Pages Previewing a Page The CMS offers the ability to preview a page before it is visible to a live audience. The preview is exactly how the page will look when it is published to the web server (i.e. your live website). To preview a page: In the left hand file listing, browse to: Base Folder > Your Department. [The path to your department may vary depending on where it is located in the file structure (i.e. Academics, Services, etc.).] Click on the page you would like to preview. 6
Creating a Page Select the directory that you would like your new pages to be located. Click on the New tab. Select your page template. Note: Your page template may vary by department. Enter a Display Name (displayed in menus), a Title (displayed at the top of your page), and content for the body of your page. 7
Updating a Page To update an existing page, view the page you want to edit. Click on the Edit tab, located above the page preview. Make changes to the content or add new content. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. 8
Publish the page by clicking on the Publish tab and Submit button. Note: In order for the changes to be viewable to the public, the pages, folders and files that have been modified must be published. Copying a Page View the page you want to copy. Click on the Copy tab, located above the page preview. 9
Rename the page by updating the System Name field. If you need to move the new page to a different folder, you can edit the Parent Folder. Click the Submit button. 10
Moving/Renaming a Page Click on the Move/Rename link, located in the blue bar below the New Page title. Click on the Parent Folder field to open a folder chooser window. Click on the desired parent folder and click the Confirm button. 11
Click the Submit button. Restoring an Older Version of a Page Select the current version of the page that you would like to restore. Click on More and Versions. 12
Select the page that you would like to restore. Click Activate. 13
Editor Interface Linking to a Webpage or Document Open the page where you would like to insert the link and highlight the text that you would like the link to display. Next, click on the Insert/Edit Link button. If you would like to link to a webpage or document within your department, you may select Internal and the browse icon to locate the webpage or document. 14
If the link is external to your department, you may select External and enter the address. If you would like the page to open up in a new browser window, select New Window. You may also leave the default, Same Window, to open the link in the current page. Click Update to insert your link. 15
Removing a Hyperlink Highlight the link that you would like to remove. Click on the Unlink button. Inserting a Picture Place your curser in the location that you would like your picture inserted. Click on the Insert/Edit Image icon. 16
Locate the photo by clicking on the browse icon. Select the photo in the left navigation menu and click Confirm. 17
Enter Alternate Text to describe the picture. Finally, click the Insert button. Display Names and Titles Folders The left navigation bar displays all indexed folders. 18
To index a folder, select the folder. Click on the Edit tab, located above the page preview, and check Include when indexing. On the index page, the Display Name will be displayed on the navigation bar (left) and in the breadcrumbs (top). 19
The Display Name may be modified on the folder s edit tab, just above the Include when indexing option. Click Submit to save changes. Click the Publish tab and Submit button to make your changes visible online. 20
Pages To change the Display Name and Title of a page, click on the page in your navigation menu and select Edit. Modify the Display Name and/or the Title. Click Submit to save your work. 21
Click the Publish tab and Submit button to make your changes visible online. Uploading Files (i.e. Pictures, Documents, etc.) Uploading One File Select the directory that you would like your new file to be located. Click on the New tab. Under Default, select File. 22
Click Choose File and locate the file on your computer. Click on Submit on the bottom of your page. 23
Click on Publish just above your file preview. Click the Submit button to publish your file. 24
Uploading Multiple Files Select the files that you would like to upload. Right click the files. Select Send to and Compressed (zipped) folder from the dropdown menu. A zip file will be created. 25
Select a folder for your files. Click on Tools and Zip Archive. Click on Choose File and locate your zip file. Click the Submit button. 26
Deleting an Asset (Page, File or Folder) Warning: Deleting and un publishing a page or file will permanently remove the page or file from Cascade and the UDM web server. This may produce undesired results such as broken links on both published pages and other departmental websites that may be linking to the page. Browse to the asset you want to delete. Click on the More tab and the Delete link. If there are any internally linked pages, a 'Relationships' area will appear above the submit button. This means the listed pages could potentially contain broken links if the page you are about to delete is unpublished. 27
Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. Restoring a Deleted Item Items in the recycling bin will be kept for 15 days. Under Quick Links, select Recycle Bin. Select the restore icon next to the item that you would like to restore. 28
