ESI[tronic] newsletter 2016/3 New KTS generation KTS 560 / KTS 590 SEN Highlights of the new KTS generation include the support of new vehicle interfaces based on an ethernet connection as well as the possibility to use different vehicle interfaces at the same time. This allows an even faster diagnosis with ESI[tronic] 2.0. The possibility of using vehicle manufacturer portals for reprogramming -PassThru- was enhanced further. Apart from vehicle communication, voltage, resistance and current can be measured easily and efficiently. Furthermore, the KTS 590 is equipped with a two-channel oscilloscope that allows to indicate and directly analyze voltage and current. All of a vehicle s signals from sensors and actuators can be measured using the KTS 590 or KTS 560. In addition to USB 2.0, powerful Bluetooth hardware is built in to allow mobile working with a Windowsbased PC. Many new 2016/3 highlights in ECU diagnosis and SIS instructions. ESI[tronic] Truck News 2016/3 The tab "System/OBD" in the vehicle selection window has been renamed to "System/manufacturer" see image on next page. From 2016/3, the Vehicle configurator is not just accessible via the vehicle type selection but also via the tab "System/manufacturer" in the vehicle selection window see images. Truck: Truck World magazine to all truck customers All truck customers will with 2016/2 also receive the 8 page Truck World. Truck world describes new developments in quality spare parts and diagnostics. Truck world are delivered in English. Other customer interested can get this issue of Truck World by sending mail to: ESItruck@tss-portal.com Many new functions in ESI[tronic] 2016/3: ESI[tronic] Tickets enhancements The ESI[tronic] Ticket is the simplest and fastest way to communicate directly with our engineering teams. It enables to report any unexpected event with its full details. To that effect, log files should always be included! With these log files we can replicate any of these situations, which greatly speeds-up the analysis and resolution processes. It also enables users to suggest that a change or a further improvement is made to the ESI[tronic] 2.0 software. The ESI[tronic] Tickets will then also be forwarded to our Marketing teams. From 2016/3, the ESI[tronic] Ticket system is getting even simpler: Tickets can be directly sent from the ESI[tronic] 2.0 software itself, they do not have to be sent by an own email account any more. The only requirement is that the ESI[tronic] 2.0 software is connected to the internet and that an email address is shared so we are able to respond directly. Features such as saving the ESI[tronic] Ticket to the PC or printing the ESI[tronic] Ticket remain available in case users want to keep trace of the ESI[tronic] Tickets that they have sent.
Simplify ESI Online downloads from 2017 With the launch of ESI[tronic] 2.0 version 2016/2, the start-up procedure of ESI[tronic] and KTS has become much easier. Since then the user is guided through the linked steps of the installation, licensing and KTS configuration. Further significant enhancements will be introduced in the first quarter of 2017. Among other features, we will release the new ESI[tronic] 2.0 online updates. From the first quarter on, (Expected from Version 2017/2) all ESI[tronic] 2.0 updates including ESI[tronic] Truck and ESI[tronic] Bike can be performed easily and conveniently by using online downloads. DVDs are no longer required for installation. The online updates will be performed using the new Diagnostics Download Manager (DDM). The customer is able to choose between two download variants: ECU Diagnosis intermediate updates (SD) Main and intermediate updates for all ESI[tronic] information types Important: The new DDM will no longer support Windows XP, and the support of ESI[tronic] 2.0 for Windows XP will be terminated at the end of 2017 (Microsoft already stopped supporting Windows XP in 2015). (XP users can still in 2017 use ESI 2.0, but without intermediate updates) The updates will automatically be downloaded in the background to ensure the daily work in the workshop is not disturbed. The installation can be made when best suitable, ensuring that ESI[tronic] 2.0 always remains up to date. Read and Delete fault codes in same window Deleting fault codes is now possible in the same window as you read fault codes. This is another feature that saves time and optimizes your daily operations. A Delete button is now available which enables the deletion of fault codes for the respective ECU. Note: The Instructions button was removed and replaced by direct links to SIS which are placed on the fault code description.
Backup of Flight recorder data ESI[tronic] users are often not aware of the flight recorder function which is located at the live data Actual values. After selecting up to 8 live data parameters and pressing the Time profile button the selected parameters can be graphed and monitored for example when performing road tests. The flight recorder function significantly supports the troubleshooting of intermittent faults. While driving data can be recorded, saved and analyzed at a later point - see image. Within the third quarter of 2016 an additional feature is being introduced to ensure that the recorded data would not be lost in case of unexpected events such as turning off the engine, disconnecting the KTS etc. In such cases the user will be proposed to save the recorded data before leaving the flight recorder function. Backup of Protocol data As protocol data contain all the customer and vehicle history this data is essential to workshops. For this reason we introduced a Save and Restore function which allows protocol data to easily be archived and restored. All Protocol, Maintenance Schedule and Recordings data can now be saved to a USB memory stick, an external hard drive or any other memory device. Whether needed for regular backups or when changing your PC, just select the function by clicking on the button in the top-right corner - see image - and choose your desired save or restore location. Systems lists search filters To save time searching through long systems lists filters have been introduced in various Infotypes of ESI[tronic] 2.0 e.g. ECU Diagnosis. A new button enables the systems to be sorted alphabetically or by system type. Additionally, system names can be directly typed in the search box. Convenient tool management: You can now conveniently manage from one place all TPAs which are used in your workshop or within your organization, regardless of which email addresses were used during the registration or whether an additional TPA should be registered. Support for KTS 520 and KTS 550 firmware updates ends KTS 520 and KTS 550 was produced untill 2006, and our obligation for spare parts ended in 2013. The electronic components now more than 10 years old, will in some cases not be able to be updated with new Firmware. With these failures the workshop must upgrade to a newer KTS version. Windows 10 Support ESI[tronic] 2.0 2016/3 is now fully supporting Windows 10 (on new PCs). Please note that with PCs that are upgraded from Windows 7 /8 to Windows 10, some further steps may be needed for relicensing your ESI[tronic] contract and re-setting-up your Bluetooth connection. ESI[tronic] News 2016/3 Installation instructions: Important rules that apply to the ESI/SD update process: ALWAYS make a new reboot of the PC before updating. Sometimes Windows keeps some dll-files open which will prevent the update process from writing all files to the hard drive and end up with a faulty installation that needs to be deleted. If a faulty installation has occurred, you MUST delete ESI from the setup program and perform a new installation. Make sure no ANTIVIRUS is running. In some cases, the antivirus will prevent overwriting of certain system files, which are needed for the update. Do NOT connect the USB cable to KTS 540/560/570/590 modules before or during an update. Firmware update is not performed during the update. KTS firmware is updated first time you start SD after an update. Connecting the USB during an update may result in a faulty DDC configuration. Install/update ESI before any other programs such as CompacSoft[plus] ESI[tronic] is the master and needs to be updated before any other program.
