1 ESI[tronic] newsletter 2017/1 Highlights ESI[tronic] 2.0 vehicle coverage Passenger car: 520 new and updated systems for 57 brands were newly developed. SEN The highlights in this update are: 1. 2 Simplify ESI Online downloads from 2017 From the first quarter on, all ESI[tronic] 2.0 updates including can be performed easily and conveniently by using online downloads. DVDs are no longer required for installation. The online updates will be performed using the new Diagnostics Download Manager (DDM). The customer is able to choose between two download variants: ECU Diagnosis intermediate updates (SD) Main and intermediate updates for all ESI[tronic] information types Important: The new DDM will no longer support Windows XP, and the support of ESI[tronic] 2.0 for Windows XP will be terminated at the end of 2017 (Microsoft already stopped supporting Windows XP in 2015). (XP users can still in 2017 use ESI 2.0, but without intermediate updates) The updates will automatically be downloaded in the background to ensure the daily work in the workshop is not disturbed. The installation can be made when best suitable, ensuring that ESI[tronic] 2.0 always remains up to date. Service schedule improvements series of improvements have been made to the M-Service Schedules. In order to ensure none of the recommended steps are being missed when performing a service, the additional works are now more prominent. The service schedules now include easy-to-fill OK/Not OK/Remedied steps to improve the overall work efficiency. Additional remarks and notes can be typed-in for each work step. Volvo XC 90 Coverage The latest Volvo XC90 includes both the usual CAN diagnostic protocols, as well as DoIP Ethernet diagnostic protocols for the advanced adjustment and coding functions. This was anticipated long time ago by our engineering teams, and we are happy to confirm that: The new KTS 560 and 590 generation were designed to be fully compliant with these new DoIP protocols The XC90 includes around 40 different CAN systems, whose developed has been already initiated months ago. As such and it is yet another reason to register and use our DDM Diagnostics Download Manager the first CAN systems for the XC90 have been released with the SD intermediate update 2016/3.07 in October Additional systems are released in the same way as soon as they are completed and duly validated by our teams. As not all of them could be included at the time of compiling the 2017/1 DVD update, all the released CAN systems are compiled and included into the first SD online update 2017/1.01, and available to download as soon as the 2017/1 DVDs have been installed. The DoIP systems are currently being developed as well and their release will follow through the year.

3 Interface improvements for high screen resolutions ESI tronic] 2.0 users with high resolution screens sometimes struggled with some of the graphical elements being displayed too small (buttons such as the multimeter reading for instance, could be sometimes hard to reach). We therefore have improved the graphical interface to ensure that the application can be optimized for these users. The interface and its graphical elements can been enlarged to ensure an optimized user-friendliness. In order to do so, the user setting can be manually toggled. The user-friendliness of the software is now ensured whatever screen resolution is being used! Our authors check the entries for plausibility, validate their solution and then process them professionally and in a structured way. This saves you time and effort during your search and helps you immediately finding the right solution provided by experts. This procedure makes our database the most up-to-date and precise one there is and ensures that it is continuously growing. Find the solution for your problem within seconds EBR the 24 h hotline without waiting time Once registered for the new EBR-infotype, you can freely type any text into our search agent (fault codes, symptoms or components ) to access the relevant Known Fixes in seconds. This requires Internet access to ensure that the Known Fixes database can be updated daily so that new contents and adaptations are immediately visible. However, the detailed view remains hidden and is indicated with a lock until the EBR subscription has been validated. 4 End of Support of Windows versions and KTS products in Support for Windows XP and Vista: The support of ESI[tronic] 2.0 for Windows XP, XP Embedded and Windows Vista will end in Beginning with update 2018/1 ESI[tronic] 2.0 cannot be installed on PC with these Windows versions. Users will however be able to use ESI[tronic] 2.0 throughout 2018 using their 2017/3 software, provided they have a valid ESI[tronic] 2.0 license for We will introduce Windows checks, information and warning messages within the next ESI[tronic] 2.0 updates to ensure end-users are informed and given enough time to prepare themselves. Remark: The official extended support of Microsoft for Windows XP has ended in April 2014, for Windows XP Embedded in January 2016 and Windows Vista will be ended in April Support for KTS 650 and 670: As these KTS are based on Windows XP Embedded the update 2017/3 will be the last version that can be installed on KTS 650/670. For these customers we recommend the following solutions: KTS 560 in combination with DCU 220 industrial laptop KTS 590 in combination with DCU 220 industrial laptop KTS 350 all-in-one tool based on Windows 10 KTS 460 package of DCU 100 with KTS 560 Support for KTS 520 and KTS 550: The update 2017/3 will be the last version with support for these KTS devices, whick is now more than 10 years old. We will strive to introduce end-user information messages within these products in the next updates to ensure our customer are duly informed can upgrade their materials if/as desired ahead of this date. For these customers we recommend the following solutions: KTS 590 the new KTS module with the newest vehicle interfaces, Bluetooth communication and Oscilloscope KTS 560 the new KTS module with the newest vehicle interfaces, Bluetooth communication and Multimeter FSA 740 / 760 with PCs running under Windows XP Embedded: Support for Windows XP and Windows Vista of CompacSoft[plus] for FSA 740 and FSA 760 will also end in The FSA can be used without limitation but updates of CompacSoft[plus] will be not possible from 2018/1 ongoing. For these customer we recommend the change to a new fast PC with SSD disk and include an additional WLAN stick to integrate the FSA into the workshop network. This new unified workflow (only 1 setup to install ESI[tronic]) will require far less selections and input from ESI[tronic] 2.0 users. However please be aware that as part of the new workflow, the installation option to Adopt settings from the last installation from the previous installation could not be transferred to the 2017/1 update. As such users will be prompted to enter and validate their I-Key at the beginning of the 2017/1 update setup in order to proceed. This I-key can be found together with the DVD delivery notes. Once entered, the install process will start. Remark: users can also perform a manual selection of the infotypes to be installed as an alternative to entering their I-Key. In the update 2017/2, the installation option Adopt settings from the last installation from the previous installation will be part of the setup again.

6 ESI[tronic] News 2017/1 Installation instructions: See also page abowe. Important rules that apply to the ESI/SD update process: ALWAYS make a new reboot of the PC before updating. Sometimes Windows keeps some dll-files open which will prevent the update process from writing all files to the hard drive and end up with a faulty installation that needs to be deleted. If a faulty installation has occurred, you MUST delete ESI from the setup program and perform a new installation. Make sure no ANTIVIRUS is running. In some cases, the antivirus will prevent overwriting of certain system files, which are needed for the update. Do NOT connect the USB cable to KTS 540/560/570/590 modules before or during an update. Firmware update is not performed during the update. KTS firmware is updated first time you start SD after an update. Connecting the USB during an update may result in a faulty DDC configuration. Install/update ESI before any other programs such as CompacSoft[plus] ESI[tronic] is the master and needs to be updated before any other program.
