Each backplane is given a unique identification which is controlled and documented according to our ISO 9001 quality system. This is your guarantee for delivery of identical backplanes, be it for OEM projects or extensions of existing installations with the same configuration. Cost saving The backplane is the optimum solution for installations with several built-in devices. The wiring between the device and the SCADA system has been replaced by a multi-cable which reduces wiring costs to a minimum. Furthermore, the start-up time is reduced to an absolute minimum. HART connectivity Point-to-point HART connectivity can be achieved by making a separate cable line for the HART signals. Alternatively, a HART pocket can be installed on the output connection on the devices 5106 & 5107 for easy measurement with HART modem. Redundant system with diagnostics The backplane can be set up for redundant connection, covering both signals and power supply. By power failure or short circuit, a potential-free signal is fed back to the PLC/DCS system. The power lines are also fuse-protected. 2
Intelligent surveillance The redundant power supply connection ensures the best possible operating conditions. In case of a supply interruption, an alarm signal is immediately transmitted via the relay output. The output signals and the supply to each device can be looped through a fail-safe controller which will then determine whether a device is on or off. World wide safety standards The many versatile devices in the 5000 series are certified for world wide installation with approvals for: ATEX UL GOST The devices have also passed vibration tests according to the DNV marine standard. To further ensure a reliable and durable design, the backplane board is made of galvanised steel. 3
For safety applications The backplane 7300 series also comes in a version suitable for all PR s system 9000 barriers with SIL - full assessment according to IEC 61508. The 7300 series is thus the optimum solution for: Analogue input signals Analogue output signals Digital input signals Digital output signals Temperature input signals Devices with up-to-date intrinsically safe design The backplane is designed for intrinsically safe devices which eliminates the need for complex and expensive grounding. In addition to the intrinsically safe design, the devices are also characterised by a high degree of isolation which ensures noise-free signal conditioning as well as increased safety. C O M M U N I C AT I O N F O U N D AT I O N Grounding terminal The ground connection, on the connector board, is easy to install. A redundant grounding can also be established in order to optimise safety. DIN rail click-on system All devices for the backplanes are standard stock units available on a day-to-day basis. They are mounted on the backplane with a reliable click-on system. Plug n play The backplane comes in 2 standard sizes with room for either 8 or 16 devices allowing up to 32 channels. All devices from the PR 5000 series in both Ex and non-ex versions are suitable. The standard connection allows integration with the following system vendors: ABB Automation Allen-Bradley Emerson Foxboro GE-Fanuc Honeywell Invensys Mitsubishi Schneider Electric Siemens Yokogawa Tagging strip Easy servicing is also taken into account with the backplane as a tagging strip is provided. Mounting The backplanes are designed for fast and easy installation directly in the switch cabinet. They can be installed both HORIZONTALLY and VERTICALLY to suit the different applications. Optimisation of spare parts stock A backplane solution helps optimise your stock of spare parts as the same type of device can be used for both backplane and conventional DIN rail mounting. 5
