SPECIAL ARBITRATION ARBITRATOR CERTIFICATION USER GUIDE A. CERTIFICATION SITE LOGIN 1. Enter http://training.arbfile.org into your Web browser. This link will take you to the Certification site homepage 2. Read the Introduction located in the center of the Certification homepage. 1

3. After reading the Introduction, click Login (in the upper right hand corner or at the bottom of the screen). 4. You will now be on the Login page. Enter the Username and Password that you chose when you registered on AF s website. 5. Click Login and you will return to the Certification Homepage. On the left side of the Homepage is a list of Courses. Click on Special Arbitration Certification. 6. Select your certification track, Auto Liability and/or General Liability, from the Courses links. 2

B. Certification Process 1. The first time you enter an examination, you must enter an enrollment key word. The confirmation e-mail contained the enrollment key word for your certification track(s). You only have to enter this key word once for each certification track. 2. You are now on the applicable Certification page. This page includes a Sample Examination; a 25 multiple-choice question Claims Knowledge Exam; a 25 multiple-choice question Special Arbitration Agreement and Rules Exam, with a link to the Revised Special Agreement and Rules (use the revised Agreement and Rules as a reference for this exam); and three Arbitration Hearing Simulations. 3

2. We recommend clicking on the Sample Examination to become familiar with the online examination process. This exam has simple multiple -choice questions, e.g., What are the colors of the US flag? There are no limits on the number of times you can take this exam, so become comfortable with the process. 3. Once you are familiar with the process, click the claims knowledge examination. For example, Auto Liability Claims Knowledge Examination or the General Liability Claims Knowledge Examination depending on your certification track. C. EXAMINATION PROCESS 1. Click on Attempt quiz now. 2. You are now on the examination page. Take the exam and be sure to answer all questions. If you desire, you can review your answers at this time and make any necessary changes or corrections. Make sure you complete each exam. 3. When you finish answering all of the questions, click on Save my answers. 4

4. A prompt asks if you wish to send your answers to be graded. You will not be able to change your answers if you click Yes. Click Yes only if you have completed the examination. If not, click Cancel to return to the examination. 5. When you click Yes to have your answers graded, you will immediately see your score. If your score is 70 or higher, you have successfully completed the examination. 6. Click Continue if you wish to attempt another Claims Knowledge Examination. NOTE: You are only allowed three attempts to pass each test within a sixmonth period. If you score below 70% (76% for the Agreement and Rules Examination) on all three attempts, you must wait six months before you are allowed to test again. As such, you should probably review your choice of claims training material before attempting another Claims Knowledge examination. 5

Questions for this examination were taken from Siegel's Torts by Brian Siegel, published in 1998 by Emanuel Publishing Corporation and from Multiple Choice Questions Workbook - AIC 36, 1st Edition published in 2003 by Keir Educational Resources. 7. If you do not want to try another attempt or want to move on to the Forum exam, click on AL Exam or GL Exam (depending on your track) at the bottom of the page. This will take you back to the main Auto Liability or General Liability Certification page. D. USING RESOURCES WITH EXAMINATIONS 1. There are resources available to use while taking the Agreement and Rules examination and the Hearing Simulations examinations. A link to a copy of the Revised Special Arbitration Agreement and Rules is located above the Special Arbitration Agreement and Rules Examination link. 2. Click on the Revised Special Agreement and Rules link. The Agreement and Rules will open. 3. The Special Arbitration Agreement and Rules Examination is an open book test. Click on the small Printer icon to print a copy of the Agreement and Rules pamphlet. The pamphlet consists of 18 pages. 6

4. Once the pamphlet is printed, click on the Return to Certification Program link. 5. Click the Agreement and Rules Examination link and attempt the examination. You should refer to the Revised Agreement and Rules while taking this exam. Your score must be 76% or above to successfully complete this exam. 6. Follow the procedure in Section C above to complete and submit the examination for grading. E. CASE SIMULATIONS 1. Click Auto Liability Hearing Simulation Case 1 or General Liability Hearing Simulation Case 1 resource and review the simulation information S-Forms, Contentions Sheets, and Evidence Descriptions. 7

2. You will notice that this resource opens in a separate window. Click on the Auto Liability Case 1 Simulation Examination or General Liability Case 1 Simulation Examination links. 3. You will now be able to go back and forth between the windows referring to the case information while taking the simulation examination. 4. Once you have completed Simulation Case 1 examination, complete the other simulations. Again, you have three attempts on each case and your score should be 70 or above for successful completion. To access each remaining simulation, follow the steps as outlined above. 5. Once you have successfully completed all three simulations, the Claims Knowledge examination, and the Agreement and Rules examination; you have completed the certification process. TIPS FOR COMPLETING THE CERTIFICATION EXAMINATIONS 1. Be sure to carefully read all of the instructions before attempting each examination. 2. Do not use all three attempts on an examination back to back. Take a break, then come back and attempt the examination later. You do not have to complete the entire certification requirements at the same time. 3. We highly recommend completing the Sample Examination at the beginning of each certification program. As stated, the Sample Examination gives you the opportunity to practice this online testing system. 4. Remember these exams are taken throughout the United States, so do not apply any local jurisdictional law when selecting your answers. 8

5. Use the most current edition of the applicable Arbitration Agreement and Rules when completing a Forum Agreement and Rules Examination. Remember there are definitions of key words in the front of each Arbitration Agreement that apply to the specific forum. Many of the Agreement and Rules answers are based upon these definitions. 6. We deliberately do not give feedback on the correct/incorrect answers. It is part of the permission agreement with our reference sources for the exams Siegel s Torts by Brian Siegel, published in 1998 by Emanuel Publishing Company and Multiple Choice Questions Workbook AIC 36, 1 st Edition, published in 2003 by Keir Education Resources. These references are in a question-answer format. If we provided you with the answers along with the questions, you would have an online version of these books, which we are not allowed to publish. 7. When completing the hearing simulation examinations, read only the information provided. Do not read between the lines because of a similar case which you may have handled in your career. A contention without supporting evidence is not a fact. 8. Upon completion of reading the case material, such as the filing forms, Contentions Sheets, and evidence descriptions, you will complete four multiplechoice questions. Select the answer option that is closest to your basis of finding, award, and weight of the evidence. The final question on your decision explanation has six options three options are correct and add points to your score, while three options are incorrect and subtract points. Select the three most appropriate answers. 9
