PEOPLE, PROCESSES, TECHNOLOGY People Relevant organization Skillset (not just water engineers) Management support Processes Introducing new processes and procedures Inter-departmental working groups Change of paradigm (knowing vs. fire fighting) Technology New technologies adoption (data, IoT, comm., analysis, DSS) Trusting data and digital analysis Smart and automatic decisions 5

INTERNET of THINGS SOLUTION FOR THE WATER SECTOR LEVERAGE ON: Network Sensors Smart metering Internet of Things Asset Management, GIS Big Data Data Science Anomaly Detection BENEFITS: Detect actionable events Prevent catastrophic failures Manage and prioritize Visualize network in real time Respond faster Improve customer service 6

PEOPLE and PROCESSES Focus on the structure of the underlying data sources (the network) Function across all different elements of the network (water sources, water storage, treatment, trunk lines, distribution, GIS data, asset data, operations and consumption points). Manage and maintain the integrity of the data sources as well as ensure regular transmission of data. Operationalise in accordance to the data received. Measure and improve against pre-determined Key Performance indicators 7

Implementing a PPT driven workflow Data collection Analysis and planning Implementation of DMA and AMR technology Identification of main sources of Non Revenue Water Centralised operation, Action and training, setting of targets and tracking of KPI s 8

Achievements from a PPT strategy Operations optimization Collateral damage prevention Network availability Water loss reduction Customer service improvement Visibility enhancement Energy saving Water conservation Improved data integrity Personnel efficiency Detection efficiency Knowledge preservation 9

What customers say: The impact of TaKaDu on Unitywater is based on the PPT paradigm: People, Processes and Technology. The deployment of TaKaDu challenged us to change the way we respond to events and improve the way we prioritise our work based on objective evidence and doing more in a planned and coordinated manner. George Theo CEO, Unitywater, QLD, Australia January 2018 10

NRW IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF HAIFA 2006-2009 30 25 20 15 10 5 0 NRW (%) 2006 2007 2008 2009 Always between 20% to 30%! 11

The beginning of change In 2010 the water systems were transferred to water utilities (owned by the municipalities) The NRW became expensive! But the real know how about NRW reduction wasn t there yet 12

The water utility age NRW(%) 17 16 15 14 13 12 11 10 2010 2011 2012 2013 Huge infrastructure investments (50m US$) without real magnificent NRW reduction (17% to 16%) 13

That s when we understood that NRW reduction needs a different approach Adopting the PPT approach (people, process, technology): 1. A small team of people (+budget and empowerment) 2. A clear process of work 3. Use of technology and real data 14

PPT RESULTS- 2017 NRW= 7.1% NRW(%) 18 16 14 12 10 8 6 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 Further detail at the Jasco/RAMM stand D8 or in room 07 starting at 13:30 15
