Page 4 f 18 2 OVERVIEW This sectin f the HW4 manual cvers nly the fllwing HW4 mdules: HW4 Functinal Mdules LOG-RC Series Data Lggers Device Manager Data Lgging Usage User cnfigurable settings fr the data lggers and assciated accessries Memry status, lg interval setting and data dwnlad Calibratin / Adjustment: HW4 des nt allw calibrating r adjusting the LOG-RC series data lggers. The HygrClip prbe that is used with mdel LOG-HC2-RC cannt be calibrated r adjusted while cnnected t the data lgger. HW4 can be used t calibrate and adjust a HygrClip prbe that is directly cnnected t the HW4 PC by means f a service cable such as cable AC3001. Fr instructins, please see the HW4 manual E-M-HW4v3-A2-001 HW4 functins that are nt device dependent are cvered in the HW4 manual E-M-HW4v3-Main. 3 INITIAL SETUP The LOG-RC series data lggers use the fllwing radi frequencies t cmmunicate with the HW PC: 433.92 MHz (standard) r 915 MHz (USA). Cmmunicatin with the HW4 PC requires ne f the fllwing types f adapter: USB dngle wireless adapter LAN wireless adapter (Ethernet TCP/IP prtcl) In principle, yu may use as many LAN adapters as required by yur applicatin but yu can nly ne USB dngle adapter. 3.1 USB dngle wireless adapter The USB dngle wireless adapter requires a driver in rder t cmmunicate with the HW4 PC. IMPORTANT: D nt run HW4 while installing this driver D nt plug-in the USB dngle t the HW4 PC befre installing the driver 3.1.1 USB Driver installatin As part f its installatin prcess, the HW4 installer creates a directry labeled USB_Driver_LOG-xxx-RC lcated in the HW4 installatin flder: 2011;

Page 5 f 18 Open the directry and duble click n the file named CDM2.04.16.exe. This autmatically installs n the HW4 PC the driver required t use USB dngle wireless adapter At this pint yu can plug-in the USB dngle wireless adapter t the HW4 PC and Windws shuld autmatically assciate the driver t the USB dngle. When this is dne yu can run HW4 and search fr any available data lgger as explained later n in this manual. 3.2 LAN wireless adapter The LAN adapter is factry cnfigured t use DHCP (Dynamic Hst Cnfiguratin Prtcl) and shuld be used nly n a LAN that includes a DHCP server such as a ruter r a managed switch. With DHCP enabled, the DHCP server senses when a new device (r hst) is cnnected t the netwrk and autmatically assigns / cnfigures the device with the next available IP address. The device is als autmatically cnfigured with the netwrk subnet mask and gateway address. Using DHCP is simple, guarantees cmpatibility with the netwrk and eliminates the pssibility f cnflicting IP addresses. An IP address assigned using DHCP is als knwn as a dynamic address. As lng as DHCP remains enabled n the hst, the hst IP address is subject t change. This is nt desirable when using HW4. Once the dynamic address f the hst is knwn, and cmmunicatin with the hst can be established, we recmmend t change the hst IP address t an unused netwrk address and t disable DHCP n the hst. In this manner, the new hst IP address is a static address, nt subject t change. When using mre than ne LAN adapter, make sure t give each ne a unique name (r netwrk name). See further dwn in this manual fr instructins. 2011;

Page 6 f 18 4 SEARCHING FOR THE WIRELESS ADAPTER AND DATA LOGGERS D ne f the fllwing: Cnnect the USB dngle wireless adapter t the HW4 PC (after having installed the required USB driver) r Pwer up the LAN wireless adapter and cnnect it t the same LAN as the HW4 PC. Nte: in principle there is n limit as t the number f adapters that can be simultaneusly used. Hwever nly a single USB dngle adapter is permitted. The Rtrnic wireless data lggers are set by the factry t autmatically transmit measurement data whenever interrgated by HW4. Initially, make sure that the data lggers are within a few meters (r yards) f the wireless adapter. Start HW4 and use the HW4 main menu bar as illustrated belw: 2011;

Any adapter can be selected by clicking n it with the muse. 2011;

Page 8 f 18 LAN Wireless Adapter USB Dngle Wireless Adapter The status reads OK when the adapter is wrking and when the HW4 PC can cmmunicate with it. When a previusly detected adapter can n lnger be fund, the status reads unknwn. In the case f a LAN adapter the frm shws the IP address f the adapter. Whenever the IP address f a LAN adapter is nt cmpatible with the LAN the status reads invalid IP. In this case the adapter shuld be recnfigured as explained belw. 4.1.1 Recnfiguring a LAN adapter Select the Adapters tab and highlight the LAN adapter by clicking n it the muse With the adapter selected, click n the Edit buttn and use the frm shwn t the left t change the adapter netwrk settings. 2011;
