1 Download the latest version of Software Obtaining the latest software for your MFD (Multi-Function Display) The latest software for your MFD is available for general download from www.simrad-yachting.com 1 Go to the download page of the product that requires the update 2 Click on the link to download the update file. 3 The file should start to download 4 Depending on your computer s security settings, a security warning as below may appear. Click Allow to continue. 5 If asked to SAVE or RUN select SAVE and save to your hard drive. 6 Choose or create a folder on your hard drive to save the file to. Note: The file is typically 70-100 MB in size and can take a long time to download on some internet connections. For example, estimated download time for dialup 56K modems is 3-4 hours, DSL and some cable internet is 10-15 minutes, and high-speed cable internet is 1-2 minutes. Note: The update file can be used only for the MFD it is intended. e.g. NSS evo2 or NSO evo2. 4 Download the latest version of Software Software upgrade instructions
Copy files to a media card 7 Once the file has been downloaded and saved to your hard drive, copy the file to either an SD Card or Micro-SD Card. The type of card used depends on the multifunction display to be up-graded. The cards will be referred to in this document as a media card. SD Card for NSO evo2 Micro SD Card for NSS evo2 9 Copy the upgrade file from your hard drive to the root of a media card. The root of the media card is top most level, i.e. not placed into a folder. Backup your data Although your data should not be affected, it is recommended that all your data is backed up before commencing upgrading the software. Your user created data consists of the following Waypoints routes and tracks: Settings: (page layouts, units, language, C-zone configuration files) The backup process copies all your waypoints, routes and tracks to a media card. Backup waypoints routes and tracks Note: In multiple MFD systems, waypoints and routes are shared across the network and can be backed up from one MFD. Note: Tracks are unique to each MFD. Critical track information will need to be backed up from each MFD Start your MFD (make sure the media card with the upgrade file is NOT connected when the display first starts). 1 Insert your SD Card into the card reader. Insert the card all the way in until it clicks and stays in place. 2 Activate the Home page Backup your data Software upgrade instructions 5
3 Select Waypoints, Routes and Tracks 4 Select Export 5 Select the desired output format 6 Select the destination folder. The default is the media card if inserted. 7 Select OK to continue 6 Backup your data Software upgrade instructions
8 Rename the backup if required. Press Enter to continue Backup Settings 1 Make sure there is media card inserted. 2 Under the files menu (see Backup waypoints routes and tracks on page 5) select Settings database 3 Select the destination folder 4 Optionally add a meaningful name. Upgrade procedure The upgrade procedure can be started either from the software interface, or by turning on the unit with a media card inserted into the reader Start the upgrade by powering on the MFD 1 Insert the media card that has the upgrade file into the card reader. Insert the card all the way in until it clicks and stays in place. 2 Press the power button to start the MFD or the OP40 3 The MFD will start and the upgrade process will begin automatically. A progress bar will be displayed. DO NOT TURN OFF THE MFD AT THIS TIME. Note: There could also be other progress messages appear on screen. Installing update. Please wait... Do not trun off during update, as this may damage your device 4 Once the upgrade is complete the unit will reboot and will start normally to the accept terms and conditions notice. Note: Some updates may contain additional drivers or processors that will require additional auto restarts. 5 Remove the media card. Note: Software versions 52.1.103 or higher no longer boot to an update menu. To re-run the same updater this has to be done through the user interface. Start upgrade through the software interface 1 Start the MFD 2 Insert the media card that has the upgrade file into the card reader. Insert the card all the way in until it clicks and stays in place. 3 Activate the Home page 4 Select FILES 5 Select the memory card 6 Select the upgrade file 7 Select Upgrade 8 Select OK to confirm to start the upgrade. 9 The MFD will shutdown and then restart Restarting 10 The installation will begin. A progress bar will be displayed. DO NOT TURN OFF THE MFD AT THIS TIME Installing update. Please wait... Check the software version number After the upgrade check the software version to verify the upgrade has been installed successfully. 1 Activate the Home page 2 Select Settings 3 Select About Note: For NSO evo2 systems with dual screens, please check the software version is the same on both of the connected screens.
