September 2012 PACSystems* RX3i IC695ACC650 Series 90-70 to RX3i Conversion Rack The conversion rack provides a solution for converting an existing Series 90-70 system to PACSystems RX3i, minimizing outage time for installation. The Conversion Rack has the same footprint as a standard Series 90-70 nine-slot rack. The Conversion Rack accommodates the I/O Adapter Card (IC695ACC651) so that the existing Series 90-70 I/O terminal block assembly with field wiring can be used. The I/O adapter cards are mounted in a vertical position inside the conversion rack. A slotted mounting bracket is provided for mounting the Rx3i system in front of the conversion rack.. The mounting bracket can swing forward for easier installation. Easy access for maintenance is provided for field wiring on the Series 90-70 I/O terminal block assembly, also providing LED visibility of the RX3i system. The conversion rack provides for rear or front mounting. Provision for mounting either 7, 12, or 16 slot RX3i backplanes Functions The Conversion Rack provides for mounting 7 or 12 slot RX3i backplanes. A 16 slot RX3i backplane can be supported with optional adapter plates. The Conversion Rack system includes the assembled mechanical frame and two adapter plates. The mounting bracket swings open for RX3i module installation and, when installation is completed, is locked upright to the frame with the captive screw provided. IC695ACC650 3 Conversion Rack Setup Instructions Note: Preliminary Steps Before beginning the following installation procedure, refer to the Series 90-70 to RX3i I/O Adapter Installation Guide, GFK-2793 for complete information on the rack conversion system. Warning Remove the power supply connected to the Series 90-70 rack before disconnecting terminal blocks or removing the rack. Even if the power supply is switched off, hazardous voltages from user field wiring may still be present on the I/O terminal boards as well as on the power supply terminal board. Care should be taken when handling the power supply and I/O modules as well as any wiring connected to them in order to prevent personal injury. Before installing the Conversion Rack: Step 1: Remove and retain the Series 90-70 I/O terminal block assembly with field wiring from the existing Series 90-70 system. Step 2: Remove the Series 90-70 system from the existing installation. Conversion Rack Mounting flanges (shown in Figure 9) are removable and can be fitted to suit rear or front mount. The rack must be mounted in one of the orientations shown in Figures 8 and 9. The mounting requirements (either front or rear mount) must be determined according to the existing orientation of the Series 90-70 rack. Note: Front mounting may require additional space or it might interfere with panel door closing. Mounting Flange Captive Screw Figure 8: Rear Mounting Figure 9: Front Mounting
4 IC695ACC650 Follow the steps below to install the Conversion Rack system with the I/O Adapter card and RX3i modules. Holes for cable ties to fasten wiring harness to the rack Step 1: 90-70 Conversion rack for 7 or 12 slot RX3i backplane Step 2: 90-70 Conversion rack with Adapter plates for 16 slot RX3i backplanes Step 3: Mount and install Rx3i system Step 1: The standard conversion rack will accommodate either 7 slot or 12 slot RX3i back plane Step 2 (optional): For a 16 slot RX3i backplane, install the additional adapter plates provided. Step 3: With the mounting bracket closed and secured, mount and install the RX3i system. For details on RX3i module installation, refer to the PACSystems RX3i System Manual, GFK-2314. Step 4: Mount and install I/O Adapter Cards Step 5: Connect field wiring. Verify grounding as specified on page 5. Step 6: Close Conversion Rack, secure with captive screws and start up Step 4: Prior to the installation of the I/O adapter cards, wire the I/O adapter card to the RX3i terminal blocks or use pre-wired wiring harness adapters. Refer to the Series 90-70 to RX3i I/O Adapter Installation Guide, GFK-2793 for details on the mapping of the connector points of the Series 90-70 I/O modules to RX3i I/O modules. Step 5: Loosen the captive screws (as shown in Figure 8) on the mounting bracket and swing it open and install the I/O Adapter card. The IC695ACC651 I/O Adapter Cards have molded latches that automatically snap onto the upper and lower rails of the rack when the module is fully inserted. Use the M2.5x11 captive screws on the I/O cards to secure the modules to the rack. As shown in step 2, holes are provided on the RX3i backplane mounting bracket to fasten the wiring harness to the rack using cable ties. Step 6: Plug in the Series 90-70 I/O terminal block assembly with the field wiring to the I/O Header Assembly on the I/O adapter card. Step 7: Close the mounting bracket and tighten the captive screws with a torque of 2.5Nm.
IC695ACC650 5 Grounding The ground lug on either side of the rack must be connected to earth ground with not less than an AWG #12(3.33mm 2 ) wire. The ground lugs are #8-32. Warning If the ground lug is not connected to earth ground, the rack is not grounded. The rack must be grounded to minimize electrical shock hazard, which could result in severe personal injury. For proper grounding of the RX3i system, refer to the PACSystems RX3i System Manual, GFK-2314.
