Buna ISD Technology Department Buna ISD Secure Wireless CougarNet+ By Christopher Fikes, Network Manager Buna ISD Whether using your personal ipad, or your school issued laptop, CougarNet+ will make your connections secure using military grade encryption, and your user experience better with simpler web filtering and automatic network identification. This guide will show you how to get started using this resource with your device.

Table Of Contents Table Of Contents Introduction Connect Using a Windows Vista/7 Device Connect Using a Windows 8 Device Connect Using a Mac OS 10.x Device Connect Using Chrome OS Device Connect Using an ios Device Connect Using an Android Device 4.x Generic WPA2 802.1x Settings Introduction CougarNet+ is a new wireless network deployed using 802.1x and RADIUS for automatic VLAN assignment. This will give those with elevated permissions access automatically while simplifying the connection process for everyone. Devices owned by the district will automatically be granted access to internal resources, while devices belonging to students participating in BYOD will be fenced off protecting other students from infection, and district resources from attack. Using this network will also free the user from having to authenticate a second time to the internet filter as each VLAN is filtered as a whole. Bandwidth limitations are also in place preventing heavy users from creating a hostile experience for those less intensive applications. Machines belonging to Buna ISD running Windows 7 and newer will automatically be configured for CougarNet+ usage.

Connect Using a Windows Vista/7 Device Select the network connections icon near the clock on the taskbar. Choose CougarNet+ Select Connect Automatically. Select Connect Enter your Active Directory Credentials Example: User name: BHSLAB\cfikes Password: ************* Select OK If presented with a certificate verification error do not be alarmed. Select Connect to accept the server certificate and connect to CougarNet+, selecting terminate will disconnect.

If presented with a certificate verification error do not be alarmed. This is not a configuration error, but an added level of security in Windows 8 informing you of an unknown certificate signing. Select Connect to accept the server certificate. You are now connected to CougarNet+

Connect Using a Mac OS 10.x Device Select the Wi-Fi Networks icon on the status bar. Select CougarNet+ Enter your Active Directory Credentials used to log into any school owned Windows PC. Example: (Omit the Domain BHSLAB) User name:cfikes Password: ************ If presented with a certificate verification screen, select accept to connect.
