Summary Pearson is committed to providing a more seamless user experience for our customers. To accomplish this, we re embarking on numerous technology integration initiatives designed to simplify customers access to a wide range of digital products and systems, and eventually, to increasingly comprehensive student performance data. As a result, Pearson SuccessNet will move to a central, new account management service one that is already in use by many of Pearson s instructional delivery systems today in Spring-Summer 2013. Current practices for the New Year Rollover period will be adjusted, and immediately followed by Pearson moving customer accounts onto the new service. This guide provides a detailed summary of those changes, how they will benefit your District, and the steps involved for successful completion with minimal administrative oversight. Customer Benefits By shifting Pearson SuccessNet and its users onto a new account management service, we re enabling numerous immediate and long-term benefits for customers: - A single account that provides access to many Pearson instructional resources delivery systems. - Automatic single sign on across those systems, without the need to reenter login credentials. - Pearson etext personalizations are captured and shared across both the desktop and mobile versions for a single account. - Teacher and student accounts may be created just once and then available to all applicable systems that need them. - The ability for Districts to integrate SuccessNet with other Pearson or 3 rd party systems, including PowerSchool, SchoolNet, and others for further roster synchronization and single sign on benefits. New Year Rollover Changes In order to move customer accounts onto the new service, several steps in the New Year Rollover process will be adjusted: 1. Only District Administrators may select the New Year Rollover date. School Administrators will not have this capability. If your district does not have a District Administrator account, please create one by Spring/Summer 2013 3
completing this online application. NOTE: Independent schools can request District Administrator accounts and are encouraged to do so. 2. District Administrators must select one of two dates to complete New Year Rollover: Pass 1: June 29-30 [DEFAULT DATE if one is not chosen] Pass 2: August 10-11 The opportunity to select a preferred date will be available between 3/25/2013-6/22/2013. If neither time frame works for you, please contact Technical Support. 3. Administrators may opt to delete all student accounts during the rollover process. This is the only way to start with a clean slate prior to loading your district and school rosters that will need to comply with new username and password strength policies in the new year. We strongly urge Districts to utilize this option. As usual, the New Year Rollover process will not require any system downtime. For more information about this process and how to prepare, please review the complete New Year Rollover Guidelines. Account Migration Process As soon as New Year Rollover is complete, Pearson will initiate the process to move your district s accounts onto the new system. This may take 3-4 days, will require no downtime, and will not be visible to customers. Administrators should refrain from creating any new accounts until you receive a confirmation that the process is complete. Upon completion, Administrators will: 1. Attempt to login and notify teachers to do the same. If your accounts were not successfully migrated, you will be guided through a brief reconciliation process. Otherwise, you will land on your homepage and proceed as usual. 2. Receive alerts for any student accounts which failed to move successfully. For those accounts, Administrators will be asked to quickly complete any student account resolutions as those users will not be able to login until their accounts are updated. Spring/Summer 2013 4
Account Resolutions The new account management service requires more stringent guidelines for acceptable usernames and passwords than PSN has used in the past. Username and Password Rules Usernames Passwords Today Unique in District 6-30 letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and underscore. 6-30 letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) New Unique across entire service. 1-120 characters. No leading or trailing spaces. 6-32 ASCII Characters. No blank spaces. Cannot match or contain User name, First name or Last name. Must contain at least 1 alpha character, contain at least 1 number or special character. As a result, some accounts may require updating in order to meet the new policies. Resolution Steps Account Type Administrators Teachers Students* Steps to Reconcile Upon login, users will be prompted to reset their own username and password. Administrators &/or Teachers must update student accounts using Pearson s reconciliation tools that will be provided. *NOTE: The easiest way to avoid updating student accounts is to delete all student accounts during New Year Rollover. Then, after successfully moving the District s remaining Teacher and Administrator accounts to the new service, new, fully compliant student rosters may simply be uploaded and require minimal, if any, resolution.
