1 Instruction Manual for: Creating a Profile Posting an Opportunity Posting a Classroom Grant Request

2 CREATING YOUR PROFILE Page 2 Please go to our website: and at the top left of the page (on the black menu bar) click on the Sign Up tab to create your profile.

3 CREATING YOUR PROFILE Page 3 You will be prompted to choose an Entity or Individual account. If you are an Individual and want to post on your own behalf, please skip the next step. If you are an employee of a company and will be an associated individual that will post on behalf of the company, please choose the Individual option and use your work address. You will be able to connect to the company in the next step. If you want an Individual profile that is separate from your workplace, you should create that using a personal address. When creating your Individual account, please choose your primary role from the list of options. If you are a teacher, you MUST use your CCPS address. You will then be prompted to create your username (using only lower case). For security purposes, you will then be required to enter the words that appear in the box in order to proceed and click the Complete Sign Up button in the blue bar.

4 CREATING YOUR PROFILE Page 4 If you are the point of contact person for the company or organization and you want to create your corporate account, please use the Entity option. Only the point of contact person should open the Entity account. If you wish for multiple people to post opportunities for your company or organization, once the corporate account is set up, the system will generate a company code that you can share with employees that are designated to post on behalf of the company. You will be prompted to create your username (using only lower case). For security purposes, you will then be required to enter the words that appear in the box in order to proceed and click the Complete Sign Up button in the blue bar.

5 CREATING YOUR PROFILE Page 5 You will receive an confirmation with a link for you to activate your account. Once you have clicked this link, you will see a screen that states your account has been activated and you can then use the top black menu bar and click on Log In to enter your username and password. You can navigate to your profile by scrolling on top of the My Account tab (in that same black bar at the top) and when the drop down opens, click on Profile.

6 CREATING YOUR PROFILE Page 6 Once you have logged in, please use the top black menu bar to navigate around your account. The first time you login, you will be prompted to fill out an additional information form (next page) and once you have completed or skipped that form, you will need to use this menu bar again and click on the Profile option. You may view different opportunities without a profile, but in order to post a need or opportunity, you need to create a profile.

7 CREATING YOUR PROFILE Page 7 If you are an employee and you want to post on behalf of the company, please choose an Individual account and use your work address. Once you create your account and login for the first time, it will prompt the Additional Information form and the first option has a place for your company code. You can also skip this form and go back to it later to update and/or add this code by going to your profile homepage and clicking on the Edit Additional Information Form from the left-hand navigation.

8 POSTING AN OPPORTUNITY Page 8 Community members, businesses, and organizations can post ways they want to get involved: Hosting students/classes in their place of work for a career experience whether a one-time event/tour or job shadowing, or an ongoing opportunity like an internship Post paid summer or part time job opportunities Offer resources they have available for schools/educators Offer to share talent/expertise with a classroom/school as a classroom speaker Invite teachers for summer extern experiences in their workplace Educators/Schools can post: Resources they might need from the community expertise in a field, donated materials, etc. Resources/ways they might help their community Volunteer needs in their schools And more!

9 POSTING AN OPPORTUNITY Page 9 To post an opportunity, once you are on your profile homepage, you will see several tabs in blue text. Click on the tab called Internships/Resources/Scholarships/Volunteer Opportunities. For a new request, click on Add an Opportunity (blue button) to start submitting your new opportunity using the on-screen instructions.

10 POSTING AN OPPORTUNITY Page 10 The next screen will be a full set of posting instructions. You may print them or go back to them later. Scroll down to the bottom to click the Continue button in order to open the posting form.

11 POSTING AN OPPORTUNITY Page 11 You can go back to see the instruction page by clicking on How to Submit an Opportunity in the orange box. You will need to use your back button to return to this form.

12 POSTING AN OPPORTUNITY Page 12 Click on the for more information (explanation or suggestion) about each section. Type click on the drop-down list and choose the appropriate type of opportunity. Category click on the drop-down list and choose the category that best describes your opportunity. There is an other and not applicable option. Title type in the title of the opportunity. Be specific (i.e. Banking Career Speaker, not just Career Speaker). Display Until add a date for when you want the opportunity to be removed from the site. Leave blank in order to leave posted indefinitely. Opportunity Summary add a concise overview of the opportunity.

13 POSTING AN OPPORTUNITY Page 13 Detailed Description a detailed description of what the opportunity entails, including its projected duration if applicable (i.e. length of project, semester, open-ended). Requirements requirements one must have in order to be eligible. Pay Type click on the drop-down list and choose a pay type (Paid or UnPaid; if not applicable to your opportunity just leave blank). Zip Code type in the zip code of where this opportunity will take place (if not applicable, leave blank). Frequency click on the drop-down list and choose a frequency (if not applicable, leave blank). How to Inquire the best way for one to inquire about the opportunity (i.e. , website, phone number, contact person, etc.). You will then have the option to Save as a Draft or Submit Request.

14 POSTING AN OPPORTUNITY Page 14 Once you submit your request, a notification is sent to The Education Foundation asking for approval for posting on our website. Once approved, you will receive an notification and your opportunity will be posted on the public website. We are estimating for this turn-around to be within three (3) business days. You may submit as many opportunities as you have available. 15 CONNECT WITH A CLASSROOM Page 15 Through Connect With a Classroom, teachers may make a financial request to create an innovative learning experience for their students. These grant requests are viewable for public consideration year-round, and grant requests posted before September 4, 2012 will be considered for funding from The Education Foundation s Connect With a Classroom Grant Fund.

16 ABOUT CONNECT WITH A CLASSROOM Page 16 Teachers: The Connect With A Classroom Online Grant Request program allows you to make a financial request with a maximum of $2,000 for an innovative classroom project you would like to create for your students. The cycle has begun, so we encourage you to think about something you would like to do and post a grant request. To view previously fulfilled grants, please visit and click on Projects Fulfilled.

17 ABOUT CONNECT WITH A CLASSROOM Page 17 The grant request cycle for funding will be open through the summer and into early fall in order to provide all teachers an opportunity to apply. To be considered for the License for Learning funding, and other funding from The Education Foundation s Connect With A Classroom Grant Fund, your request must be made by September 4, After that date, you may continue to post grant requests for community consideration throughout the school year. You can open previous requests and click on Copy To New Draft in order to edit and re-post for the new grant cycle.

18 ABOUT CONNECT WITH A CLASSROOM Page 18 The new opportunity portal called Internships/Resources/Scholarships/Volunteer Opportunities has opened which will allow you as a classroom teacher to post needs for volunteers, speakers and materials for the community to view and consider fulfilling. It will also allow you to post anything you/your class could offer to the community to help create real-world learning experiences for your students.

20 POSTING A REQUEST Page 20 To post a Connect With A Classroom grant request, once you are on your profile homepage, you will see several tabs in blue text. Click on the tab called Classroom Requests. For a new request, click on Add a Classroom Request (blue button) to start submitting your new request using the on-screen instructions.

22 POSTING A REQUEST Page 22 You can go back to see the instruction page by clicking on How to Submit a Classroom Request in the orange box. You will need to use your back button to return to this posting form. You may continue to post your projects through March of the current school year for the community to review and consider funding. If you change schools during the year, you will need to update your profile immediately. (If you do not make this change, your requests will be sent to the wrong principal for approval.)

23 POSTING A REQUEST Page 23 Click on the for more information (explanation or suggestion) about each section. Request Title name your request. Use a title that hooks the reader. Goal state your goals for the request clearly. Try not to use educational jargon. What will be done with the students Give a detailed description of activity/project and state your planned timeline for implementation; is it a one-time activity or permanently integrated? How does the grant connect to your current curriculum? Try not to use educational jargon. Benefit What are the expected outcomes? How many students and teachers will benefit from this request? Try not to use educational jargon.

24 POSTING A REQUEST Page 24 Financial Request means you are specifically requesting funding (i.e. someone to donate money for you to purchase materials for your classroom project). Please note: for Donated Materials or Time and Talent requests, please use the new opportunities portal called Internships/Resources/Scholarships/ Volunteer Opportunities next to the Classroom Requests tab at the top. Items please list the items individually and the cost per item. Cost grant requests may not exceed $2,000. Please note: historically, smaller amounts (under $800) are more likely to be fulfilled. Budget Narrative optional, in order to provide additional budget details. You will then have the option to Save as a Draft or Submit Request.

25 POSTING A REQUEST Page 25 Once you submit your request, a notification is sent to your principal for approval. Once he/she has issued approval along with The Education Foundation, you will receive an notification and your request will be posted on the public website. Please remember that it is ultimately up to you to make sure your principal approves your projects. If you do not receive approval within a week or two, we recommend you speak with or your principal.
