1. Important notes on the installation of the Ericsson handsfree car kit For use within the BMW dealership organization only. The installation of Ericsson handsfree car kits is to be performed only by appropriately qualified workshops equipped with the necessary special tools and documentation (maintenance, repair, diagnostic manuals, etc.) Take care to prevent kinking or other damage when installing cabling and wires. Any additionally installed cables or wires must be secured with cable ties. Item numbers refer only to overviews / schedules and text adjoining the respective illustration. On vehicles equipped with the SA677 Professional HiFi system (DSP) the handsfree kit will operate only with the ignition key in "R" and subsequent positions. For vehicles with SA 640 phone preinstallation it is necessary to order the adapter cable set separately from the Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC). When installing the adapter harness A and the antenna adapter cable B, start with branches A1 and A2 or B2, respectively. Branches A1 and A2 run into centre console, to the right of the heating duct Branches A3, A4, A5 and A6 run along the central tunnel (within centre console) to the installation site of the handsfree kit control unit behind the glove compartment. Branch B1 run into the central console, to the right of the heating duct Branch B2 run into passengerside footwell Branch C1 run to the installation site of the handsfree kit control unit behind the glove compartment Branch C2 run into passenger side footwell Branches D1 and D2 run to cigar lighter connector X5 under the centre console insert with trim panel Branch D3 run to RH side of heating duct Tie back any excess cable lengths. When installing the adapter harness A, start with branches A1 and A2. Branches A1 and A2 run into centre console, to the right of the heating duct Branches A3, A4, A5 and A6 run along the central tunnel (within centre console) to the installation site of the handsfree kit control unit behind the glove compartment. Branch C1 run to the installation site of the handsfree kit control unit behind the glove compartment Branch C2 run into passenger side footwell Tie back any excess cable lengths. EN/34

7. Fitting the microphone Vehicles without sliding sunroof only 5 33 34 32 Unsnap the microphone cover panel () from the handsfree kit mounting frame () in the roof liner. Pull the black 3pole female connector (33) out of the opening (34) in the roof liner (32) and connect it to the black 3pole male connector of the microphone (5). Insert the microphone (5) into the microphone cover panel (). F 38 0287 B Note the direction of the arrow on the microphone cover panel () and microphone (5) (arrow direction = vehicle forward direction). Snapfit the microphone cover panel () back into the handsfree kit mounting frame () in the roof liner. 34 33 5 32 Vehicles with sliding sunroof only Remove the front roof liner panel () by snapping it out of its position in the roof liner (). Pull the black 3pole female connector (32) out of the opening (33) in the roof liner () and connect it to the black 3pole male connector of the microphone (5). Insert the microphone (5) into the microphone cover panel (34). F 38 0288 B Note the direction of the arrow on the microphone cover panel (34) and microphone (5) (arrow direction = vehicle forward direction). Snapfit the microphone cover panel () back into the handsfree kit mounting frame () in the roof liner. EN/35

8. Fitting / connecting the adapter harness and phone / antenna adapter cables (vehicles with SA640 phone preinstallation only) D 10 D1 X5 9 D2 32 F 38 0289 B Unlock the white 3pole female connector () of the cigar lighter connection X5. Remove the existing female contact () from the PIN2 position, red/black yellow cable, of the white 3pole female connector () on the cigar lighter connection X5. Insert branch D2, 1pole female contact, red/black/yellow cable, of the phone adapter cable D in place of the just removed PIN2 of the white 3pole female connector () of the cigar lighter connection X5. Place the black female connector (10) on the now unused (pinnedout) female contact () and connect it to branch D1, black 1pole male connector, red/black/yellow cable, of the phone adapter cable D. Lock the white 3pole female connector () again and reinsert the 5A fuse (9) in the fuse holder (32). X4546B X4545B X4545B Run the black 18pole female connector X4545B, the black 6pole female connector X4546B and the miniuhf coaxial male connector () of the phone harness () forward through the opening (32), to the right of the heater duct (33). 33 X4546B 32 F 38 0290 B EN/36

8. Fitting / connecting the adapter harness and phone / antenna adapter cables (vehicles with SA640 phone preinstallation only) D3 X4545B D D3 F 38 0291 B Disassemble the black 18pole female connector X4545B of the tiedback phone harness (). Insert branch D3, 1pole spade lug contact, red/yellow cable, of the phone adapter cable D into the PIN 10 position of the black 18pole female connector X4545B. If PIN 10 of the black 18pole female connector X4545B is already occupied, remove the existing spade lug contact () from the PIN 10 position of the black 18pole female connector X4545B, cut off the contact portion, and insulate the free cable end with a piece of shrinkon sleeve (this cable end will no longer be needed). Reassemble the black 18pole female connector X4545B. A1 A2 B1 Force the centre console () slightly outwards from within and run branches A1 (black 18pole male connector) and A2 (white 6pole male connector) of the adapter harness A as well as branch B (miniuhf coaxial female connector) of the antenna adapter cable B through the resulting interspace. Fitting / connecting the adapter harness and phone / antenna adapter cables (vehicles with SA640 phone preinstallation only) B 11 A3A6 32 33 A1 A2 B1 X4545B X4546B F 38 0293 B Connect branch A1, black 18pole male connector of adapter harness A, to the black 18pole female connector X4545B of the phone harness (). Connect branch A2, white 6pole male connector of adapter harness A, to the black 6pole female connector X4546B of the phone harness (). Screw branch B1, miniuhf coaxial female connector of the antenna adapter cable B, onto the miniuhf coaxial male connector () of the phone harness (). Run the adapter harness A with branches A3, A4, A5 and A6 along the central tunnel (32) within the centre console (33) to the installation site of the handsfree kit control unit (2) behind the glove compartment, then run the antenna adapter cable B with branch B2 along the central tunnel (32) within the centre console (33) and into the RH side footwell. Affix the protective strip (11) to the cables in such a manner that the plug connections A1+X4545B, A2+X4546B and B1+ are enclosed. When refitting the centre console insert with trim panel, take care not do crush or otherwise damage the connectors and cables. X695B 7 33 32 F 38 0294 B The illustration shows the rear RH side of the luggage compartment. Detach the tiedback phone wire harness () and remove the protective strips.check that the miniuhf coaxial male connector () and mini UHF coaxial female connector are screwed together.if not, make this connection now.the black 3pole female connector (33) of the tiedback phone harness () is needed only when a line compensator is fitted.the black 26pole female connector X695B of the tiedback phone harness () is not used. Affix the protective strip (7) to the cables in such a manner that the plug connections +32, the black 26pole female connector X695B and the black 3pole female connector (33) are enclosed. Tie back the phone harness () again. EN/38

Fitting / connecting the adapter harness and phone / antenna adapter cables (vehicles without SA640 phone preinstallation only) 11 A3A6 X4545B Connect branch A1, black 18pole male connector of adapter harness A, to the black 18pole female connector () of the basic kit retrofit harness. Branch A2, white 6pole male connector of the adapter harness A, will not be needed. 32 A1 A2 Affix the protective strip (11) on the cables in such a manner that the plug connections A1+ and branch A2 are enclosed. F 38 0295 B Run the adapter harness A with branches A3, A4, A5 and A6 along the central tunnel () within the centre console (32) to the installation site of the handsfree kit control unit behind the glove compartment and secure these cables with cable ties. 10. Fitting the mobile phone cradle with cable on the phone console 20 B B C1 C2 A 1 F 38 0296 B On the phone console (20), mark out the position of the hole () for passing through the cable from the mobile phone cradle unit. Observe dimension A. Dimension A = 70 mm Drill a pilot hole using a 6 mm dia. twist drill, then expand this by boring with a 20 mm dia. variable hole cutter. Enlarge this hole () centrally by filing to dimension B until branch C1, wrapped black 10pole female connector, and branch C2, FME coaxial male connector, of the cable from the mobile phone cradle (1) can be passed through the opening. Dimension B = 10 mm 3 20 Centralize the mounting plate (3) so that the previously made hole () is approximately twothirds covered. Mark out the positions of the four mounting holes (), then remove the mounting plate (3) again. Drill the mounting holes () in the phone console (20) as previously marked. F 38 0297 B 20 3 13 21 1 C1 Run branch C1 with its black 10pole female angle connector and branch C2 with its FME male coaxial connector (both coming from the mobile phone cradle) through the hole () in the phone console (20). Secure the mounting plate (3) to the phone console (20) using the two 3.5 x 16 fillister head selftapping screws (13) and screw the mobile phone cradle (1) to the mounting plate (3) with the M5x10 cylinder head screw (21). 10. Fitting the mobile phone cradle with cable on the phone console 20 Align the cables C of the mobile phone cradle unit as shown in the illustration and secure them to the phone console (20) with textile adhesive tape (). C C F 38 0299 B EN/41

11. Fitting the phone console with prefitted mobile phone cradle with cable A C Refit the centre console insert with trim panel in the car's centre console and install the phone console (20). 20 C2 B 11 B2/ C1 A6 A5 A4 A3 F 38 00 B In fitting the phone console, follow the Installation Instructions "BMW Phone Console, 7 Series E38", order No. 01 29 9 789 676. Run branch C1, black 10pole female angle connector on cable C, to the installation site of the handsfree kit control unit behind the glove compartment. Join branch C2, FME coaxial male connector on cable C, to branch B2, FME coaxial female connector on antenna adapter cable B (or, on vehicles without SA640 phone preinstallation, to the FME coaxial female connector () of the basic kit retrofit harness) by screwing the connectors together. Affix the antirattle protector (11) to the cables in such a way that it encloses the C2+B2 connector joint (or C2+, respectively). EN/42

12. Connecting / fitting the handsfree kit control unit Clean (degrease) the handsfree kit control unit (2) before affixing the dual mounting strips (15). 2 15 Cut two 125mm lengths off the total 0mm piece of finetype dual mounting strip (15). Discard the rest of the strip material.affix these two cutoff lengths (125 mm) of finetype dual mounting strip (15) to the handsfree kit control unit (2) as shown in the illustration. F 38 01 B 2 14 15 Cut two 125mm lengths off the total 0mm piece of coarsetype dual mounting strip (14). Discard the rest of this strip material. Place these two cutoff lengths (125 mm) of coarsetype dual mounting strip (14) on the two lengths of finetype dual mounting strip (15) previously affixed to the handsfree kit control unit (2). Connect branch A3, white 5pole female connector on adapter harness A, to the white 5pole male connector () on the handsfree kit control unit (2). Connect branch A4, 2pole angular jack plug (3.5 mm dia.) on adapter harness A, to the 3.5 mm dia. black female connector (32) on the handsfree kit control unit (2). 13. Preparing / installing the RH side footwell trim panel 16 Attach the spacer sleeves (16) to the RH side footwell trim panel (), using doublesided adhesive strip. F 38 06 B 19 If the front RH side footwell trim panel () is fitted with a footwell light () or footwell light preinstallation (32), affix damping strip (19) as shown in the illustration. 32 F 38 07 B Place an M5 inserttype nut (18) on the relay holder () in the direction indicated by the arrow ().
