What is Panopto? Panopto is a lecture-capturing program available here at Saint Xavier University. Use it to simultaneously capture your screen in live motion, display PowerPoint presentations, and record audio feed. As learning becomes more technologically integrated, Panopto is here to bridge that gap and bring learning from within the classroom to the virtual world. Panopto is linked with Canvas, so any recordings created is uploaded directly into the desired course. Students have access to view the Panopto recordings through Canvas. 3
Downloading Panopto To locate Panopto within Canvas, log on and enter a Master Course. Go to Settings, select the Navigation tab, and drag and drop Panopto Recordings to the top list. Click Save on the bottom (See Picture 1). Picture 1 4
Now you are able to select Panopto Recordings, seen within the lefthand column. Select Click to open Panopto in a new tab to open Panopto (See Picture 2). Picture 2 Note: Students cannot access Panopto without Panopto Recordings being moved to the top list under Navigations within the course Settings (see Picture 2). Picture 3 5
Picture 3 shows the Canvas Panopto Homepage. Your recordings accumulate here for viewing. On the top-hand right side of the page click Download Recorder to download Panopto (see Picture 4). Picture 4 Follow the Download instructions. Click on the Panopto Icon (see Picture 5) to open the program. Note: Downloading Panopto is necessary for creating your recordings. Picture 5 The program homepage will open (see Picture 6). Through the Panopto program you can create your recordings. Picture 6 6
Logging into Panopto To log into Panopto, select the Log in button. For the first time, new window will open. Type Panopto.sxu.edu within the Server box (see Picture 7) and click enter. This will open the option to select the Canvas Panopto provider, seen within the Providers box (see Picture 8). You can then log into Panopto through the Canvas portal. Picture 7 Server: Panopto.sxu.edu Picture 8 You have the option for Panopto to remember your authorization. Do so by checking the button and clicking Log in (see Picture 9). Picture 9 7
An Overview of the Panopto Homepage Once logged in, you can create a recording by selecting the Create a New Recording button. A window will open with the Panopto Recording Homepage. See the various sections: 1. More details about this section are on pages (PAGES). 2. More details about the Slide options are on page (PAGE). 3. Details about Screen Capturing are on page (PAGES). 4. More details about your Audio and Video options are on pages (PAGES). 8
Your Recording Options Panopto provides various Recording options: Slides, Screen Capture, Audio, and Visual. Slides You have the capability to Record PowerPoint or Keynote Presentations through Panopto. Picture 10 Students will have the ability to review slides individually or with the audio/visual recorded using Panopto. Simply check the box of the desired application to connect it with Panopto (see Picture 10). Screen Capture You have the capability to launch Screen Capture by checking the box. Doing so, you are able to record ALL actions done on your screen while recording. Audio/Visual You can record both Audio and Video simultaneously. Locate your Audio Source by navigating through the selections in the box to the right. Locate a Video Source by navigating through the selections in the box to the right. 9
How to Record Before you begin recording, it is important to view your options within the Choose a Folder and Session region. Folder The Folder box allows you to choose the course you would like the recording to Picture 11 automatically be saved into when complete. To create a new folder, click the Plus Sign icon (see Picture 11). Recording Session Type the title of your recording within the Session box. If not typed in, a default title is given with the date and time of your recording. Once your have adjusted the Folder and Session and have selected your recording options, begin recording by selecting the Start Recording button on the bottom. Pause your recording at anytime by clicking the Pause button. Once finished with your recording click the Stop Recording button. 10
Saving and Viewing Your Recordings Once you click the Stop Recording button, you are brought to a page containing your Recordings, Recording Information, and a Preview. Recordings: The Recordings box contains all of your sessions and details including the Date, Length, and Status of each recording. Recording Information: The Recording Information box displays the recording s Folder, Session, Streams, Status, and Links. You can Delete a recording by clicking the Delete box. By selecting Actions you can see where the file is located. The Links given include View Online, when clicked the Canvas page of Panopto opens, and Share, which opens the Canvas Panopto page to the Share settings of the recording. Preview: The Preview box allows you to preview the Audio or Screen Capture. Do so by selecting one and clicking the Eye icon. A new window of the selection will open and play the recording. 11
Panopto within Canvas To access Panopto within Canvas, log into Canvas and select Panopto Recordings within the left column. Then click the link to open Panopto. This page displays all the Panopto Recordings saved to your courses. 12
1. All Sessions By clicking this you can view all the sessions accessible to SXU personnel. 2. Scheduled Any scheduled Panopto sessions are located here for viewing. 3. Bookmarked Any sessions you bookmark cumulate here. 4. All Folders All the courses you are liked to through Canvas are stored here. You can view the amount of Sessions within each course Folder. There are several options when selecting the green Create button. We highly recommend selecting the Record a new session option to create recordings. To learn more about options 2-5 (as seen on the left-hand image) contact cidat@sxu.edu. 1.Be selecting this, Panopto will open automatically. If Panopto has not been downloaded, it contains the Download links for both Windows and Mac. 2. To upload an existing video, click 13
Upload video and select your document. 3. Webcast allows Panopto viewers to see a Panopto recording as you are creating it live. However, we recommend Canvas Conferences or email cidat@sxu.edu for more information. 4. To schedule a recording or create reoccurring webcasts,, click this option. 5. Build a session allows you to combine existing slides, videos, and audio to form a your recording. 14
Editing and Deleting Editing Your Session To Edit the Name or Folder of your recording hover your mouse over a recording and when visible click Settings. In the new window select the blue Edit to change the Name or Folder of the Session. Click Save to solidify any changes. Deleting Your Session You can Delete your Recordings in multiple ways. Option One: Immediately after completing a recording within Panopto, a page with the Session, Recording Information, and Preview opens. Under the Recording Information section, you can delete the recording by selecting the Delete box. 15
Option Two: You can also open Panopto through the Canvas Portal and delete Recordings there. Select a recording by clicking the box to the left, and then click the Delete box. Option Three: Within Panopto through Canvas, place your mouse over the recording and select Delete when it becomes visible. 16
