CHECKPOINT CATALYST QUICK REFERENCE CARD Logging in to Checkpoint 1. Launch your browser and enter the Checkpoint address in the browser location bar. http://checkpoint.thomsonreuters.com The Checkpoint Login screen appears. Note: Bookmark this page or add it to your favorites so you will not have to retype the URL every time you want to access Checkpoint. 2. Enter your User Name and Password, and then click Login. The Checkpoint screen that appears depends on the Login and Search Practice Area settings in the General Setting Options. Note: You can use your user name and password to open only one Checkpoint session at a time. Select the Save Name/ Password checkbox to save your login information. You will not be prompted to enter your User Name and Password on future Checkpoint sessions. Ending a Session Remotely: Checkpoint does not permit multiple logins with the same User ID. If you are logged into Checkpoint on another machine or browser and attempt to login, Checkpoint will provide an option for you to close the original session and continue the login process. 2015 Thomson Reuters/Tax & Accounting. Table of Contents: Browse Checkpoint Catalyst by Topic or Subtopic Expand a Topic to view Subtopics within it Expand Subtopic to view the Outline for the Subtopic Keyword Search from Table of Contents Check the box next to Catalyst Library or any Category(s) or Topic(s); Enter Keywords in the keyword search field and click Search 2

Document Screen Document Screen from within a Subtopic 2 1 5 3 4 1 2 3 Use Show Full Topic to easily link to the full topic. Every subtopic begins with a Synopsis to provide a summary of that section. Collapse the entire section using the Show Less option to view only the synopsis. Note: When you link to a Subtopic from the Table of Contents, all paragraph numbers will be automatically expanded; when you link to a Topic from the Table of Contents, all paragraph numbers will be automatically collapsed. 4 5 Click on a numbered Footnote to reference Footnotes within the document or at the bottom and link to primary sources. Context Panel provides different tabs that help you navigate through topics and subtopics more efficiently. 3

Context Panel Contents The Contents tab provides a landscape of the content so that you can see where you are and also what is being discussed before and after. In addition the dark grey background highlights the Outline for the topic or Subtopic that is being displayed. Use the Contents tab to see where the displayed document is located in the Table of Contents and for easy navigation Dark grey background provides an Outline for the Subtopic or Topic displayed for easy linking within the document 4

Context Panel Tools The Tools tab contains links to all of the embedded workflow tools and other practice aids that are specific to the content within the Topic or Subtopic displayed. The set of tools provided vary from topic to topic. Use the Tools tab to view links to Tools available within the displayed Topic or Subtopic Open the available tools directly within the document in context Link to the Authority and Editorial Reference material Notes: If the Topic or Subtopic displayed does not contain any tools, the Tools tab will not be displayed in the Context Panel. If the word Launch appears before an embedded tool, the tool opens in a separate window. 5

Context Panel Featured Developments The Featured Developments tab lists any Federal and State updates related to the Topic that have been released in the recent past. The Featured Developments tab will be expanded by default if there are any new developments since the last update date. Use the Featured Developments option to view recent Federal and State and Local updates related to the Topic displayed Scroll to the bottom of Featured Developments and click on Find More to view additional Featured Developments if they are available 6

Context Panel Recommended Documents Recommended Documents tab provides you with immediate access to WG&L journal articles and Treatise documents (subscription sensitive) that are related to the Topic or Subtopic displayed. This option serves as a useful tool providing all the sources you need in one place. Recommended Documents provides links to WG&L Journals and WG&L Treatises related to the Topic or Subtopic displayed Note: If there are no recommended documents associated with the Topic or Subtopic displayed, the Recommended Documents tab will not be displayed. 7

Context Panel Search Results The Search Results tab in the Context Panel provides you with a list of search results for the source in context. This allows easy navigation through the search results. This tab is available only when you have navigated to the article from the Search screen and not from Table of Contents. Document tools allow you to Print, Export, Email, Highlight Text and Add Notes Search Results tab allows you to navigate through search results; Sorted by your default preference (Relevance or Table of Contents) Note: You will also see a Refresh icon listed in the document tools when viewing a full Topic. 8

Keyword Search Search Screen Keyword searching is the most common way to research on Checkpoint. Checkpoint's Intuitive Search technology recognizes if you have entered a sentence, a citation or used any terms & connectors, and produces results accordingly. 1 4 2 3 1 To perform a keyword search, enter keywords in the Enter Keywords field. Select a Keyword Search method: A Terms & Connectors search lets you provide one or more keyword terms, and an Intuitive Search identifies sentences, connectors, or citations and interprets your query accordingly. 2 Choose Sources to include in your search. Hover over a source and use the Book icon source in the Table of Contents in a separate window. to pull up that particular 3 4 Use the Thesaurus / Query Tool to help filter a keyword. Choose from Connectors to narrow your search, select from a list of previous keywords, or use the Restrictions tab to identify keywords you want to Require or Exclude from the search. Click Search. 9

Search Results Screen Search results are displayed based on your Search Result Default View. You can choose between the All Documents, Source List and Table of Contents view. The Green Stars indicate sources that contain the most relevant documents, providing you an easy way to rank your sources. Set Default allows you to choose how your search results are displayed right from the search results screen The Green Stars indicate sources that contain the most relevant documents Display all documents for this source or click on the source name Note: The default view for new users will be Source List. For existing users the default view will be what they have currently set. 10
