Creating a Flyer Open Microsoft Publisher. You will see the list of Popular Publication Types. Click the Blank Page Sizes. Double click on Letter (Portrait) 8.56 x 11 to open up a Blank Page. Go to File Menu > Page Setup. This will open the Page Setup Window. To the right side of the window is the Margin Guides section. Set Top, Left, Bottom, and Right to 0.5. Click OK. 1

Creating the Background Now we will make 2 rectangles that go side by side. The Rectangle Icon screen. is on the Objects Menu bar on the left side of the Upon drawing your 1 st Rectangle, it should have No Fill and a Black Stroke by default. We need one rectangle to be Black and the other to be Maroon. Click on the Rectangle icon to select it. Draw a rectangle on the left half of the page. It should stop at the 4 ¼ mark on the ruler at the top of the page. Click the Down Arrow next to the Fill Color icon on the Formatting Toolbar. The Fill Menu will open. Select Black. Click on the Rectangle icon to select it. Draw a rectangle on the right half of the page. Click the Down Arrow next to the Fill Color icon on the Formatting Toolbar. Click on More Fill Colors. 2

The Color Window opens which give you options to select Standard, Custom or Pantone Colors. Click the Custom Tab and set Red to 128, Green to 0, and Blue to 0. Click OK. The colored background should look like this: Adding Text Select the Text Box icon Insert Menu > Text Box. on the Objects Menu bar on the left side of the screen or go to Draw a Text Box across the top portion of the page. Select Ravie for the font; 48 for the font size; White for the font color; and Centered for the alignment. Enter the title: Aiden s Digital Photography. The title should look like this: 3

Create the four additional text boxes as shown below. Use Forte as the font and Bold the text. Use font size: 24 for "Full Service, etc." 16 for "Specializing in, etc." 24 for "Capture, etc." 16 for the address, etc. 4

Adding Shapes Select the Autoshape icon on the Objects Menu bar on the left side of the screen. The Autoshape menu appears. Go to Stars and Banners and select the 5 Point Star. Draw the Star on the flyer. Move, resize, and rotate as necessary to place it appropriately. Use White as the fill color. It should look like this: Next we will make the star transparent. Right click on the Star and select Format Autoshape. The Format Autoshape Window opens. In the Colors and Lines tab set Transparency to 54% and click OK. 5

Next, add a Drop Shadow to the Star. Click on the Shadow Style Icon Formatting Toolbar. located on the The Shadow Style menu opens. Select Shadow Style 4. Go back to the Shadow icon and select Shadow Settings to bring up the Shadow Settings Menu bar. Select the arrow to the right of the Shadow Color icon. Select Black from the drop down menu. This gives a Black shadow. Adding Graphics To add graphics, click the Picture Frame icon on the Objects Menu bar. Click on Clip Art to open the Clip Art gallery. Type in the necessary words in the Search for: textbox to bring up clip art to put in the flyer. It would be best to insert a graphic of the various items that Aiden s Digital Photography specializes in. Put 5 to 6 graphics inside the star and 1 below the star. Resize the graphics as needed. Give your graphics a border by selecting the Line/Border Style icon bar. on the Picture Menu The Lines menu will appear. Click on More Lines to bring up the Format Picture Window. 6

In the Colors and Lines tab, go to the Line Section and click on the down arrow next to Color and select White. Set the Dashed to Solid, Weight to 3 pt. and click OK. Next, add a Drop Shadow to the Image by selecting the Drop Shadow icon. Set the Shadow to Black. Repeat these steps for all of the images in the star. Use the Bring to Front icon them out. on the toolbar to change the order of the images as you lay Click the black arrow to the right of this icon to bring up the Order Menu or by going to Arrange > Order. Once you finish arranging your images your document should look something like this: Don't forget to Save your Flyer. 7
