To address this challenge, the IBM System Storage SAN768B and IBM System Storage SAN384B fabric backbones now offer additional options to provide: Reliable and cost-effective network infrastructure for End-of-Row/Middle-of-Row consolidation of I/O storage and networking ports at the server edge using Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), converged enhanced Ethernet (CEE) blade that helps organizations simplify their growing IT infrastructures. Fibre Channel and advanced Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP) technology that gives the 8 Gbps Extension Blade a flexible and extensible platform to move data. Whether configured for simple point-to-point or comprehensive multisite SAN extension, the 8 Gbps Extension Blade addresses business continuity, data retention, and global data access requirements. This blade has 24 10 Gbps converged enhanced Ethernet (CEE) ports capable of transporting both storage (Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)) and LAN traffic, IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2

reducing or eliminating the need for separate server adapters and cables for both SAN and LAN environments. The benefits of consolidation extend beyond the hardware. FCoE preserves Fibre Channel constructs and services, integrating into existing Fibre Channel environments. This enables organizations to increase the value of their current investments. In addition, FCoE extends the reach of Fibre Channel management applications and tools, enabling organizations to manage FCoE and CEE devices under a single, unified management umbrella. FCoE 10 GbE 24-port Blade includes: CEE ports: 24 ports with 10 Gbps line speed. No Fibre Channel ports that are on the FCoE 10 GbE 24-port Blade. FCoE support: FCoE functionality is enabled on the system when a #3880 blade is installed. FCoE features: Complete T11 FCoE entity and FCoE bridging. The FCoE translation entity built into the hardware engine provides: Detection of Fibre Channel encapsulation and redirection of FCoE fabric login frames Encapsulation of Fibre Channel frames in FCoE Ethernet packets Extraction of Fibre Channel frames from FCoE Ethernet packets Mapping of Fibre Channel destination Virtual Fabrics and destination FC_ID to Ethernet Virtual LAN and destination MAC addresses Fabric-Provided MAC Addresses (FPMAs) enable new Ethernet MAC addresses to be created using the FC_ID assigned by the fabric. Link aggregation (10 GbE): Standards-based Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) 802.3ad, Brocade enhanced frame-based trunking. sflow monitoring: sflow version 5 and RFC 3176 compliance for statistical packetbased and time-based sampling. 802.1x security: 802.1x authentication for switch-to-hba authentication: Authenticator support that enables a switch to authenticate a peer host or HBA. Multi-peer host or MAC authentication options that enable a switch to authenticate traffic from multiple peer MACs behind a hub/hba. Drop filter customization for LLDP: Enables unauthenticated ports to send LLDP PDUs based on destination MAC address. MAC support: 32,000 MAC addresses. Channel over Internet Protocol (FCIP) traffic forwarding over IP wide area networks (WAN). The 12 8 Gbps Fibre Channel ports and 10 1 Gigabit Ethernet port blade is designed to provide remote storage and SAN connectivity. It integrates a variety of capabilities, such as Fibre Channel routing, Storage-Optimized TCP (SO-TCP), hardware-based compression, write and read acceleration for disk and tape, IP Security (IPSec) encryption, FCIP trunking, and adaptive rate limiting designed to deliver a high performance, reliable, and secure distance-connectivity solution. The 8 Gbps Extension Blade is designed to support the following performance and optimization technologies. FCIP trunking is designed to virtualize two or more TCP connections as part of a single FCIP tunnel. FCIP trunking combines multiple IP source and destination address pairs into a logical high-bandwidth FCIP trunk spanning multiple physical ports to provide load balancing and network failure resiliency. These connections, called circuits, can be explicitly configured to be part of an FCIP tunnel to increase the tunnel bandwidth and provide failover paths in the event of a network failure. The functionality of the FCIP trunking and the additional TCP connections is intended to the applications using the FCIP tunnel. Adaptive Rate Limiting feature is designed to meet minimum bandwidth requirements for each tunnel while making the full utilization of the available network bandwidth without adverse throughput performance impact at high traffic load. Hardware-based compression is designed to deliver the ability to increase throughput over lower bandwidth links in the wide area network, supporting the cost efficiencies of FCIP. The 8 Gbps Extension Blade compresses FC frames before they are encapsulated into FCIP packets. FCIP QoS provides high, medium, and low-priority handling of initiator-target flows within the same FCIP tunnel for transmission over the WAN. FC Routing delivers fabric isolation in conjunction with FCIP, enabling separate fabrics to share devices without merging across the IP network. FCIP Fast Write accelerates SCSI write processing, maximizing performance of synchronous and asynchronous replication applications across high-latency WAN connections. Open Systems Tape Pipelining accelerates read and write tape processing over distance, minimizing backup and restore windows. Storage-Optimized TCP helps improve TCP window size and flow control, accelerating TCP transport for storage applications. Multiple logical FCIP tunnels (up to 8 in FOS V6.3; VE or VEx) allow for scalable connectivity between sites between two SAN06B-R models or when it is connected to a 8 Gbps Extension Blade. The 8 Gbps Extension Blade is designed to include the following attributes: Fibre Channel Ports: 12 ports, universal (E, F, Mirror port (M), Ex, and FL). FCIP Ports: 12 ports, 1 GbE Virtual E-port (VE) and two optional 10 GbE ports. Scalability: Full fabric architecture with 239 switches maximum. Certified Maximum: Single fabric is 56 domains, 7 hops. Multiprotocol routing fabric is 19 hops. Fibre Channel Performance: 1.063 Gbps line speed, full duplex; 2.215 Gbps line speed, full duplex; 4.25 Gbps line speed, full duplex; 8.5 Gbps line speed, full duplex. Auto-sensing of 1 Gbps, 2 Gbps, 4 Gbps, and 8 Gbps port speeds; optionally programmable to fixed port speed, speed matching between 1 Gbps, 2 Gbps, 4 Gbps, and 8 Gbps ports. ISL Trunking: Up to eight 8 Gbps ports per ISL trunk; up to 64 Gbps per ISL trunk. There is no limit to how many trunk groups can be configured in the switch. Fibre Channel Aggregate bandwidth: 96 Gbps, 12 ports at 8 Gbps data rate. FCIP Aggregate bandwidth: 10 Gbps, 10 ports at 1 Gbps data rate; 20 Gbps, 10 ports at 1 Gbps data rate and one port at 10 Gbps data rate; 20 Gbps, 2 ports at 10 Gbps data rate. Fabric latency: 700 nanosec with no contention, cut-through routing at 8 Gbps. Maximum frame size: 2,112-byte payload. Maximum MTU size: 1,500 byte Ethernet packets with FCIP. Classes of service: Class 2, Class 3, Class F (inter-switch frames). Port types: FL_Port, F_Port, E_Port, Ex_Port, M_Port, and self-discovery based on switch type (U_Port); for FCIP, VE port (virtual E port). Data traffic types: Fabric switches supporting unicast, multicast (255 groups), and broadcast. Media types: Fibre Channel: Hot-pluggable, industry-standard Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP), LC connector; Short-Wave Laser (SWL), Long-Wave Laser (LWL); Extended Long-Wave Laser (ELWL); distance depends on fiber optic cable and port speed; supports SFP (4/2/1 Gbs) or SFP+ (8/4/2 Gbs) optical transceivers. Fabric services: Simple Name Server (SNS); Registered State Change Notification (RSCN), NTP, RADIUS, RCS (Reliable Commit Service), Dynamic Path Selection (DPS), Brocade Advanced Zoning, WEB Tools and Extended Fabric. Optional Fabric Services include Fabric Watch, ISL Trunking, Advanced Performance Monitoring (APM), Integrated Routing, Adaptive Networking with QoS, FICON Control Unit Port (CUP) and Enhanced Group Management (EGM). The FCoE 10 GbE 24-port Blade (#3880) and the 8 Gbps Extension Blade (#3890) utilize the same Fabric OS that supports the entire b-type SAN product familyfrom the 8-port SAN Switch to the 768-port Fabric Backbone. This supports interoperability with optional advanced features such as ISL Trunking, APM, Fabric Watch, and Advanced Zoning. In addition, organizations can perform management and administrative tasks through familiar management tools, including the IBM System Storage Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM), Web Tools, and the command line interface. Moreover, optional FICON CUP capabilities enable legacy management applications to support FICON environments. Optional features Additional SFP+ optical transceivers in single and 8-pack convenience packages are offered to be used with the FCoE 10 GbE 24-port Blade. 10 Gbps SR (#2117) and 10 Gbps LR (#2151) SFP+. 10 Gbps SR (#2118) and 10 Gbps LR (#2158) SFP+. SFP Transceiver 1 GbE Copper (#2551). Inter-Chassis License, Half (#7882) provides connectivity from the switching backplane of one half of this SAN768B to another half SAN768B, or a SAN384B chassis. Inter-Chassis Links (ICLs): ICLs harness unused ports to connect the switching backplane of one SAN768B chassis directly with the switching backplane of another SAN768B or SAN384B chassis. This additional connection means does not consume usable ports. ICL connections operate as hardware trunked ISLs. Based on the configuration, it might be necessary to configure ISLs to complement the ICLs to ensure the desired bandwidth. The connection means is via copper cables between each of the core switching blades on the of SAN768B or SAN384B chassis. The copper cables are supplied by IBM and are 2 meters in length. Because of the short connectivity distance, chassis connected with ICLs will reside in the same cabinet or in adjacent cabinets. ICL cables may be connected in any fashion from one core blade in one chassis to the other core blade in the other chassis. The best thing to do is to connect the same connector or blade in each chassis for simplicity. ICLs are an optional licensed feature of the SAN768B. Feature number 7870 provides two cables and feature numbers 7882 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 5

or 7885 provides a license. These features must be ordered for each of the chassis using ICL connections. Use of ICLs does not collapse the two switch domains into a single domain. 8 Gbps Advanced Extension Activation (#7891): This license enables two advanced extension features, FCIP Trunking and Adaptive Rate Limiting (ARL), on the SAN768B or SAN384B systems. The FCIP Trunking feature allows multiple (up to ten in FOS V6.3) IP source and destination address pairs (defined as FCIP Circuits) via multiple (up to ten in FOS V6.3) 1 GE interfaces to provide a high bandwidth FCIP tunnel and failover resiliency. The ARL feature provides a minimum bandwidth guarantee for each tunnel with full utilization of the available network bandwidth without impacting throughput performance under high traffic load. ARL is performed on the FCIP tunnel connection to dynamically change the rate at which the FCIP tunnel transmits data through the TCP connection. ARL will use the information from the TCP connection to determine and adjust the rate limit for the FCIP tunnel dynamically. This allows FCIP connections to utilize the maximum available bandwidth. Each 8 Gbps Extension Blade (#3890) must have one 8 Gbps Advanced Extension (#7891) activation license installed. 8 Gbps Extension Blade 10 GbE Activation (#7892): This license enables up to 2 10 GbE ports on the 8 Gbps Extension Blade (#3890). With this license, two additional operating modes, in addition to 10 1GbE ports mode, can be selected. Either 2 10 GbE ports or 10 1 GbE and one 10 GbE ports can be configured on a #3890 blade when this license is activated. This license is available on the SAN768B and SAN384B model and one license applies for each 8 Gbps Extension Blade (#3890). Cable orders Fiber optic cable A fiber optic cable is required for attaching the SAN384B or SAN768B to the host system adapters or other storage area FC components. The cable can be customer supplied or ordered with the direct (2499-192 or 2499-384) in the lengths available. The attaching fiber cable must be 50.0/125 micron for distances up to 300 meters at 2 Gbps speed, 150 meters at 4 Gbps, or 50 meters at 8 Gbps. The attaching fiber cable must be 62.5/125 micron for distances up to 175 meters at 2 Gbps speed, 70 meters at 4 Gbps, or 21 meters at 8 Gbps. Longwave SFPs require 9 micron singlemode fibre optic cables. The connection is an LC connector type. In many situations, the required lengths and installation of fiber optic cables will be unique to each customer's configuration and facility specifications.
