But What is the true meaning of Christmas? Is Christmas only about gifts under the tree, the decorated home, the cards in the mail, the holiday dinners with family and friends, stockings hung from the fireplace mantel; shouts of Merry Christmas to those who pass us by? Again, is THIS the true meaning of Christmas? There is no extra money for presents let alone a special meal. Many are alone during this season and left with only their memories of a happier time. Yet Christmas can be a season of great joy. It is a time of God sharing His great love for us! It is a time of healing and renewed strength. You see, Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels all shared in the excitement of knowing about this great event. They knew this was no ordinary baby. The prophets had told of His coming hundreds of years before. The star shown over Bethlehem to mark the way for those who were looking for this special child. Why did He come? Why did God send His Son to this oftentimes cruel and challenging world? He sent Jesus so that one day He would grow to become a very important part of our history. His life story is one of TRUTH, LOVE and HOPE! His gift to us is salvation! Remember that Jesus is the reason for the season. Wishing you all a blessed Holiday season! De Colores, Lyle Shiffert

Board News Page 3 LONG TERM GOALS WEBSITE: We use our website as our main communication tool, along with Constant Contact, and are aware that it is outdated and that many of you have had a difficult time logging into your account. Technology changes daily and it is challenging to keep up with those changes, and costly too! A big thank-you to the team that took on the daunting task of creating it in the first place. And forward thinkers too! They knew that the future would show that many people would use the internet as their main communication tool. If you are having trouble logging into our website.contact Alan Adam @ nwoemmaushelp@roadrunner.com and he will be happy to assist you. We are looking at the possibilities of updating our system but with that comes additional costs, which is why it is a long term goal. We need time to collect all of the information and figure out what will work best for our growing community. More to come. DATA BASE: As you probably are aware, you are on our Emmaus data base. This is how you get called to be on teams or contacted about upcoming events. But our data base needs help. It is outdated. People move, change phone numbers and email addresses and forget to send us their updated information. We need this information. So please take the time to fill out a communication card (which we are handing out at the gatherings) or send your information to: Linda Heffner at Linda.emmaus.com SURVEY: We value your opinion and covet your input. We are looking at ways to send a short survey to the community. We will try to keep you in the loop about when you may expect this in your mail or inbox. We want to be better and need ideas from our most valued earthly asset you! As we go through this transitional time in our community please pray for our Emmaus International Board, for our local Emmaus board, our churches and future pilgrims.
