Project Note: Safe and Secure Amdavad (SASA) Smart City Ahmedabad inaugurated its Integrated Command and Control Centre under the Safe and Secure Amdavad (SASA) Project at Paldi, on 23rd of February, at the hands of Hon ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Vijaybhai Rupani. This occasion was also marked by the presence of MP Ahmedabad West Dr. Kirit Solanki, Local MLA Shri Rakesh Shah, Mayor Shri Gautam Shah, Deputy Mayor Smt. Pramodaben Suthariya, Standing Chairman Shri Praveenbhai Patel and Senior Officers of the Police Department. The Commissioner of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Chairman Smart City Ahmedabad Development ltd Shri Mukesh Kumar IAS demonstrated the functioning of the Command and control room. Presentation about the control room functionality demonstrating the integration, real time monitoring and control of various departments, was also made. The control room is equipped with state-of-the art technology. Covering an area of 2300 sq. mts, the building comprises of 4 floors, each with a height of 4.5 metres. It is designed for an expected life span of 75 years. The cost of the Safe and Secure Amdavad project is about Rs. 310 Crores, out of which an estimated Rs. 9.16 Crores has been used for the civil work of the building, while Rs.239 Crores will be used for installation of IT infrastructure and Rs. 62 Crores will be spent towards connecting 1576 points to the network at Paldi by BSNL. Furthermore, all the floors are installed with biometric RFID access control, high end HVAC system and CCTV surveillance system. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Smart City Ahmedabad Development Limited have together launched this project comprising of a 33 ft by 6.5 ft, 27 Element video wall that allows the monitoring of different public services in the city. The command centre also allows the controlling of various utilities, including the 6000 smart street lights that can be switched on/off and dimmed helping to saving electricity. The environmental sensors that have been installed across the city will detect the pollution level and other environmental parameters such as noise level in each ward. The project will also help control the traffic condition at various locations, creating 130 zero tolerance junctions by installing more than 6200 cameras and 126 VMD boards in Ahmedabad city. The following departments under Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation can be monitored and controlled through the Command Centre. 1) Water and Sewer SCADA All the details about the city s drinking water provisions can be viewed through the SCADA system located at water treatment plants at Kotarpur, Jaspur, Raska and across 140 water pumping stations across the city. The status about the quality and quantity of water supplied, pumps working at each location, the revenue for the service and the shortfall in supply can also be observed from the Command Centre so that immediate measures can be taken to rectify the issues identified. 2) Transport Systems The Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) allows surveillance of BRTS stations through the cameras installed at each stop. It also has the set-up for getting the live details about trips and what are status of buses, whether delayed or on time. 3) Complaint Redressal System Citizens complaints are closely tracked with Enterprise level ticket management system Comprehensive Complaint Redressal system. The cumulative data on complaints made by citizens in the CCRS system and the status of work done to resolve them can also be viewed through the Command Centre. 4) Solid Waste Management System- The GPS devices installed in 1140 waste collection vehicles by AMC provides the facility to monitor the route covered by them so as to ensure collection from all societies in the city. 5) echallan System To control the traffic situation of the city, the demonstration of Automatic Number Plate Recognition and Red Led Violation Detection was also provided, which in the near future can allow the identification of vehicles that are breaking traffic rules and can be penalized according to the law. 6) VMD screens- Under this smart city project, 126 LED display screens of size 7*3, showcasing advertisements, will also be installed across various strategic positions in the city to cover the operations and maintenance cost for the project. The demo of 14 LEDs which have already been installed was given on the inauguration day. 7) Lastly, status of Wi-fi points, smart street lights, environmental sensors, functioning of civic centres, fire emergency response etc. can also be monitored and controlled from this Control Room.
