1. Operation and Configuration System Summary Depending on the configuration, the Syberg NMEA Expander can be used in several environments. With configuration NMEA_D (Daugther Board), it is used as an expansion plug-on module to the Changeover Unit. It fits directly onto the male headers of J106, J206, J107, J207 and the bottom 4 positions of J500. NMEA 0183 inputs connected to this board are distributed onto input terminals of the Changeover Unit. This plug-on module replaces an external NMEA Expander and greatly simplifies installation. With configuration NMEA_SA (Stand Alone), It is used as a configurable, Stand Alone NMEA Expander. Standard, pluggable terminals are used on the component side for terminals XJ106, XJ206, XJ107, XJ207 and XJ500. +24 V is supplied to XJ500 and the board may be operated as 2 galvanically separate systems. The possible configurations are: 4 * 1 input to 4 outputs (2 in each galvanic system). 2 * 1 input to 8 outputs (1 in each galvanic system). 1 * 1 input to 16 outputs (The galvanic systems are interconnected). If interconnected to a second NMEA_SA an additional configuration is possible: 1 * 1 input to 32 outputs All IMO requirements are met or exceeded 3 of 20 20130325 Rev. B0
Input Power Supply, D Configuration In the NMEA_D configuration, NMEA Expander takes +24V from J500 of the Changeover Unit. Half of the Expander (Channel 1, +24V Supply 1) is supplied from J500-13,14 and the other half (Channel 2, +24V Supply 2) from J500-13,14. See fig. 1.1 LD100 and LD102 indicate presence of the input supplies. The Expander blocks the view of the corresponding LEDs on the Changeover board, LD107, LD106 respectively, and this is indicated in the component text. Each of the +24V supplies have their own +5V regulator for supply to the NMEA circuitry. Input Power Supply, SA Configuration In the NMEA_SA configuration +24 V is supplied to XJ500. Two separate supplies may be connected to XL500-13,4 and XJ500-15,16 for galvanically divided setups. If only one galvanic system is required, +24 V may be connected to either XL500-13,4 or XJ500-15,16 and the two supplies may be interconnected by JP100. Two jumpers are required to connect +24V and the separate Grounds (1-2 and 5-6) See fig. 1.1 LD100 and LD102 indicate presence of the input supplies. Each of the +24V supplies have their own +5V regulator for supply to the NMEA circuitry Fig. 1.1 Input Power Terminal and LEDs 4 of 20 20130325 Rev. B0
Signal Terminals, D Configuration Input Terminals J600 and J601 are the NMEA 0183 inputs. For flexibility, it is possible to supply different input signals to each separate output terminal source pair (group). Decide how you want to feed the groups. Each of the groups has 2 separate source inputs, one for J10x and one for J20x. (2*4 outputs from 2 input sets). If one *8 Expander is required for each Channel, the same inputs are used for both Groups, and only J600 is required. Interconnection to Group 2 is carried out with the jumpers J200 and J201 in the ON position, interconnecting pins 1-2 on both jumpers. If two individual *4 Expanders are required for each Channel, put both jumpers in the OFF position (connect pins 2-3), and supply separate input signals to J600 and J601. Group 1: Source 1: J600-1, 2: LD200 Source 2: J600-3, 4: LD202 Group 2: Source 1: J601-1, 2: LD201 Source 2: J601-3, 4: LD203 Each input signal may be monitored on separate LEDs as indicated on Fig. 1.2 below. Input Signal LEDs are on when current flows through the input, i.e. they flicker on when data is present. Jumpers JP100 and JP202 should be kept in the OFF position (connect pins 2-3 and 4-5) for this configuration. See figures 1.2 and 1.3 5 of 20 20130325 Rev. B0
Output Terminals The Output Terminals are plugged directly into the respective inputs on the supporting Changeover Board. Each output signal is monitored by a LED, located below the two rows of output terminals and marked accordingly. Group 1: Source 1: J600-1, 2 expands on (X)J106 Source 2: J600-3, 4 expands on (X)J206 Group 2: Source 1: J601-1, 2 expands on (X)J107 Source 2: J601-3, 4 expands on (X)J207 Output Signal LEDs flicker on when data is present at the Output. 6 of 20 20130325 Rev. Signal Terminals, SA Configuration Input Terminals J600 and J601 are the NMEA 0183 inputs. For flexibility, it is possible to supply different input signals to each separate output terminal source pair (group). Decide how you want to feed the groups. 1*16 Expander: If one *16 Expander is required, the same inputs are used for both channels and both Groups, and only J600 1-2 is required. Interconnection between Groups is carried out with the jumpers J200 and J201 in the ON position, interconnecting pins 1-2. Interconnection between Channels is carried out with the 2 jumpers of JP202 in the ON position, interconnecting pins 1-2 and 5-6. 2*8 Expanders: If two *8 Expanders are required, the same inputs are used for both channels, and only J600 is required. Interconnection between Groups is carried out with the jumpers J200 and J201 in the ON position, interconnecting pins 1-2. The 2 jumpers of JP 202 should be kept in the OFF position, interconnecting pins 2-3 and 4-5. 4*4 Expanders: If four individual *4 Expanders are required, put all jumpers, J200, J201, J202, in the OFF position (connect pins 2-3 and 4-5), and supply separate input signals to J600 and J601. Connect one or two Power Supplies as desired, see Operation, Input Power Supply, SA Configuration. See figures 1.2 and 1.3 Group 1: Source 1: J600-1, 2: LD200 Source 2: J600-3, 4: LD202 Group 2: Source 1: J601-1, 2: LD201 Source 2: J601-3, 4: LD203 7 of 20 20130325 Rev. B0
Output Terminals Each output signal is monitored by a LED, located below the two rows of output terminals and marked accordingly. Interconnection of two NMEA Expander Boards 1*32 Expander: If one *32 Expander is required, two Expander Boards are needed. Each Board is connected as *16 configurations, the same inputs are used for both channels and both Groups, and only J600 1-2 is required. Interconnection between Groups is carried out with the jumpers J200 and J201 in the ON position, interconnecting pins 1-2. Interconnection between Channels is carried out with the 2 jumpers of JP202 in the ON position, interconnecting pins 1-2 and 5-6. In addition, the two Boards are interconnected with a cable between the two Boards, using connectors J200 or J201. 8 of 20 20130325 Rev. B0
