Hello, and welcome to the Alexicomtech tutorial. I will show you step by step how to set up your interactive pages. Please feel free to ask questions at any time. The first step is to open your internet browser and in this example I will open Internet explorer, but if you feel more comfortable with Firefox, feel free to use that. Keep in mind that not all the instructions are exactly the same. They should be similar enough that it will not make a difference. Type in www.alexicomtech.com in the address bar. Now that you are on the Alexicomtech site, move your mouse so that hovers over the login label. You will see two blue fields pop up. They are Login and Register. Slide your curser over to the Login label and select it by left clicking on it. 1

The next window that should appears should be the Log In window as seen below. You will need to fill in your username and then your password. If you do not have an account for some reason, you could have selected register to create an account. Since you do have an account, please use that to fill in the fields below. Remember that you have a password that has letters and numbers. After you fill in the fields then click on the Login button below. If you type the wrong thing in either field, you will be prompted to try again. After three attempts, you will be locked out of the login system. This is to protect your account. You must contact the webmaster to unlock your account. So, after you have filled in the fields then you can click on the login button. 2

Once you have logged in click on Authoring Tools. You will get a three option menu appear to the right of it. Slide your pointer over to the Edit Pages option and select it by clicking on it. After you have selected the Edit pages option, the Edit Pages page appears. You must then select the client and what page you wish to edit. The client will be the name of the client that the account is for. There will only be one page under the page option initially. It will be a Home page with pre-made fields of three columns and three rows. After this point you may have multiple pages to choose from. Go to the next section in this tutorial to see the next step. 3

The client in this example is Fredi. If you have multiple clients then you will have multiple names shown when you click on the down arrow to view all the options. For our example we have only Fredi. Select Fredi and go on to the next step below. Once you have selected the Client, you must select the page you wish to edit. Click on the down arrow to view the selection of pages. In our example we have only Home and if this is your first time you will only have Home as well. Once you have selected the client and the page then click on the Load Page button. 4

Once you have opened the Home page you will see the three columns and three rows as we mentioned earlier. You will also see options and dropdowns for changing rows and columns for future pages. At this point however you need to click on the Edit button in the upper left most cell to open the first set of options for the first picture and word to be spoken by Alexicomtech. After you clicked on the upper left most button then you get your first set of options for your first picture and first word in the array. You will see several options for loading pictures. One is called Local image and is for loading images that you have saved on you computer already. Another one is called Web image and is for images that you find on the internet. The final method is called the Server image and is for images that you have already uploaded to your account at Alexicomtech. The other options are for if you want the word to be written below the picture, what word you want spoken by Alexicomtech and final the last option is if you want the picture to link to another page in your account at Alexicomtech. For our first example we will load an image from your computer, so we will select the Local image option and click on the Browse button. 5

After you click on the browse button, a new window will appear. It will usually be directed to you re My Pictures folder, but you can redirect it to any where you have your pictures. They must not exceed 600 x 600 pixels. If it does, then you will get a message that says that Images can be no greater than 600 pixels x 600 pixels For our example lets click on the pencil, and then click on open. You should then be returned to the authoring page with the selection you made in the section field. 6

The next step is to then fill in the word you want written below the picture and the what word you want spoken by Alexicom. So we will write pencil in the Text field and pencil in the Spoken field and nothing in the Links to field for now. After you have put pencil in the Text and Spoken fields click on the Update button to finalize the picture with its word. After you click on the update button the picture and linked word are complete. You will see the picture in the frame that you just edited. If you now click on the picture of the pencil then you will hear Alexicom speak the word you typed in the Spoken field. Try it! Now repeat the process of selecting pictures for the remaining fields if you have the pictures you want with the correct image sizes. 7

Now we will find an image on the Web. Pull up Google.com on your browser. Select the images link. Now select the advanced image search After you select the advanced image search you will get this page to fill out what word you want to type in for the image you want to find. 8

Fill in car in the first text field. And select medium for the size of the image. Then click on the Google Search Button 1 3 2 A whole selection of car images pop up with images sizes that are below 600 x 600 pixels for the most part. Let click on the funny looking blue car. If you look closely at the car you will see that it is 458 x 300 pixel image. This fits our requirements. 9

You will get this type of view next. Select the car again to get to the URL we need to use the picture. You will next get the image all by utself with the url in the address bar that you will need to copy and paste in the Web image text field. So right click on the url and select copy. 10

Right click in the Web image text field and select paste to put the url of the car picture in the Web image text field. Also fill in car in both the Text and Spoken fields and then click on Update to attach the picture with the car label. 1 4 3 2 After you select Update the authoring page will come back up with the image of the word car below it. Click on the picture of the car to test it out. Does it say car? It should! 11

Ok now we will select a picture from the Server. These are pictures that you have loaded before or ones that were loaded by someone else before into your account. Starting with the authoring page and selecting the first cell to edit, pull up the first set of text fields. Once you have this first cell select the drop down menu from the Server image to see the choices of images that are available. Now select the item you want from the dropdown menu, in this case lets pick ball.

Ok Now you can fill in the text fields for the Text and Spoken text fields. After that click on the Update button to load the picture and the word to be spoken. Alright! You have now learned three ways to post pictures on your account. From your computer, the web and the server. Try clicking on the ball to hear Alexicom Speak. Remember that you can put any image from any of the three ways as long as it doe not exceed 600 x 600 pixels. This limitation is to facilitate fast page loading during internet usage.
