Edit and develop a running club spreadsheet and chart As you work through, you will find help available in the, if you need to use it. Imagine you have been asked to help a running club for local children. You are to change a spreadsheet which has been created by someone else. It has been created to monitor the results of the 800m race. Open Microsoft Excel Open Microsoft Excel. Open a spreadsheet/file Open the Microsoft Excel workbook called SS L2 4.4-Running Club from the learner files. Save Save the file with the new name Running Club 1 to your folder. Insert a column Insert a new column to the left of column A. Drag and drop Use drag and drop to move the contents of B1 into cell A1. Select the cell range B19:B22 and drag it into the cell range A19:A22. Enter information Enter the information shown below into the correct cells. Cell A3 Shirt Number A4 1 A5 2 Text to be entered Autofill Select cells A4:A5. Use the Autofill facility to fill down to cell A16. Wrap text within a cell Click on cell A22 and wrap the text in this cell. Column width Change the column widths to allow all the information in the cells to be shown. Formulae In cell G4, insert a formula that will calculate the time taken in seconds. You will need to consider the BODMAS rule. Does your formula need brackets? You will need to work out the time in minutes x 60 to get it into seconds and then add on the number of seconds. Copy a formula to nearby cells (Autofill) When you have entered the correct formula into cell G4, use Autofill to copy the formula down to the cells in G5:G16. Format cells to number Make sure the cells F4:G16 are set to number and 2 decimal places. Make sure the cells B19:B21 are set to number and 2 decimal places. Show the formulae entered into each cell Change the spreadsheet to show the formulae entered into the cells. Check your work Check your formulae are correct. Change back to the normal view without the formulae showing. Functions Enter functions into the cells as shown below. Check your work Check your formulae are correct. Ask your tutor for help if you have any problems. Change back to the usual view without the formulae showing. Edit information Change the following information. In cell C10 change Coppell to Dakin. Kurt Anthony is 11, not 12. Dara Haider s speed was 2 minutes 47.4 seconds. A21 should contain the text Average Speed. Alignment Centre align the headings in cells A3:G3. Centre align the numbers in the Shirt Number column. Left align the cell range B19:B22. Fonts The headings in row 3 should be in bold and italic. The heading in A1 should be in Tahoma, red, font size 20 and bold. Borders and shading Select cells A3:G3 and apply red shading and an outside and inside border. (The border should go around each cell.) Select A4:G16 and apply a border to the outside and inside of the cell range. Select the cells A19:B22 and make the text in the cells bold and an outside and inside border around all the cells. Select the cells A19:B22 and apply red shading to the cells. Column width Widen the columns, if needed. orientation Set the page orientation to landscape. Print preview Print preview the worksheet. It should appear on one page. If it does not fit on one page, adjust the column widths. The columns should still be wide enough to show all the text. Sort information Sort the records into ascending numerical order of Time in Seconds. Save Save your workbook with the same filename. Print Print a copy of the spreadsheet. Change to show formulae and print a copy of the formulae. After printing, change back to normal view. (Not showing the formulae.) Create a chart Select cells C3:C16. Then hold down the Ctrl key to also select cells G3:G16 as well. Create a Column chart with the following features: No legend; Chart title - 800 Metres Race; X axis Runner; Y-axis title -Time in Seconds; Data labels should display the value of each bar; The chart should appear on a new sheet. Print Print a copy of the chart. Save Save your spreadsheet with the same filename. Close Close the spreadsheet workbook and Microsoft Excel.
