Our Digital World Online Companion Second Edition - Rep Guide June 30, 2012 Description The Our Digital World Online Companion, Second Edition, (ODW2e) is a hybrid tool designed to work directly with the Our Digital World, Second Edition, textbook. The ODW2e site is designed to give instructors an online learning management system that will work solely with the ODW2e digital content. The ODW2e companion site is actually a desktop application that installs from our website. Using Adobe AIR as a shell, the ODW2e application runs on both MAC and PC computers, using the Internet to send and receive information. Getting Started Rep Sales reps with experience using SNAP 2010 will find a similar set of tools for creating schools, instructors, and courses. The major differences are there are no books to choose from when adding a course and courses have only one section. As a sales rep you will be using the web portal to set up instructors and schools http://digitalworld2e.emcp.com/login/odwlogin.php?rep=1. Your instructors/students will install the ODW2e desktop AIR application from the Internet site http://digitalworld2e.emcp.com. After installation, instructor/student access to the application is from a desktop icon. The website guides instructors and students through the process of installing ODW2e. If an instructor/student returns to the website after installing the desktop application and clicks on Start Here!, the site will test to see if a current version of the application is installed on the desktop. If found, it will open it. If the website does not find a current version of the desktop application installed, it will install it and, if necessary, allow the instructor/student to register or login. Setting Up Instructors Follow these directions to create an instructor account in the ODWe2 application. 1. Access the Internet and navigate your browser, (Internet Explorer is preferred) to http://digitalworld2e.emcp.com/login/odwlogin.php?rep=1

2. Login using the same username and password from SNAP 2010; contact Tech Support if you need your login information. 3. From the Sales Rep Home page select Add Instructor. 4. Before adding the instructor, check to see if the College name is in the Pull-Down list located in the center of the page. 5. If the College name is not in the Pull-Down list, click Add New College on this page.

6. On the Create a School page, fill in the school information and then click Create new college. 7. The system will return to the Add a new user page. From here key in instructor information and then click Update profile. 8. An automatic email is sent to the instructor. 9. When the course creation page appears, name the course, select a start date and number of weeks, and then click Continue. It may take several minutes for the system to build the course. When finished, click Continue again. The course is ready for the instructor to use.

Instructor Access and Use of the ODW2e Online Companion The system will send an email to the new instructor with information on installing and using the ODW2e application. Instructors and students are required to install Adobe AIR and the ODW2e desktop application before they can begin using it. Instructors follow these steps to set up and use the ODW2e application. 1. Instructor receives email from the ODW2e system with log-in information and directing their browser to the website http://digitalworld2e.emcp.com. 2. Click Start Here! 3. Click Install in the Application Install dialog box. 4. Click Continue in the Application Install dialog box.

5. Click I Agree in the Application Install dialog box. 6. Windows Vista and Windows 7/8 machines will require clicking Continue in the User Account Control dialog box. 7. The ODW2e desktop application will place an icon on the desktop and then automatically open the ODW2e application. 8. The browser window used to install the ODW2e application moves to the background and can remain open or closed; it is no longer needed for the operation of the ODW2e application. However, a browser is used frequently in the ODW2e application by opening websites for activities.

9. Instructors login to the desktop ODW2e application using the profile sent via an email from the system. 10. If the instructor has a username and password from the ODW1e online companion application, their account information has been transferred to ODW2e. However, the instructor is required to create a course (after signing in) before using the application. 11. After logon, the ODW2e companion opens to the first course. Students need to create an account and register in an ODW2e course. During student account creation they will need the activation key, supplied with the ODW2e textbook, and the enrollment key, found on the Course Information page, when the Instructor selects the course name from the Course column in the ODW2e application. 12. If the instructor does not like the system generated enrollment key, click Change Enrollment Key, to create a new one. Changing the enrollment key will not affect students already enrolled in the course.

13. Navigating in the ODW2e application is easy. The design concept comes directly from Microsoft s Outlook application. The content within the ODW2e application is directly aligned with the ODW2e textbook. The three navigation columns are organized by course resources, activities, and content. a. The far left column filters for the course, chapter, and lesson. i. Clicking on the course name filters the specific course and shows the Course Information in the content column. ii. Clicking on the chapter number filters all of the lessons in the chapter. iii. Clicking on the lesson name lists all of the activities in the activities column. b. The middle column lists activities by chapter and lesson. Clicking on the specific activity will open the courseware content for that activity in the right column. c. The content, in the right column, is the actual courseware. Student Access and Use of the ODW2e Application Students are required to purchase the ODW2e textbook with an activation code to the companion site. In addition, they must receive the enrollment key for their course from their instructor. Students follow these steps for installing and accessing the ODW2e application. 1. Purchase textbook with valid activation code. 2. Receive enrollment key from instructor. 3. Follow instructions on activation card supplied with purchase of textbook directing their browser to the website http://digitalworld2e.emcp.com.

4. 5. From the ODW2e website click Start Here! 6. Click Install in the Application Install dialog box. 7. Click Continue in the Application Install dialog box.

8. Click I Agree in the Application Install dialog box. 9. Windows Vista and Windows 7/8 machines will require clicking Continue in the User Account Control dialog box. 10. The Our Digital World Companion desktop application will place an icon on the desktop and automatically open the ODW2e application. 11. In the desktop ODW2e application, click on Sign Up in the New Student? dialog box.

12. Fill out all of the fields on the New Account page, key in the Enrollment Key supplied by your instructor and the Activation Code from textbook purchase. Click Create my new account. 13. From the desktop ODW2e application, login with the username and password.
