Royal Life Saving e-learning user guide March 2016 v3
1. What is e-learning? Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) provides training in both face to face contact and online e-learning format for a variety of its courses. Also known as Online Education, e-learning has become one of the most common forms of adult education platforms. The program that RLSS is using for the e-learning content is called Moodle. Moodle is just the name of the software program that hosts the e-learning material and is not the name of the website that RLSS uses. To access the RLSS e-learning website go to http://online.lifesavingwa.com.au e-learning allows the students to learn with various mediums such as photos, videos, text and sound. It allows students to learn at their own pace at any location be that at home, school, café, place of business, anywhere really. If a student is finding the online version of the course difficult to complete or prefer not to utilise e-learning there is often a alternate course that you can attend (being full face to face contact) or download hard copy versions of the assessments. Contact RLSS for alternatives or download the hard copy version within the e-learning course.
2. Create a RLSS e-learning Account How to create a new account You will need to create an account to access RLSS e-learning courses. You may or may not need an enrolment key to allow access into your course; this will be advised either on your notification letter after your enrolment and payment or during the course by your trainer. Navigation to the e-learning website can be done via two options: 1. Typing in or bookmarking the website directly http://online.lifesavingwa.com.au Go to Login Box and click Create new account
Complete the details below: There are required fields in this form marked. Once the fields have been completed an email is sent to your email address. You will need to open this email and click on the link to activate your account. This is done to prevent Spam accounts being created. What if you do not get a verification email? In some instances when students use government or other organisation email addresses, the companies Spam Filter may prevent that email getting to you. Other instances may mean that email program has placed the email in your junk mail folder. You may want to investigate these options first. If this is not the case and you still cannot receive your verification email, then an authorised RLSS staff member can look up your details and manually confirm and activate your account for you. Contact our Training Department at RLSSWA on (08) 9383 8200 or email training@rlsswa.com.au.
3. Enrolling into an e-learning Course Courses can be found in a variety of ways, through (1) the main top menu or Highlighted Course Boxes, (2) through the course categories or (3) through a search function. All three options can be located on the front page.
Course Enrolment Once you have selected your course you must enrol yourself into the e-learning course. Some courses will require an enrolment key to be entered. If this is the case then you will be supplied an enrolment key in your Notification email letter you received when you enrolled and paid for the course online or you will be provided this during your practical session. Important! Any course that requires you to complete online content prior to attending the practical session will either provide you with an enrolment key in the Notification letter or will not require an enrolment key. If you do require a key and you have not received this it is important to contact RLSS to find out what the enrolment key is. 4. Lost password or username If you have forgotten your password or username you will be able to retrieve these by yourself. How is this done? 1. On the front page (http://online.lifesavingwa.com.au) where you enter your username and password in the login box you can click on Lost Password? 2. You can search via username or email address. Instructions on this page are as follows: To reset your password, submit your username or your email address below. If we can find you in the database, an email will be sent to your email address, with instructions how to get access again. Some common errors when trying to login are; Entering a username that is incorrect, such as using your email address instead of the original username. Entering a username you have been allocated from work or employer and not the original username you entered when signing up to RLSS e-learning. Wrong email address You may have changed email addresses since registering and now the password is going to an old email address and cannot be retrieved. In cases where you are unable to reset your password, an authorised staff member will need to do this for you. Please contact RLSS on (08) 9383 8200 or email training@rlsswa.com.au.
