nexo Backup is a very simple and powerful online backup solution. You choose which folders you want to backup, and nexo Backup will upload your files and protect the contents of those folders - it keeps a mirrored copy of your files securely online so that you can retrieve them at any time if they are lost or damaged. Files that are selected for backup are stored securely with nexo and can be accessed and restored through the web portal or restored using our Restore Software. As nexo Backup just makes a copy of the selected files from your machine to the cloud there is no additional space used on your hard drive. The Desktop Software installer will take you step by step through setting up your backups - it's so easy to configure...just follow the on-screen instructions. nexo keeps up to 30 versions of files uploaded to the servers so you can revert to a previous version if you made an incorrect change to a file and saved over the original. nexo also keeps any deleted files for 30 days to allow for recovery in the case of accidental deletion. Which Folders Shouldn t Be Backed Up? The nexo Backup product gives you the option to backup your important office documents, images, music, videos to the cloud. However storing every file from your computer to the cloud is not a good idea. This is because many of the files on your computer are specific to that installation, and will not work if they are placed on another machine. Adding unnecessary folders to your backup set will also increase the time it takes to upload your files to the cloud and in some cases will stop the files uploading that you wish to upload. Below we have written a list of the things you should not backup to the cloud.

Temporary Files Computers contain folders which store temporary files. These files could be from websites, programs, unsaved office documents etc. The contents of the temporary folder on your computer will constantly modify, with many files being created, updated, and deleted. The problem with backing up this folder is that it will be scanned by nexo, and will mark many files for uploading/updating on each scan. This will greatly increase the total time it takes for you to upload your files to the cloud and the temporary files are essentially inconsequential. Windows and Mac files Each Operating System contains their own set of essential system files and folders. As with the temp folder, many items in the operating system folder will also change and we be uploaded frequently. To reduce the time it takes to upload content we would suggest not backing up OS files. Backups using 3 rd Party Applications For example, Mac users have the ability to backup their entire hard drive using Time Machine. However due to the content being backed up using such system files, nexo does not support the backup or storage of other 3 rd party backups as they may contain system folders and files. Program Files When the software is installed files are placed in other areas of the computer and some other system files will be edited. We suggest that you do not back up program folders and instead back up the install files or folders. We suggest making sure the following files on Windows and Mac are not backed up:

Windows 1 C:\Windows folder 2 C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) 3 C:\Users or C:\Documents and Settings (you can select folders within the User accounts such as My Documents, My Videos, My Pictures, My Music, Favorites etc) 4 C:\Users\{username}\AppData 5 System settings 6 System files 7 C:\Users\{username}\Ntuser.dat 8 Live databases (exchange, SQL, SAGE, etc) - any database that is constantly in use 9 Your entire hard drive 10 Backups using other 3 rd party applications 11 Websites Mac 1 The entire /User/ folder (you can select folders within the User accounts such as Documents, Videos, Pictures, Music etc.) 2 The entire /Library/ folder 3 Applications Folder 4 Utilities Folder 5 Downloads Folder 6 Public Folder 7 Trash 8 Time Machine 9 Websites How to remove files from Backup To remove files/folders from you Backup: 1. Click on the nexo icon 2. Select Manage Backups 3. Navigate to the folder you wish to stop backing up, and deselect the item 4. Click OK Once the item(s) has been deselected, they will be marked for deletion and You have 30 days to restore deleted files permanently removed from the servers after 30 days.

Expand your username folder 6. Select the data folders you wish to backup 7. Click OK Please note: nexo only stores data folders only (documents, music, videos, pictures). We do not backup entire hard drives. That's it! You have just created your first backup! After the initial backup is complete you can always modify the backup selection later on. How to Check Uploaded Files The easiest way to check which files have been uploaded successfully to your nexo Cloud is to login to your web portal. Checking Uploaded Files 1. Login to your web portal 2. Click on Backup or FileShare tab (...and for Business Users Team Folders) Successfully uploaded files will be in full colour.

Checking Your Backed Up Files The files that you have backed up are all available from your secure web portal. Simply login with your nexo account e-mail address and password, and click on the Backup tab - you'll be able to browse your files just like your computer. You can download single files, stream your movies and/or music *.mp3 and no DRM, view your office documents and display your photos right from within your web browser! Configure your Backup Scheduled Scans Learn how to set up your schedule scans settings for your nexo Backup. Once your initial backup is complete, you can set your nexo software to run schedule scans of your files and folders to checking for any changes made to the file. nexo will upload modified files during the scan and save the file as another version. The schedule scan can be set to backup once every hour (up to once every 48 hours), between certain times or real time. To configure your nexo schedule scans 1. Click on the nexo icon 2. Select Manage Backups 3. Click on the Settings tab 4. Choose your schedule scan settings - Realtime or Scheduled backup

-------- Please note Selecting real time scans requires the application to be closed before the scan can occur. For example, if you are working on a Word document, nexo won't be able to back it up until you have saved and closed the file. Real time scan:.pst - If wish to backup your Outlook.pst file with real time scan, nexo won't be able to back up the.pst file until you close Outlook, and if nexo is backing up your.pst file then Outlook will not be able to be opened. nexo is not a service but an application therefore requires you to be logged in during transfer or scanning of files. Restore a previous version of a Backup file When a file is edited or amended a file selected for backup on your computer, nexo will upload the full file and save the file as another version. nexo keeps up to 30 versions of a file...and you can restore any of these versions at any time from your web portal! These files do not contain any useful information - excluding them means you only back up the things that matter to you. The excluded files and folders are listed below. Please note this list cannot be changed: Mac Users: Establishing a Connection for Selecting NAS Files Having problems when backing your NAS device? Files not enabled for backup?

When connecting to a server the Mac OS default to backup your NAS is AFP (Apple Filling Protocol). However when backing up a NAS with nexo, we use SMB (Server Message Block) to establish a connection. Mac Users: How Do I Force a Backup Scan to Start Manually? nexo Backup runs on schedule scan of the files you have selected to backup. You can however force a scan of your files as follows: 1. Click on the nexo icon 2. Select Status 3. Click on Scan Now under the Backup section or click on Detailed Status and press on the Scan Now button nexo will then scan all your backed up files for any changes. Any changes detected during the scan will be uploaded and saved as another version of the file in your web portal.

Mac Users: How to Add Folders to Backup Learn how to add folders to your nexo Backup. You can amend your backup selection after your initial backup is complete. To add folder to the backup selection: Please note: only select data folders (documents, videos, music, etc). Do not select your entire hard drive for backup. Method 1 1. Click on the nexo icon 2. Select Manage Backups 3. Expand your Users folder 4. Find your username 5. Select the folders you wish to add to backup 6. Click OK ---- Method 2 1. Select the folder you wish to backup 2. Any files removed from your backup selection will be marked as deleted online, and will be held for for 30 days before being permanently removed from our servers.

Understanding the Backup Process The nexo software goes through several stages when backing up your computer: 1. Scan for new and changed files - the nexo scan runs through all the files and subfolders of the folders you nominated to backup or in the FileShare 2. Updates are detected (file creations, deletions or moves) are detected and added to the Status queue 3. The software creates the folder structure on our servers, and creates file place holders for all the files 4. New or changed files are sorted by priority and added to the Upload queue. 5. The software runs through the Upload queue, filling the file place holders with the file content. Please note that the more files you choose to backup, the longer the scan takes, and the longer it will be to replicate the folder structure on our data centre. Depending on the number of files you chose to upload, the initial scan can take a few hours to complete - it needs to constantly be talking to our servers, creating file placeholders, and folder structures that mimic what is on your computer.

Once the initial scan and backup is complete the later scans run through much more quickly. nexo will only then backup files which have been added to your backup selection and and any files that have been changed since the last scan. What is De-Duplication? nexo gives each file a hash which is essentially its own fingerprint.when you select a file or folder to backup the software searches for files which have the same fingerprint or hash, and if it already exists on our servers, it will copy the file instead of getting the nexo software to upload the file again.even after you have deleted files and folders, they remain on our servers for 30 days, and after this time are permanently removed. Using this technology (deduplication) we prevent customers having to upload entire files and folders they may have previously uploaded to our servers. Windows Users: How Do I Force a Backup Scan to Start Manually? nexo Backup runs on schedule scan of the files you have selected to backup. You can however force a scan of your files as follows: 1.
