Key prerequisites InfoPrint 4100 Models MS1, MD1/2, HS2, HD3/4, HS3, HD5/6 Planned availability date February 20, 2009 Description Enhancements to the InfoPrint 4100 include the following. A detailed explanation of each item follows. InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 1

Enhancement Package #1 (#9620) Universal Forms Control Sensor (#4571) Toner Collector Bag Switch (#4573) Lower Tractor Jam Detection Sensor (#4572) Dual Tractorless Vacuum Drive (#4575, 4576) Direct Mail (#4941) Tractored and Tractorless Forms Id (#4581) CCD with InfoPrint Version 7 Toner (#9478) Change CCD to InfoPrint Version 7 Toner (#9558) Support for Tractorless MICR printing Additional CCD with InfoPrint Version 7 Toner (#4488) Paper Cooling System - "L" (#9230, 4230) Paper Cooling System - "Inline" (#9231, 4231) Cooling System - "H" (#9232, 4232) Paper Walkover - 500 mm (Inline) (#4579) Paper Walkover - 750 mm ("L") (#4580) Enhancement Package #1 (#9620) - Initial order only Enhancement Package #1 (#9620) provides the following: Toner Collector Bag Sensor (#4573) Lower Tractor Jam Detection Sensor (#4572) Paper Underpass (RPQ #8B5867) Microcode Enhancements that include enhanced cutsheet emulation and remote terminal support Additional information for this feature: Minimum number of features: 0 Prerequisites: InfoPrint 4100 Model MS1, MD1/2, HS2, HD3/4, HS3, HD5/6 with the InfoPrint POWER tm Controller and version 15.6, or later, microcode Corequisites: Models HS3, HD5, and HD6: CCD with V7 Toner (#9478) Models MS1, MD1, MD2, HS2, HD3, HD4: None Compatibility conflicts: Cannot order feature number 9476 (Enhanced Printing Supplies Version 2) on the Models HS3, HD5, or HD6 with this feature Plant installation: Yes, feature number 9620 Field installation: No Universal Forms Control Sensor (#4571) This feature provides a registration sensor that is moveable across the entire width of a form. The capability provided by this sensor is normally most useful in a tractorless (pinless) environment. This sensor is also a look up/look down sensor that can read black marks on either side of the paper. It also allows items such as a customer logo (that are normally printed on a document) to be used as a registration mark. InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 2

When a modulated registration mark is printed by printer #1, this sensor eliminates the need for a separate barcode for side-2 verification. Minimum number of features: 0 Prerequisites: InfoPrint 4100 Model MS1, MD1/2, HS2, HD3/4, HS3, HD5/6 with the InfoPrint POWER Controller (#4800, 9650) and version 15.6, or later, microcode Corequisites: None Compatibility conflicts: Cannot have feature number 4570 (Dual Toner/Mark Side Verify Sensor) Plant installation: Yes Field installation: Yes Toner Collector Bag Switch (#4573) - MES order only This feature provides a sensor to detect when the toner collector bag is full. An operator alert message is sent to alert the operator to change the toner collector bag. This positive detection of a full bag prevents the over-filling of the collection bag. Minimum number of features: 0 Prerequisites: InfoPrint 4100 Model MS1, MD1/2, HS2, HD3/4, HS3, HD5/6 with the InfoPrint POWER Controller and version 15.6, or later, microcode Corequisites: None Plant installation: No, can be ordered as part of feature number 9620 Field installation: Yes, feature number 4573 Lower Tractor Jam Detection Sensor (#4572) - MES only This feature provides a sensor that is installed prior to the transfer drum. This sensor looks across the width of the paper (in the scan direction) and can detect any "accordion" type irregularities in the paper. When these defects are sensed, the paper is stopped immediately. Early detection prevents paper jams as well as possible drum damage. The advantage is increased printer availability and decreased printer down-time for repair. Minimum number of features: 0 Prerequisites: InfoPrint 4100 Model MS1, MD1/2, HS2, HD3/4, HS3, HD5/6 with the InfoPrint POWER Controller (#4800, 9650) Corequisites: None Plant installation: Can only be ordered as part of feature number 9620 Field installation: Yes, feature number 4572 InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 3

Dual Tractorless Vacuum Drive (#4575) - Initial order Dual Tractorless Vacuum Drive (#4576) - MES This feature improves tractorless (pinless) paper performance for heavy weight papers by providing dual tractorless vacuum drive units that maintain better paper tension during start stop. The advantages provided by the dual vacuum units include better print quality at startup and improved paper registration for tractorless printing. This feature requires that a form greater than 13 inches in width be used. This feature requires an InfoPrint 4100 Model HS2, HS3, HD3, HD4, HD5, or HD6. Minimum number of features: 0 Prerequisites: InfoPrint 4100 Models HS2, HS3, HD3, HD4, HD5, or HD6 Corequisites: None Limitations: This feature requires that a form greater than 13 inches in width be used. Plant installation: Yes, feature number 4575 Field installation: Yes, feature number 4576 Tractored and Tractorless Forms Identification (#4581) This feature is an enhanced version of the previous forms ID feature (#4464). Enhancements include: Both tractored and tractorless modes are supported. The previous feature only supported tractored. Simplified configuration options since this feature does not use a pre- or post-processing slot. The Tractored and Tractorless Forms Identification feature ensures that the form required for a specific application, or print job, is actually the form loaded in the selected printer. The identification is performed by comparing a barcode on the form to the form defined in the print job. The value of the Forms Identification feature includes increased operations performance and quality, reduced operations costs, and improved operations control. This feature consists of a mark sensor, associated electronics, mounting brackets, cabling, and microcode, which are ordered and installed on a per-print-engine basis. The Forms Identification feature reads a preprinted barcode as the form is moving through the printer. The form barcode is checked at two levels: First, it is checked at the host where the form barcode specified in the Define Form configuration is compared to the form defined by VFYSETUP. Second, the barcode specified in the Define Form configuration is compared to the form number read from the preprinted barcode on the loaded form. If the forms identification barcode specified in the Define Form configuration does not match the forms identification number specified by the VFYSETUP, then the host will not send the job to the printer. Therefore, the forms identification barcode specified in the Define Form configuration must match the forms identification number read from the loaded form or the printer is stopped with a form mismatch error. The use of this feature requires that a barcode be preprinted on the forms. The barcode is a custom binary barcode that can represent up to 65,535 decimal form numbers. For those InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 4

customers who are using alphanumeric form numbers, some restrictions do apply. The alpha characters are limited to A, B, C, D, E, and F, and the number is limited to four characters. When using the alpha characters for specifically assigned purposes, the form number is assumed to be hexadecimal. The translation from form number to barcode is directly from that four-character hexadecimal form number to the binary barcode. When using alpha characters in the form number, you must take care not to duplicate the decimal equivalent form number. A specification describing the barcode, its position, and orientation is available in the latest Form Design Reference. Also, Professional Services can be contracted to produce the required artworks for you and your forms vendor, as well as assist you in FORMDEF updates. In a duplex system, if only printing duplex print jobs, only one feature is necessary and it must be ordered and installed in print engine 1. If the duplex system is also being used in the dualsimplex mode, and forms identification is required, then two features, one feature for print engine 1 and one feature for print engine 2, must be ordered and installed. Minimum number of features: 0 (per printer engine) Prerequisites: An InfoPrint 4100 Models HS2, HS3, MS1, HD3, HD4, HD5, HD6, MD1, MD2 Compatibility conflicts: Cannot be installed with feature number 4464 Corequisites: InfoPrint POWER Controller (#4800, 9650) Plant installation: Yes, feature number 4581 Field installation: Yes, feature number 4581 Direct Mail (MS1, MD1, MD2) (#4941) This feature provides hardware and printer adjustments to support a heavy paper commonly used in the direct mail industry for unenveloped mailing pieces. The paper is typically referred to as nine point coated stock. The paper is nine thousandths of an inch thick and coated with a matte or glossy finish. Thinner coated stocks may also be used, such as eight point or seven point. This feature provides hardware to improve the toner fusing on this type of paper. This support is not based on weight, or any single property of the paper. The smoothness, and content of the paper are all key to the solution. It does not provide universal support for any equivalent weight paper. Holes or labels and cards attached to the form may prevent its ability to feed properly. Printing on preprinted or varnished areas will have degraded fuse quality, depending on the screen density of the ink. This paper is supported in simplex or duplex mode on the InfoPrint 4100 Models MS1, MD1, and MD2. This feature (#4941) must be ordered for both the MD1 and MD2 in a duplex printing configuration. Duplex printing is supported in L, Inline, and H Configurations. The paper characteristics supported are: Basis weight: 61 pound Bond, 152 pound Text or Offset, 225 gsm, 9.5 point maximum Finished weight (with ink and varnish): 63 pound Bond, 157 pound Text or Offset, 233 gsm, 9.5 point maximum Caliper: 0.0092 inches, 0.234 mm maximum Porosity: 80 seconds Gurley Smoothness: 2.5 Parker print surface rating Description: Coated freesheet (free of groundwood), matte or gloss finish InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 5

Model MD2 - An additional PTFE Mat that prevents toner from sticking to the preheat platen is required with this feature. PTFE mats must be ordered as supply items. These are only for engine 2 (MD2) in a duplex configuration. This mat supplies are not required for simplex or dual simplex printing. It is the customer's responsibility to provide any additional pre- and post-processing equipment needed to handle the print forms. This may include urge units, walkovers, and other paper path modifications. An urge unit is required when printing in duplex with heavyweight forms when using Direct Mail Print feature. It is also the customer's responsibility to order the additional PTFE Mats. The same supply items used on the InfoPrint 4100 Models HD4 and HD6 are used on the Model MD2. Prerequisites: InfoPrint 4100 Model MS1, MD1, or MD2 Corequisites: None Limitations: An urge unit is required when printing in duplex with heavyweight forms when using this Direct Mail Print Feature. Pinless mode is not supported. Plant installation: Yes Field installation: Yes Direct Mail Supply Items Description InfoPrint 4100 Model MD2, HD4, HD6 PTFE Mat Part Number 44D8244 Yield for these supply items is highly variable and is dependent upon toner coverage, paper smoothness, and operating conditions of the printer. Actual usage must be used to establish the supply's life in your applications.
