ONUG PoC Right Stuff Innova.on Award To celebrate vendor dedication to the development of innovative open cloud-based solutions, ONUG will present the Right Stuff Innovation Awards to those companies that best address the Working Group Initiative Proof of Concept guidelines at ONUG Fall 2017 A panel of independent industry analysts will act as judges using criteria developed by working group members WHY The ONUG Community views hybrid multi-cloud as a fundamental building block for digital transformation, and it s our hope that the Right Stuff Innovation Awards will foster an encouraging and collaborative environment for the vendor community to build the solutions IT executives are looking for to increase options, choices, and agility WHEN 10-minute Proof of Concept (PoC)* presentations will take place within the PoC Theater throughout the 2-day ONUG Fall Conference, and the Right Stuff Innovation Awards will be distributed on October 18, 2017
How to PARTICIPATE To be considered, your company must be demonstrating at ONUG Fall 17 The PoC guidelines will be distributed and posted on the ONUG website by end of day September 17, 2017 To schedule your PoC demonstration time, email Mira Woods (mira@onug.net) and Emily Hunt (emily@onug.net), and please note if you would like to be considered for an ONUG Right Stuff Innovation Award For FAQ, please visit here: http://www.onug.net/onug-right-stuff-innovation-awards/
M&A Posi.on Statement The M&A Working Group s framework consists of a Monitoring and Analy=cs architecture that collects and derives informa=on from physical and virtual infrastructure (e.g., compute, storage, network, management systems) and applica=ons, independent upon physical loca=on be it on or off premises (e.g., public cloud). Data is ingested into a data warehouse or data lake so that data and event visualiza=on and correla=on, monitoring and other opera=onal use cases are possible in the opera=onalizing of the infrastructure.
Scope of M&A PoC Entrants are encouraged to address one, or ideally, more of the following M&A Working Group Areas of Focus: Applica@on Assurance Infrastructure Assurance Network Assurance Each of these is defined further in the following slides. Entrants should demonstrate how their solu@on is relevant to hybrid environments, including legacy physical, virtualized, private and public cloud playorms. Entrants are encouraged to read: An introduc@on to Monitoring & Analy@cs requirements, ONUG 2017 M&A Working Group [hpps://www.onug.net/ home/onug-spring-2017-downloads/monitoring-analy=cs-white-paperspring-2017/]

PoC Area of Focus Applica.on Assurance Applica@on Assurance For the purposes of this PoC, applica@on assurance is the task of ensuring that an applica@on is available, responsive and func@oning as expected. Applica@on op@miza@on and debugging features may be included, but are of secondary focus. Example approaches include: synthe@c transac@ons, wire data analy@cs, applica@on and database agents, applica@ons logs Example KPIs include: Applica@on response @me (excluding network delay) Number and type of any errors returned by the applica@on Dependencies between components of the service, shared enabling services, e.g. DNS and NTP, and upon third-party services Is the applica@on reachable?
PoC Area of Focus Infrastructure Assurance Infrastructure Assurance For the purposes of this PoC, infrastructure assurance is the task of ensuring that network and applica@on infrastructure is available, responsive and func@oning as expected. Infrastructure includes compute, storage, network devices, management systems (physical and virtual) Example approaches include: device APIs, controller APIs, agents, logs Example KPIs and metadata include: Hypervisor, container and cloud informa@on CPU, Memory, Storage usage Errors Environmental factors State tables
PoC Areas of Interest Network Assurance Network Assurance For the purposes of this PoC, network assurance is the task of ensuring that an network is available, delivering expected performance and correctly configured. Network Assurance can be considered as a subset of Infrastructure Assurance Example approaches include: passive wire data analy@cs, flow informa@on Example KPIs include: Profile of traffic on a link Network delay contribu@on to applica@on response @me Metrics related to quality of service markings Virtual network iden@fiers, e.g. VLAN, VRF ID, VNI, VSID Microbursts, packet loss and jiger Is the site reachable?
Judging Criteria Support for hybrid mul@cloud environments (40%) Does the solu@on work for hybrid environments including legacy physical, virtualized, private and public cloud playorms, and correlate across them? Ease of Deployment and Opera@on (40%) How easy/hard is it to deploy and manage the solu@on? Func@onal Coverage (20%) Does the PoC address mul@ple Areas of Focus? Threshold for receiving award: 70%
