Description WebSphere Everyplace Service Delivery V5 increases the reach of new and existing applications across mobile or land line networks to mobile computing devices and users. It is a proven solution that reduces risk, time-to-market, and integration challenges. WebSphere Everyplace Service Delivery V5 components and features offer the Service Delivery Platform necessary for a Service Provider to meet their business objectives. The integration of the components and features enable a pluggable and scalable approach to network delivery. Building new services on a common infrastructure eliminates the silo problem that is common in the Service Provider industry. You can start mobile e-business quickly by installing and using the features of WebSphere Everyplace Service Delivery V5 that are required to help meet your business objectives. You can grow quickly by adding new features and capabilities as necessary. WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal enhances and improves the user experience. Support for the mobile portal navigation model enables more usable and flexible navigation on wireless devices. A mobile portal represents a set of pages with menu links (text or icons) that navigate to a sub-menu or content page. WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal also offers: Navigation, personalized experience, multi-device rendering User registration and profile management from land line Web sites Security, access control, single sign-on Aggregates any mix of applications into a unified display The device-specific adaptation of WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal offers the following benefits: Defines an Model View Control (MVC) structure, modes, and view states Offers services for storing data, single sign-on, content access, and more Includes integration services such as click-to-action, page sequencing, enterprise applications, and collaboration Separates portlet development from page layout and branding Supports application integration on the screen Diversity of mobile devices continues to increase, as do their capabilities. Devices differ in their physical characteristics (screen size, keyboard), as well as in the markup languages supported by their browsers. Providing a high-quality user experience is increasingly dependent on device-aware tooling and runtime device recognition that can optimize delivery based on device-specific capabilities. Features of WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal include: Enablement 204-051 -2-

An easy, cost-effective way for content and application providers to deliver revenue-producing content and services, and minimize the complexity of integration -- Device-independent markup language ( write once, render many ) called XML-based Device Independent Markup Extensions (XDIME) -- Access to a database containing mobile device characteristics -- Tooling support for application development markup/layout editors, samples, APIs, documentation -- Templates for rapid site development and enforcement of style guidelines -- XSLTs to translate existing markup to new XHTML and future XHTML devices Tooling For application developers, the Everyplace Toolkit provides access to pervasive services through the WebSphere Studio tools. The Everyplace Toolkit is based on proven technologies and uses open standards to increase application usage. Manage Mobile Pages Portlet A design-time portlet for Portal Administrators and marketing personnel to create mobile portal style navigation. The mobile pages navigation tree is stored in the navigation model of WebSphere Portal, and consists of nodes that represent pages, URLs, labels, or portlets. At runtime, the XDIME aggregator displays the navigation created by Manage Mobile Pages. Manage Mobile Pages also supports the configuration of meta-data for each navigation node and portlet on a page. Some meta-data will be standard (device characteristics, icons) and understood by the XDIME aggregator. Configuration of custom meta-data is also supported, but a custom aggregator or other functionality would be required to use this data. Support for meta-data configuration enables a higher quality user experience by fine-tuning content delivery based on device type and capabilities for instance, filtering image and audio content when a device does not support those features, or filtering content based on device type or manufacturer. At runtime, the aggregator queries the meta-data for a node to determine whether the corresponding page, URL, label, or portlet will be included in the display output. Manage Mobile Pages portlet will create the navigation for wireless devices and PDAs, and support the configuration of meta-data as provided by the Extended Attributes Configuration Portlet. Preload Notices Typically informational pages that are optionally displayed after a link is selected and before it is displayed. They may be used to insert special promotional advertisements, notify users of billable charges associated with a selection, or provide a warning regarding the content to be displayed. Manage Mobile Pages portlet will: -- Allow configuration of where preload notices appear in the navigation -- Allow selection of pre-defined rules for determining when a preload notice is displayed -- Provide a mechanism for navigation to flow from the preload notice to the target link XDIME Aggregator The role of an aggregator in WebSphere Portal is to collect information about a user s request, select related pages or portlets, and aggregate the output for display. The XDIME aggregator extends the existing aggregation support in WebSphere Portal to XDIME. When the WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal receives a request from a device, the XDIME aggregator uses the navigation tree created by the Manage Mobile Pages to select and aggregate the output (pages, portlets, URLs) in XDIME. During the process of aggregation, the aggregator evaluates the meta-data attributes for each navigation node. For instance, the aggregator queries the attributes to display appropriate icons or alternate text. Also, the device capability attributes are compared with those defined by the device policy database to determine whether to present the corresponding page, URL, or portlet for the node. The aggregator also supports display of preload notices. XDIME Portlets A set of XDIME portlets is provided to demonstrate out-of-box capability, and as samples for development purposes. -- My Favorites, Weather, Mobile Welcome, Reminders (view only), and World Clock (local time only) Multi-Channel Server (MCS) MCS is the runtime component that transforms XDIME input by matching it with policies in the device repository to generate device-specific sites. The runtime supports generation of multiple markup languages, including XHTML Basic, XHTML Mobile Profile, WML, and HTML. The runtime will be integrated with the WebSphere Portal via Portal Filter and Portlet Filter integration. Portlets generating XHTML-MP, XHTML Basic, or WML markup will utilize the Portlet Filter to render its content via WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal. The Portlet Filter applies an XSLT style sheet as part of the transformation. Two XSLTs will be included (custom XSLTs can be created as needed): -- XHTML Mobile Profile or Basic to XDIME -- WML to XDIME Repository of mobile device policies Policies define visual presentation elements (such as, page layouts and style sheets) and device attribute information. The repository is queried by the runtime to generate device-specific markup, and is also consulted by the Manage Mobile Pages, XDIME aggregator, and tooling. Everyplace Toolkit V5.0 for WebSphere Studio The Everyplace Toolkit for WebSphere Studio is an extension to WebSphere Studio for WebSphere Everyplace Service Delivery application development. The Everyplace Toolkit provides the necessary tools to develop portlet applications for mobile devices. The following components of the Everyplace Toolkit are targeted for WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal: -3-204-051

Java Portlet Wizard which includes markup support for the following mobile markups HTML WML CHTML XDIME WebSphere Studio-based Policy Manager, which is used to create policies that are referenced in the XDIME markup and used by MCS to make the best decision for emitting device-dependent markup to a target device, will be included Sample XDIME portlet application MCS runtime and XDIME aggregator support for the Toolkit unit test environment (UTE) Toolkit UTE extensions to support the MCS runtime and XDIME Aggregator Note: Everyplace Toolkit V5.0 for WebSphere Studio requires WebSphere Studio Site Developer V5.1 as a prerequisite. The customer must purchase WebSphere Studio Site Developer V5.1 separately. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on the IBM eserver. You should benefit from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent. IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. By using the news page, it enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eserver system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM Warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems. -5-204-051
