Connect & Go with WDM PON Ea 1100 WDM PON ericsson deep Fiber access Connectivity Begins in the Access
Speed, connectivity, Efficiency In much the same way the worldwide web changed the traditional voice centric telephone network to the internet; video and social networking is now compelling the internet to change to a higher speed and higher quality network all the way to the end user. Add also the fact that not only are people connecting to people but people to devices and devices to devices and as a result the number of worldwide network connections accelerates towards 50 billion. Combine connection speed with the exponentially increasing number of connections and one realizes that the fixed access network is dependent on fiber optic technology. With Fiber to the Home (FTTH) being the ultimate fixed access network end game and Passive Optical Network (PON) being the most economic FTTH architecture, Wavelength Division Multiplex (WDM) PON combines the virtues of point-to-point dedicated connections with the fiber efficiencies and economics of PON. Ericsson WDM PON combines WDM and Ethernet technology on the EA 1100 platfrom. WDM provides the transport capacity and Ethernet provides the service connectivity. Connect and go at 40 gigabits per second The EA 1100 WDM PON provides dedicated, point-topoint, Gigabit Ethernet connections for up to 32 users on a single PON. There is no sharing of PON bandwidth among multiple users and thus no multi-access control (MAC) protocol needed. No PON MAC protocol means simple Connect and Go. (OLT) and the Optical Network Termination (). Just as a radio must be tuned to the radio station, an s color must be matched to one of the colors of the OLT. The EA 1100 WDM PON system provides automatic wavelength locking between the OLT and the through remotely seeded technology. This technology employs an OLT optical energy mechanism (the seed) which provides the means for the optical transceivers on a particular PON port to automatically tune and stayed tuned or locked to a corresponding OLT wavelength to form the optical channel. As a result, any can connect to the PON without having to assign it a PON wavelength. This simple and elegant colorless technology allows for the use of cost focused optical devices with operation over extended temperature ranges. LTE Mobile backhaul at gigabit speed More people and devices now connect via mobile access. Combining more and more connections with greater and greater speed requires ultra-high speed mobile backhaul. With mobile communications moving from 2G to 3G and now Long Term Evolution (LTE), mobile backhaul has moved from a few E1/T1s to Gigabit Ethernet. The EA 1100 Ethernet-base platform facilitates TDM and packet data convergence for low latency, protected transport on WDM. As a result, TDM and packet mobile services from multiple operators can be served on one platform. Ericsson s complete line of mobile backhaul solutions provides the best solution for the right application. Now with the EA 1100, up to 32 Radio Base Stations (RBS) can be backhauled at 1 Gbps each over 40 Km. The EA 1100 provides not only the ultra-high speed transport but a platform for deploying carrier Ethernet based services. Data aggregation, security, quality of service and traffic management enables any IP based service from any number of service providers to be deployed. Connect and go to the enterprise Business demands high-speed enterprise connectivity and service. Upgrading the fiber infrastructure with Ericsson WDM PON means multiplying the fiber capacity thereby enabling gigabit rate business bandwidth with less equipment and lower power. Service providers can offer full Gigabit Ethernet connectivity with support for TDM services for up to 32 enterprises over 40 km without any active equipment between the Central Office and the enterprise. The EA 1100 platform uses standards based pseudowire technology for converging legacy TDM services with packet transport. TDM services either can be terminated at the EA 1100 or passed on through to the network. s for GE, FE, T1/E1 services Dedicated Gbps connections 40 Gbps WDM PON T1/E1, FE and GE services CO/PoP Fiber in the riser 1:32 Passive equipment in telecom closet cost effective 40 Gbps to the building. 1 Fiber EA 1100 OLT n x GE 3
Access open to all The opening up or the unbundling of the access network can be done in a variety of fashions. Depending on local government regulation, a network operator may be required to allow service providers access to the physical cable plant or capacity on the network equipment. The EA 1100 platform s architecture and technology provides the ultimate in unbundling flexibility. With the EA 1100, network operators can allow service providers access at the fiber or bit stream level. When fiber unbundling is required, network operators have traditionally built point-to-point networks. However, by means of Ericsson WDM PON, a fiber port gain of 32 is achieved for fiber unbundling thus relieving fiber distribution issues at the Central Office. This allows a network operator the ability to cost-effectively scale the fiber network while at the same time provide unbundled point-to-point connectivity. The EA 1100 is a high-capacity, carrier grade, Ethernetbased service platform that provides standards based virtual connectivity with QoS mechanisms and security. Thus, bit stream unbundling is available for providers of Enterprise and Residential triple-play services.
