Embedding a YouTube Video into a Bb Course Site Embedding as a Content Area 1. Go to your course site in Blackboard and Turn Edit Mode on. (upper right corner) 2. Go to the area where you want to put the video. Click on the Build Content menu and select "YouTube Video" in the far right column (under the Mashups tools). a. Type in, or copy/paste the title, or the URL, of a video link you d like to embed in the search field. b. Click the Go button to retrieve a list of YouTube videos. c. Click Select underneath the thumbnail of the YouTube clip you wish to embed. d. Add explanatory text for students if necessary in the Description text box. e. Select a View from the View dropdown list, and choose whether or not to show YouTube information and URL from the Mashup Options area. You will have options that you can explore. Using the Thumbnail View option will give the students a small image of the video. This smaller image may be the best view as the page load will be lighter than if you embed the full video. 3. Attachments- If you have a document that you want to attach to this embedded video, click the "Browse My Computer" button to search for the file and attach. Link Title the text you type here will show to the student as the link. (ADA suggests descriptive links. Something like "Click here to view " works well.) Add Alignments TCC does not currently have this option. 4. Standard Options- Select the additional options, if any, or change options you want for this item. Track Number of Views this does not work the way you think it will. Most people do not use this feature. 5. Click Submit. Embedding in the Text Editor 1. Go to your course site in Blackboard and Turn Edit Mode on. (upper right corner) 2. Go to the area where you want to put the video. a. This can be done when you create a new item, or it can be done when editing. i. The example will demonstrate editing an already existing content area. 3. Click the chevron next to the item you wish to embed a YouTube clip, and select Edit. 4. Go to the Description Area and click the Mashups drop-down menu, and select the YouTube Video link. a. Type in, or copy/paste the title, or the URL, of a video link you d like to embed in the search field. b. Click the Go button to retrieve a list of YouTube videos c. Click Select to choose the video you d like to embed in the text editor. i. Select a View from the View dropdown list, and choose whether or not to show YouTube information and URL from the Mashup Options area. ii. Choose whether or not you d like the URL and YouTube information to show. d. Click Submit to embed the clip within the Text Editor of the content item, link, etc. i. This does not save the changes until you are finished editing the content and clicking the final Submit button. e. The YouTube clip will then be embedded within the Description area of the content, item, link, etc. f. Make any other additional changes, and click the Submit button to finalize the updates. Student View Embedded as a Content Area To view the area as the student would see it, turn Edit Mode off. (upper right corner) The student sees a preview of the video and a link to click on to view the clip.
