Overview With the release of (SM9), both reading and math courseware are accessible on a variety of mobile devices for hosted or locally deployed customers. Assessing Compatibility Pearson wants your student s SuccessMaker experience to be positive and productive. Review the mobile device system requirements below and see the full SM system requirements, available at Announcements and Resources. If necessary, work with your Pearson representative to determine if your school s technical configuration is compatible. Mobile/Tablet System Requirements Browser and Operating System Support Approved devices are based on a supported operating system, RAM, and screen resolution. Supported Browsers Supported Mobile Operating Systems Chrome OS ios 9 Android 4.4 (KitKat) Windows 8.1, 10 client (excludes Windows RT) Google Chrome version 45 or later (32-bit Windows ; 64-bit Mac OS X) N/A Internet Explorer 11* (32/64-bit) Safari 7.1.8, 8.x, or 9.x (64-bit) N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A 1

Supported Browsers Supported Mobile Operating Systems Chrome OS ios 9 Android 4.4 (KitKat) Windows 8.1, 10 client (excludes Windows RT) Mozilla Firefox 44 or later N/A ** N/A (32-bit Windows; 64-bit Mac OS X) *For IE (Internet Explorer), only the desktop version is supported. Microsoft Edge and Metro versions are not supported. **While we expect the supported versions of the Firefox browser will work on an Android device, not all aspects of the student UI have been fully tested in this configuration. For best results, when running the courseware on an Android device, use the Google Chrome browser. Fluency is not supported on ipads at this time. For fluency recording on all other mobile devices listed in this document, use Firefox. Hardware Requirements Hardware Requirements Screen Size: 9.7" or higher Dual Core processor or higher RAM: 2GB RAM: 4GB for Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 client Apple lists ipad technical specifications by hard disk storage size capacity, for example, 16GB or 32GB, and does not commonly include (RAM) specifications for the various ipad models. Storage size capacity and RAM are two distinct specifications: Storage size capacity is the amount of disk space needed for installing applications. RAM is the amount of temporary random access memory available for running applications. 2

Bandwidth Requirements Wireless Spectrum: 802.11A or 802.11N in 5 GHz spectrum Internet bandwidth: SuccessMaker requires a broadband connection with a minimum connection speed of 1.5 Mb/s with reliable throughput. IMPORTANT: Portrait mode for tablets is not supported. If students attempt to run the courseware in portrait mode, some text and images may not display properly. Pearson does not recommend or support the use Guest mode browsing on Google Chromebooks when accessing SuccessMaker. 3

Getting Started with SM on Mobile Devices Verify that the devices you plan to use meet the hardware, operating system, browser, and bandwidth requirements as shown above, and then do the following: To sign in to SuccessMaker: 1. Open the supported browser. 2. In the browser s address box, type your schools unique URL. The SuccessMaker ENTER HERE page appears. 3. Select ENTER HERE, and then sign into SM. To exit an assignment and sign out of SuccessMaker: 1. Do one of the following: In the reading course, select the blue Close button in the upper-right, to end your session and save your session progress data. In the math course, select the Menu button on the left to open then menu, and then click the Close button to end your session and save your session progress data. 2. Select Log out on the Assignments page to sign out of SM. The SIGN IN page displays. IMPORTANT: You should always close the course with the Close button, and Log out of SuccessMaker when finished running the courseware. If the browser window is abruptly closed, or a student on an ipad presses the Home button twice, and then swipes up on the browser window in which SuccessMaker is running, session data may be lost, the user left "online", or the license may be left "in-use" for up to 30 minutes. This can prevent other students from being able to sign in and run the courseware during that time. 4

Preparing Students to Access Courseware from a Touch Screen Mobile Device In general, students running the SuccessMaker courseware through a supported browser on a supported mobile device can use standard gestures common to most mobile devices with touchscreen capabilities. The list below provides some explanation and tips about using the courseware tools and navigation on a mobile device. IMPORTANT: Portrait mode is not currently supported. If a student attempts to run the courseware on a mobile device in portrait mode, some text and images may not display properly. Students should use landscape mode only on all mobile devices. IMPORTANT: By default, the Allow Multiple Apps and Gestures features are enabled on an ipad. These feature cause instability in the math and reading courseware. If left enabled, the students may see a white screen or a freeze condition if they swipe from the far right portion of the screen to the left during a session. To disable these features on an ipad, select Settings > General, and turn off Allow Multiple Apps and Gestures. For additional information on optimizing performance on wireless devices, see WIRELESS OPTIMIZATION TIPS AND CONFIGURATION RECOMMENDATIONS Running Reading Courseware 1. When a student begins a new reading course on an ipad or Android mobile device, a Play button appears. Tap the Play button to continue. 2. After the opening character animation plays, select the Ferris character in the 5

lower-right corner, to begin the course. Reading Player Audio When the course begins, instruction audio begins automatically. To replay audio, tap the word or sentence. In reading passages, the student can tap and hold text to play the rollover audio. The text color changes to orange and a narrator reads the selected text or word that an image represents. In some LOs, the student can tap a word to hear the word or word part read aloud. The volume control in the left menu bar, is unavailable for videos when running a reading course directly from a mobile device. Use the volume control on the device to increase or decrease the volume when the left menu bar volume control is unavailable. IMPORTANT: If Suppress Audio is set to On for the assignment: Passage text audio is disabled for Text Reader and Reading Portal Learning Objects and the Read to Me button is disabled, preventing the student from hearing the passage text read aloud. Auto play, hover text, and click-to-play audio for the passage text WILL NOT play. Instruction audio, activity questions, answer options, Glossary entries, and Coach prompts WILL play. For more information on the student experience with the reading course, see the Reading Reference Guide, available on the Announcements and Resources site. Running Math Courseware 1. When a student begins a new math course on an ipad or Android mobile device, a Click To Begin button appears. The student must tap the button to proceed in the 6

course. This button also appears when the student receives a new reward animation. 2. After the opening character animation plays, choose a character. 3. When the first LO displays, tap the Play button to continue. 4. After answering the question, tap the Done button, and then tap Next to move to the next LO. 5. Tap the Play button to begin the LO. 6. Once you have mastered an LO, you'll receive a reward animation. Tap the Click to Begin button to play the reward animation and continue through the course. Math Player Audio n When the course begins, instruction audio begins automatically. To replay audio, tap the speaker icon next to the question or feedback text to play the corresponding audio. n For all audio, use the volume control on the device to increase or decrease the volume. For more information on the student experience with the math course, see the Math Reference Guide, available on the Announcements and Resources site. Frequently Asked Questions Q: As a teacher or administrator, can I use my mobile device to work in the teacher and administrator dashboards? 7

A: Yes. You can access SuccessMaker using a supported browser on a mobile device by typing the SM host address of the school s web server and signing in with a teacher or administrator Username and Password. To run reports, you must disable pop-up blocking in the mobile device browser settings. Q: My student accidentally tapped one of the links on the Sign In page. How does he get back to SuccessMaker? A: If a student taps the Link to MyTrainingConnection or the Get support at Pearson Community Connection link on the Sign In page, the site opens in an additional tab. Close the newly opened tab or select the SuccessMaker tab to reopen SM. 8

SuccessMaker App for ipad The SuccessMaker App for ipad is a virtualization solution that provides the full SuccessMaker experience for students using Internet-connected ipads. This solution allows customers, with ipads that do not meet he recommended hardware specifications for native access, an option for accessing the SM courseware on an ipad. If the students' ipads meet the specified requirements listed in the Mobile/Tablet System Requirements section of this guide, Pearson recommends you access SuccessMaker natively, through the Safari browser. The SuccessMaker App for ipad solution is designed for student use only and is available on request to SM9 Pearson-hosted customers. SuccessMaker App for ipad is not available for locally deployed customers. Getting Started Assessing Compatibility Pearson wants your student s SuccessMaker app experience to be positive and productive, so your Pearson representative will work with you to determine if your school s technical configuration is compatible. 1. Determine if your school s configuration is generally compatible with the SM app s System Requirements. SM App for ipad System Requirements Hardware, Software, and Technologies SuccessMaker Version: Hardware: Operating System: Minimum Requirements SM9 Pearson-Hosted (Cloud). Your school s SuccessMaker URL must end with ".smhost.net (e.g., https://*.smhost.net). ipad 3+ with 9.7-inch screen ios 9 9

Wireless Spectrum: Internet bandwidth: Browsers: Proxy/firewall: 802.11A or 802.11N in 5 GHz spectrum 1 Mb/s per concurrent ipad usage For example, if you expect 20 students to use the SuccessMaker app for ipad at the same time, then your available bandwidth must be at least 20 Mb/s. Safari or Chrome (required for initial set-up only). After the initial set-up, a browser is not used. Allow SuccessMaker to make an initial connection to https://pearson.endpoint.livecirrus.com, and then allow TCP access to *.amazonaws.com on port 80 and port 443. 2. Confirm your school s available bandwidth by contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or perform your own testing to determine your available bandwidth. See the Pearson Community Connection s Knowledgebase Article 5439 for detailed information for performing a bandwidth check. 3. If your school meets the minimum system requirements, your Pearson representative may request the following information about your school to initiate the setup process with Sales Operations: Customer account number Pearson Hosted Customer URL Estimated maximum number of concurrent student users (highest number of students you expect to use the SuccessMaker app s solution at the same time) Estimated amount of available bandwidth in the classrooms that will use the SM app. 4. Within 48 hours, Sales Operations will send you an email that includes the following: A unique tinyurl address established for your school that is used for the initial installation of the SuccessMaker app on each ipad. The, including initial installation instructions and FAQs. Pearson Technical Support contact information. 10

Downloading and Installing the SuccessMaker App for ipad Before a student can use the SuccessMaker app, a Teacher or Administrator must complete the following initial-setup tasks on each ipad using the unique URL provided by Pearson. 1. On the ipad, search for SuccessMaker in the App Store. Your search may find multiple SuccessMaker applications; select SuccessMaker from LiveCirrus, Inc. 2. Tap Free to download the SuccessMaker app. 3. Tap INSTALL APP icon to install SuccessMaker. 4. Tap the Home button to return to the ipad Home screen. 5. In the Safari or Chrome browser s address box, type the URL provided by Pearson. The standard SuccessMaker start page appears. 6. Tap the Home button to return to the ipad Home screen. The SuccessMaker icon is displayed on the ipad Home screen and ready for student use. Preparing Students to Use the SuccessMaker App for ipad In general, students running the SuccessMaker courseware through the SuccessMaker App for ipad can use standard gestures common to most mobile devices with touchscreen capabilities. Since the student s experience is somewhat different from using SuccessMaker on a desktop computer, your students may need your guidance with some functions: Opening and closing the left menu bar When using the SM App for ipad, the show keyboard button displays immediately below the left menu bar MENU button in the math course but in front of the left menu bar MENU button in a reading course. In math, click the top of the Menu button, just above the keyboard to access the menu: In reading, the MENU is unavailable. This will prevent the student from accessing the Glossary and Check Progress buttons, but otherwise does not prevent the student from full access to the reading course and tools: 11

Using the Live Cirrus Keyboard Button in math In a math course, when tapping into an answer box, the ipad keyboard opens. Do one of the following: Use the ipad keyboard to enter the answer, click Done to close the ipad keyboard, and then click Done to submit the answer. Click Done to close the ipad keyboard, select the number from the keypad, and then click Done to submit the answer. Due to the virtualization aspect of the SM App for ipad, Fluency is not available. The Fluency setting should be turned Off for courses/assignments to be executed using the App for ipad solution. Frequently Asked Questions Q: Why is the course s audio occasionally skipping? A: Generally, skipping audio occurs when the wireless Internet connection speed and/or available bandwidth is insufficient to meet your concurrent usage requirements. To provide a positive overall experience, the SuccessMaker app requires at least 1 Mbps of available bandwidth per ipad. If concurrent student usage exceeds your available bandwidth, performance issues will occur. 12

For example, if your school has 20 Mbps of available bandwidth, then no more than 20 students can use the SuccessMaker app at the same time without experiencing performance issues. Q: What should I do if my student attempts to sign in to the SuccessMaker app and sees a message indicating it failed to connect to LiveCirrus? A: If the connection to LiveCirrus fails, instruct your student to wait a few seconds, and then try signing in again. In most cases, the second attempt to sign in will be successful. Q: As a teacher, can I use the SuccessMaker app to work in the teacher dashboard? A: No, the SuccessMaker app is designed for student use only and does not fully support the functionality of the teacher s dashboard. You can access SuccessMaker using a Safari browser on an ipad and typing the Pearson Hosted school server s URL followed by /lms/teacher in the browser s address box. For example, http://[school s servername]/lms/teacher Q: My student accidentally tapped one of the links on the Sign In page. How does he get back to SuccessMaker? A: If a student taps the Technical Support - Community Connection, Privacy Policy, Training Support My Pearson Training, Privacy Policy, or Terms of Use links on the Sign In page, the site opens in kiosk mode without a navigation toolbar, and displays the message This webpage is not available. Tap the Home button on the ipad and wait approximately 2 minutes before tapping the SuccessMaker icon to reopen SM. 13
