Secure energy supply Energy Automation for Infrastructure and Functional Buildings Power Transmission and Distribution
Imagine the finals of the Soccer World Cup, with the score at 0:0 after overtime. The next penalty shot will decide over victory or defeat. The striker runs up, is poised to kick the ball and suddenly there s a blackout! Absolute concentration in operating room II. During open heart surgery the patient becomes unstable. Every minute counts. A bypass has to be inserted and then there s a power outage! These are terrible scenarios, not just for football fans and patients. A reliable power supply is essential for the functioning of our modern infrastructure. Without it, public buildings and functional buildings such as sports and recreational parks, exhibition centers, stadiums, shopping malls, office buildings, hospitals, theaters, etc. would not be possible. We provide an uninterruptible power supply with high availability for modern infrastructures with our proven energy automation systems that operate reliably around the clock. 2
A complete solution for all requirements Totally Integrated Power from Siemens Siemens has developed an end-to-end power supply system specially for functional and industrial buildings. Our Totally Integrated Power (TIP) solution platform contains all power supply components, from medium-voltage level through low-voltage distri bution to the emergency power supply and the incorporation of building automation. The energy automation system is a central element of the TIP concept, since protection and automation concepts in functional buildings must be individually matched to the constantly growing demand for electrical power. Failure of the power supply can have fatal consequences. Apart from material damage, power outages frequently also endanger human life, for example if an intensive care ward or operating room of a hospital is without electricity even for just a short time. Our tailored solutions for automation of the power supply focus on the four core areas of protection, power quality, stations automation and energy management. They protect your facilities against possible damage and guarantee consistent quality of your power supply and of downstream processes in your buildings and equipment. Automation of the power supply ensures rapid and, most important of all, correct reaction to unpredictable events in the power supply network, thus making it possible to avoid potential interruptions in the supply. We can only guarantee reliability and a supply of electrical power that is adequate for requirements because we look at the power supply in its entirety, starting with the infeed from the local power supplier or in-plant generation. We can tailor your power supply to your precise requirements by means of suitable and correctly sized medium-voltage systems and a reliable low-voltage distribution system for secure and economical operation. Energy automation from Siemens end-to-end and reliable Greater performance in the system An end-to-end energy automation system comprises all systems the infeed from the local power supplier, integration of the emergency supply, as well as the low-voltage distribution level. In addition, important building automation signals as well as signals from the fire-alarm system can also be mapped in the same system. The central component for information processing and controlling of the system is our automation system SICAM, which is networked with the individual detection units (protection devices, distributed IO-units) and the operator terminal. The actual operator interface of the energy automation system is displayed on this PC by using SIMATIC WinCC, which is globally standardized for operation and automation systems. Open for communication To connect the protection devices in the infeed and medium-voltage distribution system, we rely on commonly used international communication standards such as IEC 60870-5-103, Profibus DP, Modbus or the new standard IEC 61850 based on Ethernet technology. IEC 61850 not only contains a generally valid description of the communication messages but also, for the first time it includes precise specifications and rules for describing the entire system for protection and automation within a station. IEC 61850 also defines the rules for direct communication between the protection devices (GOOSE mechanism), as well as between equipment from different manufacturers. As a result, functions can be carried out faster and independently of a central control system directly in the switchbay. To link signals from the low-voltage distribution system (circuit-breaker positions, measured values for current, voltage, active and reactive power, cos phi and energy, as well as warnings and alarms) we use proven standard components, for example from the SIMATIC family, which are connected to the energy automation system via Profibus or Modbus. The right solution Naturally, we also integrate your energy automation system optimally in your system landscape. For the coupling and exchange of information with other systems important for the operation, such as building automation, we use OPC (OLE for Process Control). Coupling to master control systems can also be implemented by means of the IEC 60870-5-101 or IEC 60870-5-104 protocol. In order to guarantee failsafe operation and reliability we can provide redundancy for parts of your system according to your requirements. And of course, we also offer highly fail-safe concepts and solutions for the other components used (PCs, switches, control systems). 4

Energy automation from Siemens performance made to measure Our energy automation systems are always designed and optimized to meet the specific requirements of our customers. Since major portions of the system are based on standard components, we can scale the system in every respect. This means we can offer you a comprehensive choice of solutions, from a straightforward visual display system for the power supply to a professional energy control system with special control functions and algorithms for the energy flows. But all functions share a common goal: They are designed to prevent unwanted interruptions of the power supply and thus eliminate possible danger to people and equipment. A further main task of the system is cost-optimized control of the energy used throughout the entire industrial complex. Our energy automation systems offer the following functional modules Protection and automation of the power supply Calculation and storage of power supply system parameters Monitoring and control of the entire power supply system (SCADA) Alarm management and logging functions Comprehensive analyses Load management including controlling of power generation Load shedding in the event of overload and crisis situations Automatic restarting of consumers (Load Restoration) Power quality monitoring Energy management 6
One system many advantages Concrete benefits for you Consistency The view of the overall system quickly shows you where the fault lies and how it can be most quickly rectified. With our energy automation system, you can manage and supervise all relevant information about your low- and medium-voltage installations in one system, on one monitor. You couldn t ask for a better overview. Central human-machine interface You can work conveniently from a central operator terminal. In an emergency, you can inform all relevant departments quickly, specifically and fully automatically by SMS or e-mail. In this way, you can detect an imminent fault in good time and intervene quickly in the right place to prevent a potential loss of the power supply. Short reaction times Faster reaction is possible in case of faults because all information about the entire network is available at one central point. And there s no need to cover large distances in order to isolate and switch over sections of the system. High supply reliability Reduce the risk of an interruption of the supply by selectively disconnecting less important sections of the plant. Built-in load-shedding functions assist you if any instabilities occur in the power supply, such as load unbalances or overloads. Optimum utilization of electrical energy Special load management functions guarantee that you have exactly the amount of energy available that is needed at any given time. Unnecessary energy consumption can be detected and avoided in the future by taking suitable action. High availability and reliability The use of specially tested components and proven standards not only guarantees high availability and reliability of the power supply, but also of the individual areas within your area of responsibility. We optimize the level of automation of your processes, since partial or complete automation of certain handling processes guarantees high availability and reliability in operation. This in turn impacts affects the overall availability of your facilities. Partnership with power We are represented in nearly every country of the world and on all continents. With this global network, we can help you implement a tailored energy automation system practically anywhere in the world. 7
