Additional functionality may be available or added at future dates. Logging In The JICS portal is located at http://jics.lyon.edu. The initial screen is shown in Figure 1. The Events Calendar is a calendar of general interest events. Every day with a tan background color has events listed. To see a detailed calendar, click the Events Calendar title. To log in, enter your student id number, which is found on your student id, in the User Name box. Then enter your PIN in the password field. If you don t remember what your PIN number is, please see Appendix A: Finding Your PIN. Figure 1: Initial JICS Page. Your JICS User Name is your id number (found on your ID card.) Your JICS Password is your PIN number.
Navigating The Site After logging in, you ll see the screen shown in Figure 2. All JICS pages have a similar layout. There is the header at the top of the page with the Lyon College logo. Figure 2: Student Home Page. Below this there is the Welcome back bar identifying who is logged in and providing links to Personal Info and to Logout Next are the navigation tabs, which allow you to go to specific areas of the site. Below this is the Bread Crumb trail, which allows you to go back to previously viewed pages. The Bread Crumb line usually starts with You are here: and is directly under the tabs. After the bread crumb trail is the content area, which is divided into two sections, the navigation area on the left, and the portlet display area on the right, which is full of portlets. In Figure 2, there are two portlet s displayed, the Announcements portlet and the Events Calendar portlet. Click on a portlet s title to open that portlet. Finally, below the content area is the footer (which is not visible in Figure 2.) Warning! Do not use the Back button in your browser! This will cause problems with data submission in the portal. Always use the breadcrumb trail to go back to previous pages!
Course Catalog To search the course catalog for classes to sign up for, click the Academics tab then click on the Academic Information link in the navigation area. Scroll down until you can see the Course Schedule portlet and click on the Basic Course Search. See the bottom right corner of Figure 3. Figure 3: Academic Information page. This brings up the course search page. Fill in the criteria you wish to use by selecting the year and term, division, etc and push the Submit button. I don t recommend using the advanced search, because you must manually clear all search criteria for each search. This can be a laborious chore as there are a LOT of options! Click the course title for detailed catalog information. Click the + to get room, meeting times, etc. Make a note of the course title and section number. For example the first class listed has a title of ACC 210 and a section number of 01. Figure 4: Search Results. If there is a red circle with a white bar in the Req column of the results, there is a prerequisite for the class that you have not met, and you can not register for the class.
Registering Online To register online, click the Academics tab then click on the Academic Information link in the navigation area. Scroll down until you can see the Course Schedule portlet and click on the Add/Drop Courses link in the portlet. See Figure 5. Type in the course code and section number exactly as you saw it when searching the catalog. Push the Search button and the class will go into a temporary list. When you are finished entering classes, click the Add/Drop Courses button to register for the classes Figure 5: Adding and dropping classes.

An alternative way to get to this web page is the link on the first JICS web page (http://jics.lyon.edu) in the Announcements portal titled Lost PIN Finder. See the screenshot below. You must remember your ID number or have your faculty/student ID card. For security reasons, this will not be provided on the web page.
