Board size is a compact 118 x 78 mm. Please have a look to the PIC18F67J60 datasheet for all CPU features descriptions. On-board Power Supply The power supply circuit on the DEVBOARD3 board is designed to accept a +5 to +10 VDC power source. Power should be applied to the connector at J3. Total current available from the regulator will be about 0.8 A. Be careful if LCD ( JP8 ) is used, the main power applied to J3 need to be +5VDC +- 10%. System Reset SW1 Included on the board at position RESET is a reset switch SW1. When pressed, the processor will reset. Clock Source The primary clock, position Y1 on the DEVBOARD3 is 25MHz +- 50ppm. ICSP (In-Circuit Serial Programming ) J5 A special port is included on the DEVBOARD3 board at J5. This port allows for the programming of the microprocessor while it remains on the prototype board. During the in-circuit programming process, the programmer toggles certain pins on the micro controller. RB6, RB7 and /MCLR are all DEVBOARD3 Version 1.0 March 2009 Page 2 of 7
connected to the programmer. If your custom circuit constructed on the DEVBOARD3 board uses any of these pins, they may interfere with the programming process ( see datasheet of the PIC micro ). You can wire it to any IO PIC ports if you need hardware handshaking. Typical In-Circuit serial programming connection ICSD (In-Circuit Serial Debugging) J4 A special port is included on the DEVBOARD3 board at J4. This port have same features that J5 - ICSP port but use RJ11 connector compatible with ICD2 and ICD3 from MICROCHIP. WARNING: On the V1.0 PCB board, the J4 connector is NOT usable. A regrettable error was on the schematic Sorry, it will repair for the next PCB bench. All functionalities are available with J5 ICSP connector. You may even use the ICD2 tool if you do a little connectors adapter. LCD port JP8 Another important feature of the DEVBOARD3 is the ability to direct connects a standard alphanumerical LCD display. The port F is routed to JP8, single in line 14 pins connector, in 4bits mode. JP8 - LCD 1 GND Ground 2 VCC Power +5V 3 Vo Vo contrast 4 RS RF1 Register Select signal 5 R/W RF2 Read/Write Select signal 6 /E RF3 Enable signal 7-10 D3:0 GND Data low lines not used 11-14 D7:4 RF7:4 Data high lines Be careful if you plug a LCD, you need to power the board with a +5VDC (+-10%) only. RS232 port J2 The DEVBOARD3 is capable to communicate with RS232 protocol. PIC processors have internal UART connected to RC6 and RC7. An RS232 / TTL converter ( like MAX232 ) provide full level shifting to do real RS232 voltage. The J2 IDC10 connector provide simple pin out to connect standard 9 pins SubD connector. Though it only uses 3 of the 10 pins it is packaged in a 2x5 pin configuration to fit standard 9 pin ribbon cable clip-on serial sockets and 10 pin female clip on serial headers that can both attach to a 10 wire ribbon cable. FLASH memory U3 The DEVBOARD3 have footprint to connect a serial FLASH memory. The footprint may receive any size up to 128Mbits ( like M25P01 to M25P128 from www.numonyx.com or competitor maker ) DEVBOARD3 Version 1.0 March 2009 Page 3 of 7
The FLASH memory footprint U3 share the same SPI bus of the SD card, but she has a dedicated Chips Select line FL_CS# connected on RD2 PIC port. Have a look to the datasheet, SPI bus can work at up 10Mbits/s @ 40MHz! SD card port SD1 The SD Card connector offer the ability to quickly and easily write to, read from and seamlessly integrate an SD card module into an embedded design. Secure Digital (SD) flash memory technologies are quickly becoming the preferred solution for portable, consumer and industrial electronic devices around the world for storing a large amount of information in a small, durable, portable form factor. The SD card connections are configured for a standard SPI mode connection, which is commonly used for interfacing with microcontrollers: SD1 SD card connector 1 SD_CS# RD1 SD card chip select line 2 SDI RC5 Serial Data - MOSI 3 GND 4 VCC +3.3V power 5 SCK RC3 Serial clock 6 GND 7 SDO Serial Data MISO 8 RSV Reserved 9 RSV Reserved 10 CD Card Detect switch 11 12 GND Common of switches 13 WP Write Protect switch 14 GND Cover protection The mosfet Q1 and the RC1 PIC port control the SD card power. A logical 1 will turn the SD card power off. A SD card activity LED is connected on the RC0 PIC port. Please look at chapter 19 of the MICROCHIP PIC18F67J60 datasheet. The Ethernet module meets all of the IEEE 802.3 specifications for 10-BaseT connectivity to a twisted-pair network. It incorporates a number of packet filtering schemes to limit incoming packets. It also provides an internal DMA module for fast data throughput and hardware assisted IP checksum calculations. Provisions are also made for two LED outputs to indicate link and network activity. The LED s are including inside the RJ45 J5 connector. Please look at chapter 18 of the MICROCHIP PIC18F67J60 datasheet.
