Microsoft Word Wizardry Shortcuts trl + a = Select all Use this when you want to change the font, line spacing, color, etc. of the entire document trl + z = Undo last Use this when you want to undo your last action (repeat to undo more actions) This also will get rid of helpful numbering or bulleting. This button will do the same thing, with a handy drop-down menu of past actions. trl + c = opy Highlight text or picture to be copied, then press ctrl + c trl + v = Paste Move the cursor to desired location, then press ctrl + v When pasting an object, cursor location does not matter F4 This repeats your last action. For example, if you re bolding the first word of every bullet, once you bold the first one, highlight the next and press F4. This is also helpful for formatting textboxes, adding multiples of the same object, or alternate line shading. trl + Shift + This copies the style (or format) of the text or object. You can then use trl + Shift + V to paste the style you can even go across documents. gain, this is also helpful for textboxes. Moving around a document trl + right/left arrow moves one word. trl + up/down arrow moves one paragraph. Home moves to the start of the line End moves to the end of the line Selecting text ouble-click selects a word. Triple-click selects a paragraph. trl + click selects a sentence. Or click where you want to start the selection. Then hold down the shift key while you click where you want to end the selection. Or hold down shift while using the up/down/left/right arrows Selecting Files If you want to select multiple files (for deleting, copying, moving, attaching to email), click the first one in the list. Then press shift and click the last one in the list. If you re in Windows Explorer, right click for deleting/copying/send to options. (hint: use view arrange by modified to put the files in order of oldest to newest to make back up easier) If the files you need are not listed together, you can hold down ctrl while clicking the desired files. These also work for selecting emails in Outlook to delete or move. You can adjust the size of columns/rows after it is inserted by clicking and dragging the lines. You can also use the down arrow next to this button to add or remove borders. Make your taskbar your own Press the down arrow at the end of your taskbar. lick add or remove buttons The first option gives you a menu of buttons you can add. hoosing customize gives you many, many options of task buttons you can add: simply drag the command to the location you want on the taskbar. You can also drag off & throw away buttons while in the customize menu. Some helpful buttons include: superscript/subscript; Equation Editor (this allows you to make fractions, square roots, matrices); symbol (this opens the symbol menu); insert row or insert column (if you make a lot of tables) Make a shortcut key for commonly used symbols Insert Symbol lick on the symbol you use, then click shortcut key Make up a good combination of keys (ctrl + shift + or alt + ) (example: I use alt + t to insert Δ, and ctrl + shift + p to insert π) It will tell you if that combination is already assigned, but you can certainly override it if you don t use that command. lick ssign Eliminating annoying things The insert drawing here box: o Tools Options General and uncheck the last box in the gray window that reads, utomatically create a drawing canvas when inserting utoshapes. Open this file to make a new worksheet, and use File Save s to save your new worksheet. Underlines The red squiggly underline means a mispelled word. Right-click to see corrections. The green squiggly underline means an grammatical error. Right-click to see corrections. The red dotted underline means a smart-tag. This is a stupid big brother option that is pointless to me ( This looks like a date. o you want me to add it the calendar? ). Printing multiple pages on one page This is helpful for printing out worksheets the students need to only read, not write on, and also for those long lists of students on field trips. fter choosing File Print, towards the bottom under Zoom, it has a drop down menu for Pages Per Sheet. Move the pointer to where you would like the shape, and click and drag until you have the size you want. Holding down shift while you do this will make it a perfect circle or square. Resizing: Move your cursor over one of the border dots. Moving a corner keeps the same proportions. Rotating: Most shapes have a green handle on them. Put your cursor on the dot, and click and drag to rotate your shape. Note: rotating a textbox does not rotate the text. Yellow diamond: hanges a certain property of the shape. Rotating text: Option one (if you want text vertical): Use this button in the text box menu. Option two (if you want text upside down or tilted): Type your text in a textbox in powerpoint. opy textbox. Instead of normal pasting, go to Edit Paste Special Picture Ok. Then on the picture menu, choose in front of text and it will provide a green handle to rotate. rawing menu: Group items: allows you to move, copy, rotate, or resize multiple objects as one object Use the drawing select arrow to select multiple shapes (either press ctrl as you click each object, or click and drag to form a border around the objects you want to group) In the raw menu, select group (note: you can also add this as a button) You can also ungroup to change just one object, and then use regroup to group them back. You can also select multiple objects and move them as one without grouping. Original Objects Rotated as group Rotated not grouped

Rotate or flip: Rotates the object ninety degrees, or flips the object horizontally or vertically. Original Flip horizontal Flip vertical Order: moves objects in front or behind other objects. Original Send star Bring rectangle back to front Fill color: No fill makes the shape transparent, which is different from white. No fill White utoshapes: Use for generic shapes such as circle, squares, triangles, banners, etc. Hint: To label objects, use textboxes with no fill and no line. Earth Earth Hint: re your objects/pictures moving when you edit your main text? ouble click the object, then layout advance unclick move object with text (another hint: choosing in front of text option sometimes fixes this problem, too) (another hint #2: before you start drawing, press return/enter until your documents ends past the place you will be drawing) Hint: To move objects a little bit left/right/up/down, use ctrl + arrow keys. Once you have a textbox formatted the way you would like it, click it, press ctrl + c and then ctrl + v repeatedly to make many copies that you can then move. Square Making Graphic Organizers Graphic Organizer Or use block arrows with textboxes over them OR lick the formatted box, then ctrl + shift + c, then click another box and ctrl + shift + v to cut and paste the formatting. allouts are fancy text boxes, and you can change where they are pointing trl + arrow keys moves things a little! this is 2 made by 3. Like this equation editor This is another textbox with bullets and no line/no fill. Or this (find them in autoshapes) FER You can always ctrl + z to undo any mistake! Brackets are useful, too, found in autoshapes! But remember, you don t have to use everything at once.
