Burning DVDs for use in the -channel DVD Synchronizer The first step in using the Dave Jones Synchronizer is to properly burn your DVDs. This is an important step as the Synchronizer utilizes code on the disk to work properly. our movie files need to be the same length of time, or at least close to it. Other than that, the actual setup of your individual videos is up to you, just keep in mind you need to have three separate movie exports. ou should also add a ten second slug (black space) to the end of each movie file. I ll get to why in a second. As for the actual burning, your discs need to be self-starting and self-looping with only one file per disc with exactly two chapter markers (more on that in a second). For the most part, you can follow the instructions laid out in the amazing Final Cut Flow Chart (availble now) to properly format your disk, which is laid out below. Burning a Self-Starting, Self-Looping Video DVD Informative, no? Now, the General Info: -MPEG-2 video encoding with Dolby Digital audio -4.7 GB capacity for single layer discs, 8.5 GB for dual-layer -This setup is perfect for installation work -SD video at 720x480i 29.97 Steps for Burning: helpful to place all of this media in a single folder on the scratch disc to keep everything together.. Find the Assets window/tab. There, click Import..., select all the media you wish to include on the disc and click Import. 4. Find and click on the Graphical tab. There you should see a blue box labeled Menu, as well as a green one labeled Track. First, select the Menu and press the delete key on the keyboard, we do not need or want a Menu change we need to make starts at step 7. For the Synchronizer we absolutely must add a second chapter marker, at the same part of the disc across all three you can simply select the video/audio pairs and drag them up into the Graphical window area, a new green box should automatically form with the 5. RIght or control + click on the movie you wish to play upon the disc s insertion into a DVD player and select First Play. With this set, when the disc is inserted into a DVD player it will immediately start playing this movie. 6. Select this movie in the Graphical window. The Inspector window will have Track in the heading. In this window you will see an option labeled End Jump with a drop down menu next to it. If you have only one movie you wish to play and loop continuously on this disc you should set the End Jump to Tracks and Stories -> the name of this movie, [Track], otherwise set it to the next movie you wish to play in sequence. Keep doing this for each movie arrow appear in the Graphical window. have just one), open the Track tab (different from the Track window)l you should see your movie laid out in a timeline similar to one in Final Cut Pro. In here, if you click anywhere just above the timeline you can set Chapter markers. These are locations that get jumped to when someone presses Fast Forward while watching your movie. Set one of these about thirty seconds before the end of that movie (DVD Studio Pro gets angry if you set a chapter marker any closer to the end of a movie than that). 8. Once you have your movie set up as you d like it you should save the disc formatting you ve done by going up to File, click ing on Save, and saving it to your folder on the scratch disk (Saving is slightly less important for self-looping, self-starting discs as they re so easy to set up). In the top row of buttons, if you click on Simulate it will simulate your disc with the formatting you ve done so you can navigate through and make sure everything is working properly. ou can press the Fast Forward button to jump around the different tracks in your loop and, if it s the last track in the loop, jump to the last thirty seconds so you can watch it through and make sure it loops properly (this is true also of when you test your disc later in a physical DVD proceed to burn your disc. Once it s done, be sure to test it in a DVD player before you send it out to the world. *To speed the burning process up for future discs, you can click on the Build button, which will perform all the pre-formatting that needs to be done to burn the disc and save it to your folder on the scratch disk. discs. The slug I suggested you add to the end of the movies helps accomodate this, as DVD Studio Pro will not let you add a chapter marker at the very end of the disc, so set Chapter 2 at the end of your movie just before the slug. Once that s done, all you need to do is burn the discs, then proceed to the Synchronizer.

With the Interface Connector Cables hooked up, the last step before connecting to your display is to connect the Sync out from the back of the David Jones box to the Black Burst of the DVD players. Note that there are two female BNC connectors in each of the DVD players Black Burst area. Both act as input or output and they loop signal through, so we will connect the from the David Jones box to one of the connectors in the top DVD player s Black Burst area, and then take another BNC cable and loop that through to the next DVD player by connecting one end to the other connector in the first s Black Burst box, then the other end to a BNC connector in the second DVD player s Black Burst box. Repeat once more from the sceond DVD player to the third. 2 0 NS College of Ceramics Owego, N USA www.djdesign.com DVDPLA-BN 524 0/ volts 50/60 Hz PROGRAM KE LOCK EXT CT PHES Note that in each Black Burst box there is a switch labeled. Now that the is hooked up we can start thinking about hooking up to the display. This is pretty standard, but it should be noted that these DVD players need to be manually switched between Component and Composite signals. So, if you are hooking up to video displays via RCA, BNC, or S-Video you should set the switch to Composite. If you are using three separate cables to hook up the Component connectors, then set the switch to that. When you are ready, insert your properly formatted DVD into each of the players. As mentioned before, you need to have three DVDs or the Synchronizer will not work. If your piece calls for only two displays insert a copy of one of your other DVDs into the third player anyways and simply do not 2 hook that player to any display. 0 NS College of Ceramics PROGRAM KE LOCK When the disks start to play the Synchronizer should start Owego, N USA www.djdesign.com DVDPLA-BN 524 0/ volts 50/60 Hz kicking into action.
